  • After waiting almost 12 months, here's my first day review with the Tikka t1x, tried a dozen different ammunition options with some interesting results. Looking forward to getting it out of the plastic stock and away from that weird barrel bedding block.

I'm one of the lucky guys that purchased one of the two that arrived at my local gun shop. After about 100 rounds mine has tightened up the group a bit. Consistently 1 moa at 50 yards with CCI SV, SK and Center-X. Several 5 shot groups.3" with CX.
I've had no magazine or feed issues though the feeding was a bit stiff at first. Trigger is crisp and easily adjustable. Paid $479 and think that's not a bad price for this rifle. Shooting as well as my CZ 452's without any modification and much better than my experience with 455. YMMV
I'm quite happy with this rifle.

I had a LA101 in laminate stock. Was really nice. Very accurate and worked without fail. But downside is you can’t customise them really at all.
So I traded it in for a T1X and dropped it straight into a SCSA chassis, lightened the trigger, leupold pic rail, aftermarket bolt knob, Luth ar pistol grip and a MLOK leapers bipod and topped with Arken sh4 gen2 6-24x50
After probably 300-400 rounds bolt is now silky smooth, zero issues, solid as a mf and shooting 0.3” 5 shot groups at 50m all day long with SK Match & standard. Pretty bloody mint for a $1000 rimfire. Loved my LA101 but dam… I’m not regretting buying and setting up my T1X!

According to Tikka the block in the stock is there as a gap filler only. Taking it out leaves a gap in between the barrel and stock so i carefully sanded mine down to allow the barrel to free float. I put a few hundred rounds thru mine and gave the barrel a thorough scrub and clean. I love my Tikka 22lr and it shoots SK Standard into 1/2 inch groups or less at 50 meters all day every day. Reviewer seemed to have a negative opinion of the rifle before he even tested it. Great hunting rifle in my opinion.

First off, that piece of plastic screwed down under the barrel is a spacer for when the 17HMR is in the stock.
For best results take it out for the 22lr. I have one of these but the 16.5" barrel and it shoots better than the SK Standard ammo and I took out the spacer, as it is supposed to be a free floating barrel!
I traded a 1416 Anschutz for this little cheap Tikka T1x in 22lr and it is a better. But I did replace the trigger spring to lighten the still crisp trigger.
The only fault I have and it's just my preference is the LOP is too short and I'm a small guy too. I run most of my firearms at 14"

After putting around 500 rounds through the rifle, I'm seeing very similar results in grouping. My rifle has a preference for SK Standard, SK Rifle Match and Center X. Groups seem to be opening up a bit so I cleaned the rifle again (second cleaning) yesterday. Bolt has smoothed out. I've had no feeding issues. Though I've had quite a few groups in the.2" to .3" range I think there are some bedding issues. I'm planning to restock the rifle. Not decided yet which stock. Presently I'm using a SWFA ss 20x42 scope. Better than CZ? Definitely better trigger. In my opinion, not better than my 452 CZ's but similar to stock 455's that I've owned (and sold). Still very happy with this rifle.
Long range performance has been pretty good with grouping 1.25" at 100 meters. Even with stringing, the rifle shoots consistently 1 moa at 50 meters with most standard velocity ammunition.
My rifle has a 20" barrel.

I have to say, after looking at literally miles of footage on high end 22lr on CZcams, my final analysis is that you can't beat a Savage FVSR Mark II for the money or the accuracy. Literally every 50 meter group with CCI standard my daughter and I shoot is better than any of the groups in the video, factory plastic stock with a cheekpiece the only alteration, trigger weight cranked down as low as she goes. People get emotionally attached to brands like CZ or Anschutz, pay big bucks and convince themselves that there's value there; no doubt, they're amazing rifles, Savage just got the formula down for a whole lot cheaper.

Just take that bedding block under the barrel out of there. It will then be totally free floating, which is best for any rifle. I have seen other reviews where they shot extremely tight groups, so other than that long ugly magazine, for the price, you cannot beat these rifles.

Typically all the Australian reviews always mention Lithgow . So yo us European guys it’s like talking about Kangaroos , we don’t have those . This rifle is cheap . It doesn’t claim to be extraordinary. Guys are presumptive because it’s a Tikka. If you want top drawer by a Anshuntz or a Weihrauch. If you want a workhorse by a T1x or a Cz . Personally most of what if read and seen has prompted me to trade a Weihrauch 60j , which has the best trigger in the world. An absolutely stunning tack driver for a T1x . Why ? Because it’s a workhorse and I can abuse it . Yes I’ll sacrifice the accuracy of the 60j . But it’s marginal. Will still take down my targets. Tikkas are very attractive period 😊

I’m not European, Australian, or American but I should point out that Tony, (if this is THE Tony Bennedetto born in Queens), was of Italian descent. Should it be a surprise that an Italian man who was ~20 years old when WWII ended has mentioned 2 German rifles being superior to a rifle made in Finland? I am aware people have been waiting for it. It is a new 22 and I couldn't wait to see the reviews myself. The popularity I refer to is the long term sales numbers. It is a good rifle but it will likely be little more popular than the Sako quad rifles that sit on the shelf for months and even years. The oddball receiver that extends forward underneath to fit other Tika stocks is a gimmick that will likely hinder sales rather than make more sales. The magazine makes it easy to get ahold of but uglier than sin and a back gouger when slung over neck and shoulder. I mention it is a shame because it is a quality product but a few decisions will likely affect sales negatively. We have one here locally and nobody has sprung for it yet in over a month.@@gabeah
