Otto pimping out his daughter to the king was crazy
Quickest way to stop Daemon from inheriting the throne.
Saw that coming miles away lol
REAL CRAZY! 😂😂😂
were they supposed to have full on banged that night, and we just didn't see it?
So I was right
A little detail I like that wasn't mentioned, the way Viserys is holding Blackfyre while confronting Daemon, in a more regal, reverse grip, like his hand is resting on the sword, but when Daemon steps forward and the guards block his path, Viserys' grip on the sword has changed to how one would normally wield a sword, subtly showing how angry he is, and that he is willing to use his sword against Daemon should he have to.
so?
long comment with no usefull information
@sewjee that’s why you take calculus in school kids
i like how AEGON the conqueror was motivated by saving the world from the white walkers and darkness, while Jon Snow AKA AEGON Targaryen was motivated by the same.
I most certainly saw that. King was ready for whatever from his brother.
One Eaaster egg you have missed: The tournament arena is vulva shaped, which connects these intercut battles in the arena, and in childbirth even more.
omg you're right!!! that's cool
Oh wow
I thought that too lmao
Pusseeeeeeey!!!
A parallel you didn’t mention was the “promise me… promise me” lines said by the king when he was speaking about the song of ice and fire prophecy. Brings back memories of the tower of joy scene when Jon was born. Not that we want to re-open the debate that Jon was the prince who was promised but …. 😂
I still assume that Jon is/was just that. If not for him uniting people to face the white walkers, westeros would have been doomed.
@@Sulejmani123 poor writing saved westeros. They killed his whole story line unfortunately, I wish it would've gone as you mentioned with Jon playing a bigger role in the final fight against the night king. I personally think they should've lost the fight at winterfell
Wait but isn’t Jon Snow getting a sequel series? Maybe he will unite everyone including the free folk beyond the wall. Let’s have a smidge of hope 🥹🥲
Damn, you beat me to it
also Viserys saying "did you say it, heir for a day, did you say it", like Sansa confronting Petyr Baelish
it's beautiful, how the story about danger from North was delivered from one king to another - last Targaryen king slayed by Jamie couldnt tell him that prophecy and that's why Robert, Cercei and others didnt knew that story :)
I feel like the prophecy is going to be lost forever by the end of the Dance of the Dragons itself, it won't be passed on till the Mad King
I'd like to assume the Mad King would've told his heir, Rhaegar. Which would explain the change in the prince. Wanting to learn to fight, becoming obsessed with having another child. Also, there must always be a Targeryarn on the throne echos the Starks "there must always be a Stark at Winterfell". I wonder if there's a correlation: fire could be a Targeryarn and ice could be a Stark. It would take the 2 families to protect Westeros from this Dark Winter. Wonder is GRRM will have that answer for us
I liked viserys playing with the candle, kinda reminding the audience true targaryeans are essentially fireproof....fire does not kill the dragon 🐉🐉🐉
Yeah definitely reminding the viewers before doing something badass with it.
Something I noticed that you didn't mention, was that during the fight between Daemon and Ser Criston, it was the Dornishman this time that took advantage of a cocky foe while being knocked down and ended up besting him, in sharp contrast to Oberyn and the mountain in Game of Thrones. Great video, i look forward to the rest of the series!
I started watching this channel during the original GOT. That was a ride. You are just as good if not better. I’m going to look forward to these every week!
Same & same! :) it's how I found this channel!
I don't typically watch episodes back unless I'm watching the entire series again but episode 1 was just great I've gone back to watch it yet again!
Yeah same im rewatching it for the third time now
it is quite good, even among _game of throne_ episodes
Same
While the last season of GoT left a bad taste in my mouth, it felt good to be back in Westeros. This was a great first episode setting the stage for another epic journey that can hopefully stick to the landing this time.
I recently rewatched the entire series and the final season doesn't feel as weird when binging. I think anticipation and time hurt the release of the final season, it could never live up to the hype but it's decent on a rewatch. Final episode still feels weird but specifically just the epilogue aspect after khaleesi
all they got to do is finish strong
Exactly!
I agree hearing that theme again sent me back and I immediately immersed myself in Westeros.
@@JoshuaStDenis I rewatched the series on a binge and still abhorred the final season. Still left many plotlines unused, reuined several characters and had many stupid scenes. The Battle of Winterfell was atrocious.
Daemon called his brother the king weak to his face I’m gonna love that guy😂
I been waiting for this since I finished the episode

The confirmation of Aegon’s motivation(s) for conquering the Seven Kingdoms just retroactively makes the ending of GOT even worse🤣 Didn’t think that was possible. A Targaryen on the Iron Throne to unite the realm against the northern threat? Damn, would have been nice to see that. Kinda sounds like that was supposed to be Jon Snow’s whole arc lmao
Yep, it was.
It bought back the anger 😂😫😤 It was like a slap on the face
Sounds like it needed to be D
The High Valyrian commands:
• Presumably the form is dohaerās, with emphasis on the last syllable (yes the same verb as in valar dohaeris, but the imperative form), and (again presumably) the sense here is "be servile!" i.e. docile, as we might tell an animal "down!"
• Similarly, rȳbās "listen" can also mean "obey!"
• umbās means "stay!"
It's not "flawed thinking". It's flawed writing from that atrocious last season of GoT where the writers were freestyling about what they thought would happen. SMDH. This is why this series will flourish. Because it has all been written by George RR himself.
I was searching for this comment, because this is important. I'm pretty sure a Targaryen will sit on the throne when war with white walkers takes place
@@makkalakumar There will be no war with white walkers in this series... By the time we reach the war of 5 kings, the Long Night and the Battle for Dawn was the last time men fought white walkers.
@@monikerkinakin6943 there is a fire and ice prequal (official) backstory on the long night and white walkers and the wall. i do not know why they would have an official video of this leading up to this series if they were not going to include this.
It's not a Manderly Sigil, there's is a MerKing. The Eagle sigil belongs to House Mallister. There's a Mallister in GoT who belittled Jon at the Wall.
Maybe Aegon’s prophecy is inscribed in High Valyrian on the blade of the dagger. Viserys griped it when telling Rhaenyra the prophecy & we’ve seen the blade itself now has a different design on it.
Maybe part of the secret is.
"Promise me, promise me" Viserys to Rhaenyra also Lyanna to Ned, also Viserys saying "did you say it, heir for a day, did you say it", like Sansa confronting Petyr Baelish
Congrats on the wedding Erik!!!🎉 Glad you have you back talking about the GOT universe.
One particular shot that showed a street view of syrax flying overhead looks just like a shot of drogon flying overhead before he starts torching the city
Im glad we got the opening seeing the Great Hall in Harrenhal.
4:05 cool detail with the older dragon keeper holding back the younger more inexperienced one.
23:33 What if the burden of this knowledge along with the paranoia led the Mad King to lose it? Would that explain why he made so much wildfire while he was king while also being obsessed with fire in general? He knew if the world did end that they would need all the help they could get since there were no more dragons.
4:05 the older dragon keeper holding the younger back is not a "detail" lol its just there.
"Promise me, promise me" Viserys to Rhaenyra also Lyanna to Ned, also Viserys saying "did you say it, heir for a day, did you say it", like Sansa confronting Petyr Baelish
i like how AEGON the conqueror was motivated by saving the world from the white walkers and darkness, while Jon Snow AKA AEGON Targaryen was motivated by the same.
I love the first episode can’t wait for the rest of the season
Wow you have no taste and will watch anything 💀 this acting was CW
The flaws thinking in the prophecies probably have more to do with rushed last season writing. If I had to guess George meant to follow all prophecies to a T
yea even if he made that dany or jon isn't on the throne yet, it would probably be young grifff so a targaryen will fit that part of the prophecy
@@blaubeer8039 I’m extremely under qualified to be discussing GOT that’s all interesting to know though
@@ikaro555 We know from GOT behind the scenes content that it was not GRRM's plan to have Arya kill the Night King, it was a completely improvised idea by D&D.
I'm in love with this series already!! Can't wait for Sunday!
You can stay on a horse without a saddle it makes sense you could ride a dragon without one as well, although the saddle would provide extra stability. The only real problem would be if the dragon twisted or flipped in the air. Thigh strength is not going to help you much there.
Heck, even if the dragon took a quick descent, you'd just fall off as it would be going faster than you as you're not actually attached to it. Riding a horse is rather linear.
@@ddpwe5269 True true. It would depend on how wild the maneuvers were. It is possible to ride one saddleless, but it would not be the optimal recommendation.
@@ddpwe5269 true think about the dive dany takes from the sun to destroy the iron fleet in last episode. Shed def fly off. but hey
so glad you guys are making breakdowns of this series
Been waiting for this break down, the first episode was so good. I'm gonna rewatch it before the second is dropped
Thank goodness! I've been refreshing my feed all day waiting for this. Thanks!
I cannot wait for the rest of this season it’s gonna be so good
This comment is going to age badly
@@Karlach_ oh STFU, you whiney little baby.
@@Karlach_ be careful cause your comment might just be the one to age badly
In the French version dark sister is translated to « noire soeur », Which phonetically is said the same way as « noirceur » that means darkness! Found that kinda cool
Very strong start from HBO here. Very excited to see where things go
It's great to be excited about the GoT world again! I haven't hummed the theme song in a few years, but now it feels good to do again!
I’ve been waiting for this breakdown all day
Finally, the review I’ve been waiting for
So happy you did this video! Also love house of R too!
I never watched GOT, but I'm making an effort with this series. I'm glad I get a glimpse into both the GOT origins as well as yours. Thank you for the lesson!
I don’t think you have to watch GOT to understand the series considering it’s a prequel.
You're smart not to. Dumb and Dumber ruined the end of that series unfortunately.
Great to see Voss talking Thrones again.
Regarding Aegons vision of the long night to come, the more important detail he got correct was that a Targaryen would have to unite the realms of men to defeat the threat which exactly what happened when Jon Snow (Aegon Targaryen) united the North along with Danerys army to defeat the Night king.
Great first episode can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has in store :)
Out of all the HotD videos, I’ve been waiting for this one.
THE BREAKDOWN IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
Woo hoo get to enjoy this journey with Erick V! I was late to the game of thrones the first time around. Watched it all in a week after my partner tole me to watch it. Been checking every day for you to post!
I could not wait for this episode! I am excited to completely dissect this series.
I wonder if they made the tournament stadium look like an oval to reflect Aemmas womb and how the joust divider represented the C-section incision.
16:20 The sigil of House Manderly is a merman with a trident. That sigil is from House Mallister of Seagard, a vassal of House Tully in the Riverlands.
GoodJob on the Video it helped to understand alot
Been waiting for this!
Congrats on your wedding!! So glad you’re back!
Great episode 🔥🩸🐉
Been waiting on your video on house of dragons.
Literally been waiting the last 48 hrs for this video
Early life
Ser Criston was born to a steward of Lord Dondarrion at Blackhaven, in the Dornish Marches.[4]
In 104 AC, Criston won a melee at the tourney at Maidenpool to celebrate the ascension of King Viserys I Targaryen to the Iron Throne, drawing the attention of the royal court by knocking Dark Sister from the hands of Prince Daemon Targaryen with his morningstar. He gave the victor's laurel to the seven-year-old Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, whose favor he wore while unhorsing Daemon in the joust.
Thank you for deepening your social anxieties with each video, much appreciated! 😘
Was the dragon dreams line sang to the beat of "maybe it's Maybelline"
That's hilarious 😂😂😂
I believe our Prince Daemon said, "the Heir for a day and Prince for all time"
I think he had the kid kill .
@@elpedry2925 😆 🤣
it's been so long since i rewatched a GOT episode multiple times but this one was it
Battle of bastards multiple times
Love the zoomed in blurs 😍😏
That episode was emotionally all over the place........and I was all for it 💯💯💯💯💯
Oh, sweet summer child Eric. Glad to have you back doing GoT HotD.
Daemon’s seeming victory also parallels the birth room’s impression of success, both ultimately brought down in a blindsided fashion.
The pilot was fantastic! Also this video takes me back to finding this channel when GoT was airing. It will be so fun to do this again every week :)
Awesome video! Thank you!
Great review brother.
19:30 "Was the whole game board carved by poor Viserys and his sad, lonely train set?" im dying lmao
My guess for the throne change.
As time passed and more kings were cutting themselves, they decided to break the tradition of being "uncomfortable" rulers (because they thought highly of their "right" to rule), so they gradually filed/sanded down the edges and removed the more impeding swords surrounding the throne and that's how you get to the throne Robert sits in.
I imagine The Mad King especially would have ordered people to fix the sharp edges, seeing as he was always getting cut up.
Assumed it was Robert Baratheon who had those extra swords removed. He did have the Dragon's skull moved to the basement of the Red Keep. He wanted no reminder of the Targeryarns.
No 🧢 i feel like the day can end now dat i am watching this breakdown lol good job bro
You missed a few. For example, the rising shot of the tower interior, that's where The Mountain died. The Kings Chamber window shot seems like a call back to the iconic Tommen or Cersei shots in GoT. @6:11 Have a sneaking suspicion that the market location with the statue was or will be important.
Daemon watching from the shadows is similar to them looking at him at the pleasure house and probably for the same reasons.
Both equally dirty. It's a nice juxtaposition for his character.
Yes glad you’re breaking it down
Congratulations eric on your wedding!!!❤️❤️❤️
this is the video I was expecting
Otto gives me Littlefinger vibes without the charming qualities
Let's hope he goes the way of Littlefinger, shall we? LOL
I think he’s more similar to Tywin
I get the impression he's not as clever.
Criston Cole is from the Dornish Marches in the Stormlands, and he is of Dornish decent. He isn't from Dorne itself, but he's still kinda Dornish if that makes sense...
This episode left me dying for more
i like how AEGON the conqueror was motivated by saving the world from the white walkers and darkness, while Jon Snow AKA AEGON Targaryen was motivated by the same.
Damn shame that they didn't make Jon kill the NK and make him King
@@wrigleyishome4764 “i dont want it”

Dragon fire?? :o
Was waiting for you! Love from India🇮🇳🇮🇳
Thanks for validating me with saying Caraxas does have an unaualy long neck, hence his nickname the blood worm. I knew I wasn't tripping when watching this with my friends!
18:23, this sounds so good
The jousting/birth scenes were, imo, AMAZING! Classic GoT tension right there!
The cycle continues! So glad to have the GOT world back in your hands Mr. Voss!
Pretty sure the banner that you said was the Manderly eagle is actually the banner for House Mallister.
Just so happy to see the world of GoT back 👏👏🐲👏👏
Really great start
House Dondarrion is in the Stormlands. The Dornish marches are the mountainous boarders between the Stormlands and Dorne.
This first episode was really good. I can't wait to see what's in store
6:06-6:09 That’s an interesting detail.
17:51 A similar incident occurs during Oberyn Martell’s fight with the Mountain.
23:16 That’s one way to look at it.
I’m so happy you are covering House of Dragon! It’s only right 😁
congrats on the wedding Eric!!!!!
ahhhh hell here we go!
Otto giving me Littlefinger/Tywin in one
Exactly
Yoke is a livestock term or beast of burden term. Not egg yoke. Used on oxen mainly. But also used as a controlling metaphor.
I will say, you did miss that the Targaryen sigil in the opening was gold and not the traditional red, suggesting it’s the symbol of Aegon II
Congratulations, Erik!
When he laid our the dream/prophecy the 1st thought I had was that THIS explains Rheaghars obsession & willingness to set aside his wife for Lyanna Stark & allow thousands to die in a rebellion. All in order to bring about the 3rd "head of the dragon" (aka Jon) who eventually stood beside his sister in order to save the world from the White Walkers. Yes, Arya was the one who dealt the killing blow but without Jon & Dany, no one was getting close to the NK to kill him.
Thank you 😊
Reaching for content on a lot of these.
very cool that sirax is the yellow dragon. i see it as a reference to the yellow ninja cyrax from mortal kombat.
16:20 isn't that the eagle of the Mallister's of Seaguard?
The Manderley symbol is a merman.
love this
Congrats Erik!
