I feel like if that's all this video was I would accept it just as much. And the main question I had come to hear answered will have answered haha
I think what really sunk this album is the somewhat lack of thoughtful introspection from Drake. I know that he's moved on from replicating the sound of Take Care and Nothing Was The Same because he wanted to shift from the perception that he's a sensitive guy, but his life has significantly changed since those albums and this would've been a good time to reflect on his successes and failures.
In fact, I think CLB could've worked as a concept album the way the Weeknd did with After Hours. Perception has always been a thing with Drake, (e.g. Sensitive Drake, Jamaican Drake, Actor Drake, etc.) so why not embrace that perception and work to completely dismantle it through the music, like developing a character arc and such?
Maybe I'm thinking too hard about it since we already have the final product, so it probably doesn't matter in the end. It's just that Drake's latest catalogue of music is making me lose respect for him as an artist. CLB doesn't give me the impression that he's working on maturing his sound or even himself.
there are some lyrical bangers on this album. what makes clb great is it's variety. there's something for every situation on it. i guess that's why months later, everyone is still listening to it & the hate has died down significantly. it is actually a great album and im surprised how much im going back to it considering my favourite drake era was from 2009-2015. maybe he knows what he's doing and the haters are slowly catching up. man just sold another 63k in his 9th week.

I agree! I'm not a Kanye West super fan, but I really enjoyed his new release and I couldn't stand this new Drake album. I never liked Drake to begin with because his music is so boring, but Kanye at least knows how to think outside the box and push boundaries in the world of hip hop. This is what I’m trying to say about someone like Eminem vs JayZ. Eminem is still on the horrorcore, obscene eminem-esque corny lines while Jay Z is now rapping about growth and his life and relationships.
Don’t get me wrong, a nice well written Eminem or jayz song that pulls from their own decades long formula is good, but by this point, I’m tired of hearing Eminem (or drake to this point) rap about the same things over and over again.

And it's not even the dark subject matter but his new music doesn't sound too good. His beat choices are bad now and that side b was just so unnecessary. Kamikaze was his last strong project. He can still make amazing music and he proved that with Darkness. I just don't understand why he doest make an entire album with songs like Darkness and Castle/Arose
@@Dooms_Day_King valid, but at least Eminem is still lyrically/technically very fucking insane, and at least sounds motivated on most songs, his content may be hit or miss, but at least he has aspects that can/do save it. Drake doesn't, all Drake has ever really had is sound, and now he doesn't even have THAT anymore what with how lazy and unmotivated he sounds, plus the oversaturation of auto-tune for a majority of the tracks. Plus lyrically/technically Drake has always been pretty bad, I'm not tryna dick ride Eminem or anything, but while Em's music is flawed, there's still saving graces and skill put into the craft, none of this is true for Drake as of right now.
I feel like Kanye always takes mad risks and makes bold choices on his albums, where Drake always plays it safe. I always appreciate it when artists show confidence and boldness.

Drake was taking risks early on by singing (because not many rappers were singing back then) but now every rapper is singing. He did take mild risks embracing tropical dancehall and afrobeat sounds, that risk paid off but apart from that I can’t say he takes many risks. KANYE? 😅he jumps out the window on every release, he’s so unpredictable. LATE REG to GRAD to 808s to MBDTF to YEEZUS? That a run of albums that sound nothing alike. It’s like he builds a house of sound. blows the house up. burns the ashes. and builds it again. He’s a madman!!! Drake just sticks to his tried and true formulas (which is fine as along as him and his fanbase are happy with it).

Drake presented yet another mediocre album after a year of building of this “certified lover boy” persona I think fans expected a more thematic album but CLB brings nothing new to drake and I think this disappointment will damage the hype for the next drake projects. Alot of Drake's audience doesn't pay attention that deeply to his music. They don't care about the beef, or the context which makes so many of these songs seem like a rehash of prior material, I wouldn't be surprised if 2 or 3 of these records turn into hits.
