The LG C4 OLED is the 2024 iteration in LG's popular C Series lineup and replaces last year's LG C3 OLED. It sits above the LG B4 OLED and below the LG G4 OLED. It uses LG's new α9 AI Processor Gen7, designed to provide better overall image processing than its predecessors.

A few of you have rightly pointed out that the 42” and 48” models don’t have the same brightness levels as the bigger sized models. We’ve checked with our testers and although the smaller C4 models dim less than previous years' models, you’re still correct! We apologize for that and we’ll update our review on the website accordingly!

4:08 You guys should compare the C4 with the C3, year over year improvements in the same model is the metric of progress.
Comparing the C4 with my old C1, you get 50% better full screen brightness and 27% better peak brightness. Not only that, but in general the C4 outperforms the high end model G2 from just two years ago.

I bought myself a C4 42 inch partly because of the RTings reviews of the earlier models of the series (up to C3) and partly because I have had 10 wonderful years with my previous 32 inch LG LB6500 TV (which I am keeping) and thus I wanted to stick with the brand. Suffice to say I love my new TV. I could not ask for a better picture and the feature set is precisely what I was hoping for - basically a much more advanced and adept operating system than the one from 10 years ago on my LB6500. I just love the contrast with the deep blacks - night time scenes and horror movies are far better on this TV.
The colour rendition is also something that really stands out. I watch a lot of classic motorsport and the subtlety in paint colours on the cars is amazing. A car that I used to think was pure black is actually more of a mica black with subtle flecks of gold through it - but I could only discern this on the new TV. If anything, I think the colour reproduction blows me away even more than the deep blacks do.
The new TV upscaling is superb - even significantly better than that of my Zappiti 4K Pro - something I really was not expecting. Another thing I was not expecting is how much better the motion interpolation is on this new model versus my old TV. I can find settings that produce no artefacts at all yet get rid of that horrible low frame rate feeling on 24p content.
The only thing I do not like about the TV is the fact that unlike my old TV where you could delay either the audio or video (effectively being able to "advance" the audio), you can only delay the audio with this model. And with my TV headphones, there is around an additional 30 ms delay versus the inbuilt speakers (the headphones are Sennheiser RS195). Luckily I could resolve this since my Nvidia Shield allows me to advance the audio in increments of 10 ms (so it is advanced to 30 ms audio advance) and with my Zappiti media player, since I have to prepare every file that goes onto it anyway, I simply advance the audio in the files by 30 ms as well. So I have perfect lip sync for both of my sources but I would rather have the features my old TV had. I do not know why LG have decided to only allow users to delay the audio relative to the video versus advancing it and I think this is an oversight by LG that needs fixing on future models. Not everyone can "fix" the audio relative to video like I can on my workstation.
All that said, I am really happy with my purchase with those caveats.
EDIT: I should add that I bought two of these 42 inch TVs for different rooms and neither of them show any tinting, green tint or anything at all regardless of viewing angles. I specifically went to check mine when I read this here but they are perfect even up to 170 degrees off axis (I obviously see nothing at 180 degrees off axis!!). Perhaps this issue only effects the larger panels.

I have to pull you up regarding your comment on the fact that all panel sizes perform the same.
This was not the case with the C3 where the 42 and 48 panels suffered from low brightness and as i
found out the hard way, they are prone to banding and panel failure.
I have just rejected my 48" C3 due to panel failure, the left of the screen was going darker than the right
the store said this was not unknown with the lower spec panels.
So until i see reviews of a 48" C4 i am saving up for a Sony.

Basically Its a C3 with 144Hz panel. I am looking to upgrade my old C7 this year, but I think I'll pony up the extra cash and go for the G4, given I tend to use them for 5+ years and 20K+ hours. Hopefully the G4 would be less susceptible to colour degradation of OLED pixels (permanent burn in) after 10K+ hours of use. On my C7, around 12K hours I started noticing the pixel colour degradation (on parts of the screen in magenta and yellow) and now at 23K+ hours, the degradation is easily noticeable in magenta and yellows. Let me decide about that and don't ruin my viewing experience. I won't go with LG unless they fix their game mode bull$it. And no, I don't wanna use some 3rd party software to bypass this.

    • @bricaaron3978
      @bricaaron3978 Před měsícem

@@cajampa Yes, actually disabling it is better. But you couldn't be more wrong about '10' being very dark. In the range of low ambient light to literally pitch black it is _more_ than bright enough, I assure you. I have been assuming that since 2017, LG's OLEDs have become even brighter --- not that I need more brightness per se, but every bit helps when you want to use BFI or LCD glasses for stereoscopy.
I have a "High FoV Gaming" setup in which my standard view distance is 18". With the 55" OLED this gives me a horizontal Display FoV of 106° --- higher than most VR displays. When the In-Game FoV is increased to match the Display FoV you get a perfectly realistic image, completely free of distortion.
The increase in immersion from increasing Display FoV is indescribable. I believe that most people would sooner go back to a lower resolution or framerate than go back to a lower Display FoV, simply because the immersion of the experience is enhanced so much. Going back is like going from being _in_ the world to seeing the world through a toilet paper tube.

Pink and green tints are common defects with second generation WOLED panels used in many OLED TVs including the G2, C3, C4, and others. Color tinting is a panel lottery issue with some TVs having an unacceptable level of tinting and others having an acceptably small amount. If you want less tinting, get a TV with either a third generation WOLED which has MLA technology which greatly mitigates the tint, or a QD-OLED TV. LG G3 and LG G4 have third generation WOLED panels with MLA.

RTINGS does not test European market only TVs such as the TCL C845K. TCL sells different lineups in Europe and North America.
Anyways, I would consider the G4 over the G3 since the G4 fixes or mitigates several bugs that are present in the G3 such as a bad game mode, near black chrominance overshoot, and black crush.
From what I gathered from a FlatpanelsHD review, the TCL C845 comes with an outdated main SoC and Google TV 11. Android 11 went end of life on February 2024. I am not sure whether or not an update for your TV to a newer and supported version of Google TV is available, so you might be stuck with an end of life OS with a TCL C845.
Since LG still updates WebOS for its older TVs, out of those two choices, the G3 wins. However, I really recommend going for the G4 instead if that is possible.

The G3 also has better color volume for brighter colors, and the image barely degrades from an angle and doesn't have a noticeable green tint as the C4 does. However, the C4 supports 144Hz, so it's better for those looking to get the most out of their powerful gaming PCs. The TV has a bug that causes the occasional black screen when changing resolutions and refresh rates frequently in a short period. The only fix for this is to unplug and re-plug the TV, but this is unlikely to happen with real-world usage.

Any reason for that ?especially considering they are the only brand who had severe screen burn issues with their past models TVs in your test and your test also shown us that Sony has the highest risk of screen burn than Samsung and LG regardless of what panel they use QD OLED or WOLED. your test on S95C and G3 also proves that WOLEDs with MLA is has higher risk of screen burn than the 2nd gen QD OLED. For example If you look at Samsung and LG within the same period of longevity let’s just say 6 months into the test you can see the screen burn on LG is more pronounced. I’m still suspicious of why Sony 2023 models weren’t added to this test.
