The LG G4 OLED is LG's flagship 4k TV for 2024. It replaces the LG G3 OLED and sits above the LG C4 OLED. Like its predecessor, it uses Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology for better brightness than typical WOLED panels. However, unlike the G3, this year's 83-inch model also includes MLA, although the super expensive 97-inch model doesn't.

Ads included in the app of a tv should be illegal
The government of a free society has no business telling an adult citizen what he can or can not offer for sale, barring the obvious exception of things that are unstable and highly dangerous.
You have the freedom to _not_ buy something. You don't need Big Brother to make it _illegal_ for you to buy that thing.
L. @@bricaaron3978
Agreed, but you can cancel ads out through your router. It isn't difficult and it works.
@@utkuozdemir3111 *"...you can cancel ads out through your router. It isn't difficult and it works."*
That is a helpful comment. Also, one doesn't have to connect his TV to the Web. I use an LG 55" 4K OLED as a gaming PC monitor.
It's the freedom thing again. I have the freedom to reject a product, or if possible to use it in a way that works for me. Getting the government involved increases restrictions and reduces options for the consumer.
@@bricaaron3978 what about illegal things?
God I love watching these videos about TV's I want and cannot afford!
We're glad you do 😂
You must not want it bad enough. If you did, you’d make it happen.
used market? open box deals? I got my 55" LG B9 used for €650, then sold it recently for €550 cause I bought an open box 55" LG C2 for €500. can't afford things (like me)? get creative!

Another great review. Well done RTINGS!
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed the review 😄
Hi Abby, possibly my next TV to buy this year.😊i will wait until Black Friday and the holiday season.😊
Thanks Abby/rtings. Looking forward to the mini LED reviews landing for the new sets, hopefully soon
Just bought the 77G4 and next to my S95B and X95K, there is a very clear upgrade in picture quality. Never was an LG fan, but this is in my opinion the best oled out there and will probably stay that way for some time. Important in my opinion is to set color always to original instead of automatic. Automatic doesn’t give you the full impact in color. And yes, brightness does matter a lot for HDR impact. If you buy a tv, buy this. This tv is a true technical pinnacle.
just recently bought an open box 55" C2 for €500. I am sure the G4 is fantastic, but even deals like mine aside, it's not the TV everyone should run out and buy.
Stay that way for some time? Ya.. until next year's model comes out. You guys always make ridiculous statements.

The S95B still hits over 1000nits peak brightness and has great QD color volume. Its what? 3 generations old now, obviously it gets better in 3 years.

Thanks for the kind words! 😄
Ordered one of these to replace my CX. Can't wait.
Just bought mine yesterday 😊
Great review as usual! Almost perfect set except for the outdated remote and the removal of the ATSC 3.0 tuner which is totally lame.
RTINGS needs to test brightness of mid-grey at all window sizes as well as fully white, and I suppose to be thorough you need to test peak white window sizes with a mid-gray background.
In every hands-on comparison the G4 is significantly brighter than any other OLED or QD-OLED in pictures with a high average brightness across the whole frame (e.g. daytime landscape), if you only measure peak white you don't know how much the display is dimming all the content around the highlights.
How's the image processing compared to the G3?
the black screen happened to my C4 as well, thought i broke the tv but just had to unplug from the wall and it was fine afterwards.
Hi! When you talk about the color volume/luminance vs. QD-OLEDs - to bridge the gap between numerical data and practice, what really should (IMO) be the focus is how much of the content that people usually watch will take advantage of the headroom that QD-OLED has.
My understanding is that nearly all content that we watch in daily life resides almost entirely within WOLEDs' capabilities, which renders the QD-OLEDs' advantage an academic curiosity, or perhaps something that Vivid mode users will enjoy.
I'm saying this as a tech enthusiast who binged TV reviews for months and got an LG G2 -equivalent OLED - only to spend most of my time watching anime on it. Every couple months I will put on an HDR video on the CZcams app and be reminded of the TV's real capabilities. I really am left wondering if I'd been better off saving the money and just buying an LCD TV due to the content I watch.
splendid review
Excellent review!
Thank you for watching! 😄
Very nice review dear Abby
Thanks, Abby and everyone at RTINGS for this video review. I read your website review of this LG G4 TV and was eagerly waiting for this video companion. I've been using my Sony 46W4100 since 2008 and it is still going strong. But I really want to upgrade to a 4K TV that is great for using my PS5 as well as 4K UHD Blu Ray films. This LG G4 seems like a great set to do justice to both physical media movies, games, as well as content off cable and streaming. The only question I have is, does anyone know the street date these G4 TVs will be released here in Canada? I have been looking on Best Buy Canada, The Brick, and on Visions Electronics, waiting for these TVs to be available. So far, no luck. Do you have any information of a street date of these LG G4s to start being available in retail stores? Thanks again for the great reviews. You're my first source of TV and electronic reviews.
I'm cool with the LG C3 I just bought..panel uniformity on my unit is damn near perfect
Glad to hear it! The C3 is an amazing TV, enjoy! 😄
Hats down for the patriarchs of display testing!
Splendid video as always. Considering everything you just said about g4 what percentage of price difference would justify getting same size g4 instead of g3?
P. S. Right now I have 1400 eur g3 but g4 is like 3000 eur atm. Would a price of let's say 2k on Black Friday be good deal to upgrade to g4?
Please do some high-scrutiny tests for panel issues, particularly things like DSE and the pink-green alternating discoloration, which I have had on THREE new 55" C2 panels. I suspect it is a defect of that panel's manufacturing process as it appears to possibly be a polarising or anti-glare layer issue, possibly due to uneven lamination during fabrication. This is speculation on my part but it seems plausible, as the fundamental colour reproduction of the pixels across the colour gamut is still ok.
It looks like the identical visual artifact I can reproduce on my Sony smartphone's OLED panel, if I hold it significantly off-axis to sunlight and at a diagonal relative to viewing. However the phone screen becomes fine again when viewed head-on. By contrast, the C2's panel however exhibits distinct horizontal banding across the full width, in the bottom half of the panel, regardless of being on-axis or off-axis.
The visual symptom is that the underlying pixel colour response is fine, but there's an overlay of discolored red/pink and green banding. Some people have it on corners of their panels, some people have it in the middle of panels (like my first two Poland-made panels), some people have it on the top or bottom of panels. My third unit has it horizontally on the bottom 40% of the vertical area. I sit in the 'perfect' viewing position and distance and it's still very obvious on greyscales, whites and flat colours. I had to return two units before I got one which was tolerable.
I bought it couple days ago after I sold my kidneys and liver, it was worth it .. I try to find any flaws but didn’t find anything. One of my best purchase !!!!!
Hope you enjoy it for years to come! 😄
I sold my spleen….😮
Just ordered a g4. Should I watch streaming app through the native tv apps or an Apple TV? Will I lose some of the a11 processing if I use Apple TV apps?
Also any recommendations for a different remote than the magic remote that comes with it?
Didn't they have the same problem last year switching out of game mode?
Thanks for the link ; but what do you mean it's not as colorfull as qd-oled ?
My C1 recently started doing the switch off thing you mentioned with changes of refresh rates - but mine just does it when connected with the Nvidia shield, I have to plug the power cable.. has done it 3/4 times now.. so annoying.
Can you purchase the stand for the 83” G4?
Great video! I can't seem to find this in the UK. Is it branded differently there? Does anyone know please or can they share a link 🙏🏽
Do you know if the Ethernet LAN port is finally 1Gbps or still 100Mbps as on previous models?
Unfortunately, this isn't data we have at the moment, but we hope to start testing this in a future methodology update!
Great job Abby!
Disappointing they removed ATSC 3.0 on the G4. Seems puzzling on a high end set.
I think it’s a bit of a niche feature for the average buyer. Even if us tv nerds care about it
Its high end, but not their rich people super high end. They mostly care about that.
I care about it, so this is very disappointing for me & as soon as I heard the news that they've decided to drop the new ATSC 3.0 for the old dinosaur ATSC 1.0 again made me feel a big sinking disappointing feeling and it has immediately made this expensive OLED that should have all bells and whistles on it by default & now not have them, makes this unfortunately a no goer for me just for that reason. I am in the market for a new TV this year and having an ATSC 3.0 tuner for the future is important to me as I keep my new TVs for many years before updating them. Not EVERYONE is just a gamer here. I watch TV from the inbuilt tuner, and it makes no good sense for the consumer that they decided to drop next gen TV (ATSC 3) whether many use it or not. Having that on a high-end expensive TV should qualify for that to just be there for the price one pays for this TV & it is a bonus for TV watchers now and into the future if it does. Looks like they have made the decision for me easier, it will be the Sony Bravia 9 which does have the ATSC 3.0 Next gen TV tuner and is still a top line looking TV even if it is mini-LED and not OLED. This was on my list, very high up but not now. I PC game anyway with a high-end monitor, gaming PC with a Nvidia 4090 GPU, with very low latency anyway, but regardless this news sucks for me since I'm in the market for a brand-new TV for my living room so this is a pity!
I think Samsung did the same thing.
Last I heard there are some major issues with it. Not from a technological standpoint but from a dcma and rights perspective.
Do you also check VRR flickering for TVs? I see no mention in the review
Not in the same way yet, sorry about that!
Hi,
Do we turn down color temperature to Warm 50 for any HDR PS5 gaming for accurate color? Or is it fine to just leave it as zero out of box for G4?
Why cite Rec 2020 colour performance if no such content exists...? 🤔
Glad they added oled to the phone but i think the screen size might be hard to pocket.
i wish your reviews included black crush without calibration
How does burn in on this compared to the A95L?
We are waiting for the comparison video of LG G4 and S90D❤️
👀
Every newer and better model OLED TV makes me want to buy one. But then I have to remind myself tech is only going to get better and better. Maybe after a few more years if my C2 shows any need for replacement.
I did the new WebOs update for my B3 and now I have to unplug it from the wall at least once a week due to it locking up or black screening. It's not just the G4.
That can be annoying
I'll stay on my cx for a while longer
Is the LAN port 100mbps or have they gone for gbe or even 2.5gbe?
Ads in the menu? That's a no-go.
USB 2.0 or 3.x? Lan with 1000Mbps?
2.0. 100 Mbps
The Princess of Pixels graces us once again.
We just got one and it has a very quirky issue with sound quality and output to a soundbar. You really have to crank it up and then it distorts. Oh, did I mention that is if there’s sound at all. That takes going into the menu, and then it recognizes that it should output signals. Not thrilled. Still trying some kind of workaround while I await LG’s response. 🤨
My next OLED...the great 83" G4 with MLA panel 😍👌 It's time to kick out my beloved and trusted 77" Sony AG9! 😎👊
Im still good with my c3 on gaming!
Is the mount also compatible with the 77" and larger G4?
The 77", 83", and 97" models all come with mounts rather than a stand!
How come you put doly vision as a positive for sony. We all know they can't or won't fix it at this point.
Does the 83 inch come with an stand? Or only wall mount?
83 inch comes with a wall mount. A separate stand is in the works to be released in the future.
I am in love with my C3 65 inches and it nearly blinds me with full brightness so more nits don't matter to me
Until you see a g4 in person and think, damn i would take that extra brightness finally
Is it worth selling my c2 65 inch and buy lg g4 77 inch/83inch on black friday? Or keep the c2 some few years more, when the technology is better. Or at the difference in picture Quality from c2 to g4 that HUGE? ☺️

You absolutely will notice the sample and hold blur. I wish you wouldn't downplay it so much. Does BFI pulse at both 60hz and 120hz on this model to address that?
The G4 offers 60 Hz BFI but not 120 Hz BFI. However, BFI (and cathode ray tube flicker, for that matter), causes me so much literally painful eye strain that I would prefer other solutions to BFI like either putting up with the sample and hold blur, or turning on frame interpolation which some people deride as the soap opera effect. The soap opera effect generally does not bother me unless it is badly done, but bothers a lot of other people. Low frame rate sources such as films annoy me with their inherent stutter, even when played in native playback environments such as movie theaters or displays that can natively display 24 FPS content.
I know that some people love BFI, but it is literally painful eyestrain for my eyes, so it is useless to me.
I also understand that motion interpolation also adds lag, so that can be bad for some games.
I guess that different people prefer different solutions for motion blur.
If you really need 120 Hz BFI, try one of the new Gen3 QD-OLED monitors like the Asus ROG Swift OLED PGUCDM. 120 Hz BFI is not an option for TV-sized QD-OLEDs. It is only for monitor-sized Gen3 QD-OLEDs.
Abbey how is it going with the big tv test ?
Missed one of the pro's also being its available in larger models other than 77inches like the 83inch. I'd say that's certainly a pro.
That's a fair point, but it's important to note that the larger size, the 97", is the only size that doesn't feature its MLA layer, so it's hard for us to properly tell you how it performs against competitors since we only tested the 65" model!
Most of us don't upgrade our TV every year, so a comparison between the G4 and older OLED models would be very helpful. I'm using an LG B7 and I'm just now considering an upgrade, but these videos don't help very much unfortunately.
That's what the website is for.. literally has a comparison option.
It does. But try comparing an LG C7 to the G4, does not work very well. A subjective review would be more useful.
@@isak6626 nobody is going to make that comparison because people weren't collecting that type of information in that generation. Considering how things have improved between the CX to the G4, it would be safe to say it would be a good upgrade.
How expensive would this TV be without all the ads?!?! That's crazy.

I wouldn't buy an LG, I'd buy a Sony. Their image processing is stellar, I suspect they bin/QC their panels more stringently, they have never dropped fully featured DTS audio support, and you get Sony customer support after the fact which I've found to be very good.

I really need to confirm a 77 LG G4 "stand" before my purchase. Rumors that LG WILL have a stand for 77-inch G4 very soon.
It is not just a rumor. The manual for the G4 lists model numbers for stands for the 77, 83, and 97 inch models. However, they are not yet available as of the time of this post.
HI! LG G4 is better than Sony´s A95K?
I am a user who mainly uses television to watch 4k blu ray movies with a Panasonic DP-UB820-K so I am looking for the best image quality for cinema, I also play some video games.
yes get the g4 55inch 😊
The g4 has more natural and accurate color to my eyes. It also has better looking white color, 4 hdmi 2.1 inputs and supports up to 144hz for pc gaming. It has just as detailed and clear image as a A95L and in some cases, even more so. The A95L has its strengths as well but the G4 has the stuff that matters most to me. What’s “better” is really going to come down to the person and what they want most out of a tv.
So it's better this or the S95d Samsung?

@@shanew7361 100% agreed with you there. I actually had a Sony A95L before I got this G4, and it wouldn’t pass Dolby Vision from my Panasonic UB9000 to the TV. I did some digging on Reddit and apparently I’m not the only one who’s encountered that around the time I got the TV (probably late March).

Then just get the C version.
What's the contrast ratio in a not dark room for lifted blacks compared to qd oleds? And which tv in day light veiwing has more 3d pop in sdr and hdr? Day light comparisons should include bravia 9 mini led and lcd especially for sdr comparison.
A lot of content is sdr and hdr is streamed low bit rate so having a good processor is important but so is the panel with contrast ratio being a factor. So overall brightness in a 100% window adds to contrast ratio and lifted blacks diminish them as well. Also a lot of content do not have pure black in their content so the benefit of pure blacks of oled is quite limited for regular content.
So in that case bright room viewing and measuring contrast in a bright room makes more sense as a comparison.

What is this --- Frame Hold Time at 60 FPS is 14.4 ms??? It doesn't actually hold the frame for the full duration, but has a small down time, like a very long square wave pulse?
I had never heard of this before. It would of course slightly reduce Eye-Tracking Motion Blur, but if this is already done I don't understand why they don't include the ability to adjust the pulse width, and even better, to include a mode which emulates the pulse envelope of a CRT. It's a simple matter to automatically adjust brightness as a function of pulse width.
This is the correct way to reduce the pulse width of a frame, whereas "Black Frame Insertion" is a goofy work-around.
If LG et al. are not going to offer OLED displays which approach the motion quality of CRT, I wish a new company would purchase OLED panels and design its own displays with its own custom driver circuitry so that we could once again have the same clarity of motion we had 80 years ago.
What about motion reduction technology though? The C1 has the legendary OLED Motion Pro setting, does the C4 has something similar?
