The worst part about her singing is that she sounds like she probably could sing well but just refuses to.
I mean she’s shown on earlier tracks like Johnny Run Away that she can actually sing well without the screechy high voice. If there’s one song I can tolerate from Tones and I, it’s that one.

It’s actually an unironic tribute to Bonham’s kick pedal in Since I’ve Been Loving You
I live in Taiwan where Dance Monkey was really popular and I think a lot of success for artists like Tones and I relies on listeners from foreign countries having basic to mid level understandings of English. Hugely successful pop in the US is often underwhelming, but does hit a certain standard. Out here it’s the wild west of what barely listenable song will be imported over. The line mentioned here about “does anyone else feel like this?” is a perfect example where the vague and basic nature of the line benefits its success in a place where it’s harder for listeners to understand metaphorical speech.
I heard Dance Monkey probably ten times at the gym here before learning what it was called or who it was by, which happened due to Anthony over here.
Dance monkey was also huge in Italy and France
Hi fellow Taiwanese, also I think you're partially correct in that statement because it charted extremely high in a lot of other non-Anglophone countries which don't have a high percentage of English speakers. I also think it's partially due to a lot of music producers promoting it in excess in an attempt to appeal to your people, which can make almost any song popular (e.g. a lot of songs off Sour got big off this)
@@madisonkung8390 Definitely. Do you know how these producers go about doing this in Taiwan? I've been curious since radio isn't a thing anymore. Most people I know here listen to music on youtube and spotify but I'm unsure if labels are able to target certain areas through these.

Because pretty much no one heard the record and just judged from the dance monkey which they hate since it was a popular hit ( mainly ), so yeah T&I is like the new cool to hate on artist.. that's being said, the album is basically a high pitched compilation of Sia's worst and blandest tracks that couldn't make it into the final cut of her last albums.
Ive never felt the need to speak for my entire country before, but I actually have to here.
Australia is deeply sorry for exporting Tones and I to the rest of the world. She should still be busking on a sidewalk on the gold coast. I can't describe how much we regret this mix up.

i live in victoria and a couple of my friends' bands were rehearsing at a local studio we use all the time for gigs, rehearsals and recordings, and, according to them, one day tones & i just rocked up out of nowhere and demanded the owner of the studio kick them all out so she could use the studio all for herself, ive heard the same story from like 8 people who were all there at the time. its not a very well known studio apart from the people who frequent it, and the weirdest part is it primarily used by the local metal and punk bands. (edit: this happened, i believe around late 2019 to early 2020, whenever dance monkey started to get reeeaaally popular / and yes, the studio owner did end up kicking out the other bands for her, it wasn't really his fault tho, he didn't have much of a choice)

My friend saw tones and I live and she mainly did "pop" covers of boomer rock radio songs and a few originals. Really shows how herself and her management view her career.
I've watched this review twice a day since it came out. Truly soothing music to my aching ears after enduring Dance Monkey.

My girlfriend made the mistake of playing ‘I’m a mess’ on a random Spotify playlist in the car once and I was flabbergasted as to how it was created by a real human being. It randomly came up again yesterday so I decided to CZcams and see if Fantano had reviewed it. I’ve never felt more justified in my life than I did hearing his opinion on that piece of shit.

If you're talking about her at splendour on the grass. Idk how, but that performance of dance monkey is the most viewed video from her is the most viewed video on triple j's CZcams, sitting at a solid 126mil views
It's really sad that she has tons of fans that think she is genuinely like a next-level vocal prodigy singer
I have searched dance monkey up on CZcams and all of the comments are talking about how "amazing" her voice is. (Including a video from a vocal coach) I don't get it, I really don't.... what are they hearing that we aren't??
The only explanation is that it was opposite day when they wrote that
Every one of those musician/vocal coach/music teacher/white guy pretending to have never heard of Metallica before/ reacts channels are pandering to their viewers and never say a bad word about anything because that would lose them their subscribers etc. Most of those channels feed on their followers' desperate need for validation for their shitty taste in music.
So I wouldn't really count on what some "react" channel has to say about tones and i or whoever else.

This is the lowest recorded score he has ever given on any record (excluding NOT GOODs which are more ambiguous in their ranking and probably fall between 0-3. NOT GOODs are based on if the album had any semblance of creativity or potential). Speeding Bullet got a decent 0.
The Big Day and Father of All got strong 0s.

Isn't a strong zero a worse score than a light zero? Light seems to imply it has some vague potential of being a 1.
@@Harkwit think of it like a strong 10 is better than a light 10. A strong 9 is closer rating to 10 than light 9, In the same way a strong 0 is closer to 1 than a light 0.
BTW I believe fantano has since confirmed that while caught up in his ranting he forgot to say SB2H was a strong 0 (to a light 1)

PC music and hyperpop are transformative in that they allow for the curation of music landscapes which require some (re)considering sometimes.
