Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? What did you think of this album? Love it? Hate it? Why? What should I review next, eh? - Hudba
Why would anyone break up with Bjork
@@visiblethrowaway I think you should look up the definition of jealousy. Who would want to sound like a dying cat covered in hot piss?
Rocky Raccoon Why the fuck are you so fucking rude?
sounds more like if she had cheated on you or smth
StyloPen it’s not jealousy some people just don’t like bjork.
Joshua Jackson yes, some people dont like her, but it sounds like he has a rageful hate towards her.
Well someone may get jealous of you and mail bombs to her house
BIG aplologies for misgendering Antony in this review. I'll see it doesn't happen again. Future apologies for any instances of this with other artists, too.
Omri Attal Antony is transgender and has stated in the past that she prefers feminine pronouns (she/her). Thanks for correcting yourself, Anthony!
***** I was just explaining the situation to someone who asked. It was an easy mistake and it was easily fixed. You seem very passionate about this issue. Is there something going on in you life that you need to work out, friend?
***** Makes sense. But Antony has stated that she prefers female pronouns, Anthony didn't use them in the video, then he correct himself in this comment. I didn't want to start a whole argument about it. Sure, people will not want to call other people by their preferred gender pronouns, and that's just kinda moronic but I understand. Anything else you wanna talk about? :D
***** You are such a fucking idiot.
***** I know how you feel. How dare someone try to have an identity that makes them feel the most comfortable and is who they want to be as a person. Idiots.
It's so heartbreaking. If you listen to Vespertine, you experience her falling in love. Afterwards if you listen to Vulnicura... it's heartbreaking.
I met her at an bakery near my house once. It was a brief conversation but she seemed really down-to-earth.
***** We talked about scones. She has good tastes in scones. I always get raspberry or cream, and she says cream is her favourite.
tekkmineharmony Bjorkissodeep
Wow, I'll never see scones the same way. Nice!
i met her once too in a club in london, she was really down to earth and chilled and was clearly a great person to have a night out with with her friends haha! i think the key is not being too obsessed or star struck with her, she has a reputation for being kind of wary of fans but that's probably cos of her bad experiences in the 90s... she was super sweet. just need to treat her like a human being and not a celebrity and she is very funny and kind. i always expected meeting bjork to make me have a melt down cos i've loved her music for so many years but when i finally met her it felt so normal and on the level :) #mythoughts
tekkmineharmony Now she just has to make an album from the point of view of different pastries, titled Bakenicura or Bakeophilia
Bjork ALWAYS gets a 10/10 in my book.
then u are stupid
Say it to volta
Yep.I agree, even to Volta. Yes, there are people in the Internet that actually loves that album, and I'm one of those people.
@@mashthempotatoesplease5401 yup. I'm one of them
I’ve listened to 3 albums from here (Vulnicura, Utopia & Vespertine) and yea they are all 10’s
The hair is coming along quite nicely.
ARTV get tf outta here pasty boy
@@everyvillainislemons7583 damn you took a while
@@everyvillainislemons7583 Well said.
No
As far as the abrupt ending of Quicksand (and thus the ending of the album), I think it's perfect. It leaves the listener jarred and dissatisfied, BUT THAT IS THE POINT. It's a metaphor for the pain she felt during the break-up. The listener is smacked in the face by... silence. And they're like, "Wait, what? Where did you go Bjork? It can't end here, I need closure! DON'T LEAVE ME BJORK" Do you see the parallel? The point is, break-ups and emotional pain never end in perfect closure; it's a complex, evolving process. It's wonderful.
Bjork review ouuuuuuuuut! Thank you for watching, and have a nice day.
I do not dislike this review is cool! Danke sehr
Carpenter's Lost Themes next?
How about a review of Periphery's Alpha/Omega?
may you review slow motion by jarren benton next
I liked the album overall but there weren't also many outstanding songs D:
I simply do Notget bored of Björk
🙏
Vulnicura as a whole, blew me away. She didn't go into new sonic territories; she utilized what she learned on her previous albums. There are elements of her entire discography in here, but it doesn't feel like she's repeating herself. And the narrative makes it her most cohesive and emotionally powerful work as a whole. It may just be my favorite of hers, period. It's a solid 9/10 right now. Time will tell if it holds up, I think it will. Ten years from now, I may look back on this and give it a 10/10 or an 8/10. It's hard to tell.
It doesn't hold up.
thecannibal it does
6 years have gone by, what do you think? I just saw deep cuts' Oliver give this the second best album of the entire decade.
6 years later and it still holds up period.
It sounds even better :) 10/10 easily
Melon with hair is so cursed
What is melon with hair?
Homogenic/Vespertine for next year's Classics Week?
Bjork's best album was Vespertine(2001).
Homogenic (1997). Hated Medulla and stopped caring.
AlexCopyPaste homogenic is her most overrated album. it becomes unfocused in the final half until pluto. imo vespertine is her best due to the cohesiveness and the intricacy.
Lexx Andera Medúlla is hardly accessible
I love Medúlla. It’s my favorite Bjork record.
I like biophilia best, but y'all can have your opinions
*Her voice is so damn versatile. I dug this album a lot, can't wait to hear the rest of her features on Jenny Death.*
yikes
@@dannydark0 shit could get
IDK about versatile. I heard only one thing. Sounded like someone fucking a cat with turpentine.
Rocky Raccoon Now you are straight up acting like a fucking incel, fucking moron
Oh boy
100k thank you!!!
Came here from Rob Scallon. Thoughtful review, and I'm with you on vespertine being my favorite album. Biophilia was a challenging listen at first, but I found it to be a grower. Less for car journeys, for example, but more for a coffee and a think. Vespertine was a combination of a great album and a particular time. It is that combination that means it will stick with me as a favourite. Subbed in anticipation of more thought provoking views!
Lol 100k views is now average for him
I love how whenever you're describing something about the record I can pinpoint exactly which song(s) you're talking about, you're so good at articulating your thoughts into words when it comes to music, ur the best
I'm not a Björk fan and I'm not familiar with her work at all. To be honest, the only album of hers I had listened before (Homogenic) did not make a huge impression on me. But I gave Vulnicura a listen and I don't regret it at all. Very emotional collection of songs. Björk's voice sounds gorgeous and the production is top notch.
You really ought to give Vespertine a listen
Eddie
From what I understand it's one of her best, so I think I'll definitely give it a listen.
Vespertine is my favourite album of hers. I didn't like Homogenic either and was highly disappointed by Biophilia. I loooooove Vulnicura tho!
Same. Vulnicura made me a fan
Warmelon I didn't like her at all before vespertine but after hearing that album I really started to understand her music and i can't wait to hear her new album !
Better than 'Biophillia' and 'Volta'. Really enjoying this album.
Rap Goth same.
But no better than Medúlla in my opinion.
@@theneedledrop you still put it 7th of your favourite Björk album tho
"Stonemilker" is probably the best prologue to set up an album's major theme that has even been conceived.
"Quicksand" encapsulates all the themes as well, but it does seem to end abruptly. I suppose since the final track is about what can be thought as destruction/loss is really part of a grander cycle of renewal "Locate her black lake / The steam from this pit / Will form a cloud / For her to live on." It's suitable that the final transformation is a direct segue into whatever project Björk creates next.
No comments on Notget?
As for you saying that the album isn't catchy, it certainly isn't but I'd argue that if it were so it would take away the severity in emotion in many of the songs (Black Lake and Family, especially). I think Vulnicura does bring a new direction in Bjork's music as it's so much darker; you could argue that it is seen in Medulla at parts (and even Vertebrae by Vertebrae from Volta), but lyrically and thematically a lot of Vulnicura has a heavy, brooding intensity from Bjork being open about such a deep hurt that we've never seen before. It's not obvious, but there's definitely that separation from the softer Vespertine, even if they do hold similar themes
Other than that, nice review, I agreed with a lot of your points otherwise.
Yea! I was waiting for a comment on "NotGet" too!
I think Notget it's my fav track in that album
+JJ Keyboards I think if pain and suffer has a sound that definitely sounds like the music "family" that instrumental is so much to handle.
The continuous string moving out of tone ...and the strong beat is like arrows in the heart. Her voice.... her voice almost make me cry.
Jhony August only almost? I can't bear to listen to Family unless I'm ready for a good cry - that song is just so beautifully haunting
JJ Keyboards Yes beautifull but so sad... i avoid listening it to often because make me depressed.
I love that you mentioned the closure thing in Quicksand. I don't know why most of the fans I know didn't like that final song. Though I agree with you on the abrupt ending, the lyrics are pure poetry, simple, sad and hopeful, especially the last bit: "We are the siblings of the sun, let's step into this beam, for everytime you give up you take away our future. And my continuity, and my daughter's. And her daughter's, and her daughter's". It is the most poetic yet realistic way to describe a new point of departure I've ever heard.
u should review Vespertine
My personal album of the year for 2015. I can't get to Family without there being tears in my eyes. The first half is lyrically heartbreaking (especially since a year prior to the release of this album my 15 year relationship ended like a car crash and was something I never saw coming) but it does not dwell in sadness as there is a distinct emotional change in the last three songs (Atom Dance, Mouth Mantra and Quicksand) that by the end you are left with a sense of hope. If you bookend it, Vulnicura (about the dissolution of a relationship and the crater that is often left behind to cross) is definitely the dark twin to 2001's Vespertine (that lush sexually acute album that is all about falling deeply, madly in love)
Stonemilker, Black Lake, Family, Atom Dance are now some of my favorite Bjork tracks.
Stefarooh Thank you. It seems as though no one on this comment list appreciated this album quite like us. I share the same sentiment, even now...1 year later...this album still hurts.
Angel Ito I love this album so much! So darkly intimate with the lyrics & vocals. And the string arrangements are so lush, gorgeous &even at times haunting on some particular tracks like Mouth Mantra. I think people will fully appreciate this record in the next few years to come.
Honestly, it’s a 9/10. A bit of a return to her Vespertine sound and well executed experimentation overall
I've always loved for your hair to grow out. You're looking good.
Thxxxxxx
haha noo! ne yellow one again!
Björk is probably the greatest artist of the past 25 years. I've been so invested in her discography, there is so many different styles in each album and it's all experimental and near flawless. Absolutely astonishing. She has so many different musical sides; it really is an experience in itself to be a Björk fan.
The production on this album is beautiful and the entire album is just lovely to listen to. It's definitely one of her highest quality releases when it comes to well written and well crafted songs. It's only let down by not having much that stands out, nothing is particularly catchy or really makes as much impact as stuff on her previous releases, other than maybe Stonemilker and Black Lake. Still i am not disappointed, it's a great album.
Every night I wake up in a cold sweat, thinking... Maybe, maybe I saw it wrong, maybe he changed the score of Yeezus... I proceed to the interwebs where to my dismay our lord and savior Kayne is slandered with an un-420/10 score... I cry myself to sleep yet again
literally this
Nigga Fantano is after all still a human being. Believe my experiences! *You should never completely change your mind because others tell you so.* Fantano had his reasons to dislike it, but you have your damn reasons to like it!!! And there are a lot reasons, so shut the voice in your mind hollering the bad score just the fuck up and *ENJOY WHAT YOU WANT TO* There is nothing more subjective than music is. There is no right way to describe or rate an album
Ein Hässlon There' nothing subjective about how based Kanye is. He may not be a Based God, but he's a man of god so hurry up where his damn massage? His damn croissants?
Ein Hässlon I want to give you a hug
Ein Hässlon A big manly hug.
Stonemilker is on my top 5 favorite Björk songs
When I hear artist like Bjork It reminds me of a quote Miles Davis said... "it's not about standing still and becoming safe. If anybody wants to keep creating they have to be about change.”
It's nice to be caught in warmth, but it's more exciting to be lured into it from the cold.
Woah he has hair?!
A beautiful album. I love Vespertine, so it made me really happy when I listened to Vulnicura and heard the connections. It almost feels like a companion piece.
Do you ship Björk and MC Ride?
MMMMMMM, Naa na.
i always come back to this review to remeber melon's hair
Great review! I love how you cover everything, and the laid back way you conduct yourself while speaking to us. :) I'll definitely check out more of your stuff!
I can tell you were way more attentive to this álbum by Bjork than to many others
lostcauseforkl oh yah?
Bjork's photo from Debut is literally the most beautiful thing i've seen in my life, tnx for reminding me that. Gave me lots of feels, now i'll cry myself to sleep.
STOP COPYING CAL'S HAIRSTYLES!!
Pushon Bhattacharya I'MS ORRY!!!!
Best album Björk released in a long, long time. Sounds like a love child of Homogenic and Vespertine. 9/10
'lionsong' is definitely one of my favourite songs on the album, but i also really loved 'mouth mantra', that bass is incredible!
for everyone reading this right now... it's SO IMPORTANT to listen to this album with high-quality audio files (either 320mp3 or FLAC), and on a good sound system. it really makes the electronics shine!
Listening to Vespertine now. Thanks, Fantano. Can't believe I've been missing out on these songs from Bjork.
Aphex Twin's new instrumental EP after an unexpected Syro and now Bjork releases a brand new album out of the blue..? Somebody pinch me cause I think this must be heaven...
For me was one of her best- The album was released when I went through a break up my self(after 12 yrs relationship) and it was quite impressive how she could describe some of these abstract, distorted and complex feelings. As much as the lyrics where accurate the music, the beat, the peace, the tension... was so accurate matching those times
one of the most raw albums ive heard in a while
I'm always a bit anxious before I hear someone's opinion about Bjork as so many misunderstand her or judge her based on one or two songs. I loved this review though, and really appreciate the thought and feeling you put into it and the eloquence with which you expressed it. I can't wait to listen to he album - I'm already in love with Black Lake and I've only heard he trailer. :) Oh and Vespertine is my favourite album too. I don't know where you live, but if you have the chance to see her in New York, you should.
Melon… without the melon…. Wtf is this
I try not listen to reviews of music until after ive settled into it myself but I was so looking forward to hearing your review of this. You are the man to listen to wether we agree or not I always look forward to your thoughts
How about doing a review for Vulnicura Strings, the companion work? I'll be very interested in how you see the string versions of the songs.
My favorite is Homogenic.
Ben Richardson mine is Medúlla 🙌💜
Ben Richardson Me Too :D
Kevin M Me too
Timothy Young i think that’s vespertine
After 8 years I still can't disagree more this deserved a 11.
You talk about loving Vespertine!!! Please review it, I want to know what you loved about it. Hell, I feel like you should review all of them haha.
I like how she went back to doing very personal stuff like she did with Vespertine. She has an awesome ability to evoke emotion and I hope she continues with it.
melon having hair hurts my brain and destroys everything I thought I knew in this world
How this is not a 10 is beyond me. I have never experienced anything alike when listening to this album
Had some pretty trippy dreams to Quicksand.
This must be the first Bjork album you have ever listened to.
Great review. This album is very reminiscent of Vespertine at times which is my favorite release by Bjork as well. It left me wanting more for sure with the abrupt ending.
Loved this album. I know you were partial to Biophilia but I really enjoyed that album too. Vespertine is definitely my personal favorite, so I'm glad that somebody agrees with me. Most people prefer Post or Homogenic, and they are fantastic albums, but something about Vespertine struck me.
My favorite Bjork album is Post, although I really like Homogenic
SuperDuck yea post is the shit
+SuperDuck All her albums are great! :)
***** just, stop...
I can’t believe the song Family. It’s stunning.
so underrated. i cry every time i listen
I really like your reviews. Always interesting and a way to find music I wouldn't otherwise know about. Now to visit amazon via your site.
Can't wait to pick this.up in March, glad you liked it
This ones a 9.
Bjork is revolutionary. I am ecstatic to hear this record
I liked your review, I had the opportunity to work in the context of bjork Digital, the vr exhibition based on that one album, and you are quite spot on on the overall work. I do feel that it's an album that have to be listen to a certain order, and for some people Vulnicura Strings migth be a better option for the content of it.
Great review anthony, you put into words exactly what i thought about the album, and one of the things you kind of touched on is calling this album a breakup album, because i really don't like labelling it as a "Breakup Album" because I think it doesn't express just how emotionally moving this album really is. I really do love this album so much
Fantano with hair. What was this, a false flag operation?
He had hair
Superb review, one of the best you've done imo :)
Nice review. I really liked this album but it's one of those albums that you have to be in a certain mood in order to fully appreciate. I happened to be in such a mood for music like it at the time, and it resonated with me quite a bit.
This album rips my heart out of my chest. With the exception of Quicksand, I can't say it's an enjoyable listen but it's emotionally rich. I respect Björk even more now for being so courageous, bold and daring enough to get so personal for a change. I just wish Antony wasn't on the album. I can't stand the way he sings. Atom Dance would have been a classic without him mucking it up.
P.S. Anthony growing hair out
Cornrows confirmed
Great review. I'm really excited to hear it now!
When I was flying from France to America, they had this album on the plane. And it sounds good
Why didn't you talk about Black Lake?
***** i thought i did.
I need to stop jacking off when I watch you videos, I'm bad at multitasking.
***** hahahahha. When they say "jerk off and watch the needledrop" it doesn't mean at the same time!!
You win the internet with that comment
When I said "When they say "jerk off and watch the needledrop"" I was referring to a rap lyric that I just had thought of in my head for a few years but had never told anyone
9/10
An Amazingly interesting and creative piece of music.
My favourite tracks are Mouth Mantra and Notget
Great job man!! Very detailed and precise!
Is the pink record behind your left shoulder Deafheavens Sunbather?
hair
Wow I must admit I wasn't expecting your review to be that positive. But it has inspired me to give it another few listens. Bjork's my favorite artist and I'll always support her but I think I was expecting beats too much. But I must say it is avant garde.
How do you define avant garde?
PJ good question, Harvey
I was also kinda disappointed by the beats (as I heards the leak..) I hoped for something like a level-up to Xen (which was, as I now know, recorded after Vulnicura) or at least that strangeness. After all that critical acclaim I am going to check it out again, too.
>avant-garde
really? i think this is one of her most straightforward albums. medulla and biophilia were probably the hardest for me to get into
She's a truly cunning person, she never made something easy or ''pop'' if you think about it, but she earned money like a popstar.
Do you think you'd ever review Homogenic? I would love that
I have heard of her but not familiar to her material where can I start?
8 years and a lot of hair gone...
What to review next ...Mela9 Diaspora: Musings On African Sounds amazing beat tape
that's reminiscent of Madlib.....
threadpusher thanks for the reco.
But of course dude. Hope you dig it.
thanks Panlanthony. I'll definitely be checking this one out. Was wondering if you have/would do a review on Panda Bear vs. the Grim Reaper? (not sure if you may have done it already)
nevermind, Found it!
Great review, I agreed with all the things you said. A beautiful album from start to end, emotionally crafted and complex, also Bjork's most personal and intimate since Medùlla. I am amazed how she manages to bring always something unique, even through a clichè topic like the break-up thing, she's a mastermind.
Loved this record. I was disappointed about Björk's latest work like megalomaniac Biophillia and Volta, but Vulnicura will be probably one of my favorites. Beautiful deep songs.
I agree with you. I admit, I do love Volta, and Biophilia is good but not Bjork's best album. Vulnicura, however, is like a grand return to her original form of music. It reminds me of Vespertine and Homogenic. Each song in this album is like a story of Bjork's heartbreaking split with Matthew Barney, and her performance helps us feel her pain; it's just sad. All the songs are magnificent, but my favorite song from this album is Stonemilker.
I'm so glad that Bjork is back. It's amazing how everyone is talking about her album now. I thought I was living in a generation of bad music. But whenever Bjork has some new songs, it's like a breath of fresh air.
OHMYGOD HE HAS HAIR
really digging that haircut, as well as this review. i can't wait to listen to this album
I love this album, the lyrics are so well written especially when she gives almost a scientific approach of how love needs to be in order to work for two people. i could see some "biophilia" going on in the tracks but like you said, i see an influence from Vespertine brought into 2015.
Her vocals are insanely difficult and show a lot of research. Ive been listening continuously this album for five days already and i always find something new to enjoy. History of Touches is by far my favorite with Stone Milker. I really enjoyed your review. You are awesome ;)
this album is absolutely heartbreaking.
Matthew Barney apparently broke her heart ... typical Aries
Best album review, although I didn't agree with what you said of Mouth Mantra. It's her angry song, a chance to let go of some of that pent up energy. Vulnicura, in my personal opinion, is either the best album of 2015 or in the top 3. Again...my opinion.
This album is probably tied for my favorite of this month, with No Cities to Love being the other one.
Planning on reviewing the new Pond record? It's way better than I thought it was gonna be.
How's your 771 holding up?t Thinking about buying one.
Just realised I don't know a single Bjork song.
Sean Freeman check em out dude
Sean Freeman I guarantee you know It's Oh So Quiet. It was used in the candy crush commercial and it was also pretty famous. Also HyperBallad, Army of me, Jóga, big time sensuality, human behavior, all is full of love, and Venus as a boy are pretty well know too.
Isn't this the chick that had a bomb mailed to her?
Lol yeah, something like that
Dude shot himself on camera shits fucked up.
Yoishify shit got me nightmares. That stalker is the creepiest person ever recorded
Ein Hässlon Dude when i watched his videos i went in thinking it'd be funny or gross but afterward i immediately regretted it. Made my stomach hurt that guy was so creepy.
Yoishify gonna need some links m8
LOVELOVELOVE your review of this album!
I got it on vinyl last week and I really agree with this review. The whole album is just so fantastic, but there is something about the first six songs that's just so powerful. Family is completely out of this world, my favorite song from Vulnicura, tbh.
It's "Byirk" not "Byork"
No.
No, it's not.
Haha sounds like cal.
Rhymes with jerk.
It's pronounced "pjœr̥k ˈkvʏðmʏntsˌtoʊhtɪr".
Why is he not bald?
He's getting there. It's a long slow process
I really liked this album! the only track I had some trouble was Mouth Mantra (least favorite) it just felt that those percussion beats shadowed the strings and other features in the track...
Always great and intelligent reviews Anthony.
