    At 50 yards the MOA is 2 times the reported results. Thank you for reporting your findings.

    I added a tikka T1X to my collection recently. Not in any particular order I found the best results with Wolf Match Extra, Tac-22 Match, Eley Match and Eley Tenex. I also found the SK long range to be a good choice. For every day practice I use the cheapest of these ammos. For match use I go with Eley Match or Eley Tenex. BTW, I eliminated Federal, Eley Target, Eley Contact, and the basic Tac-22. Thank you for sharing your results.

    Thanks for sharing your results! I just today unexpectedly stumbled upon a couple boxes of Midas +. I'd never seen it before. Bought my 2 box allowance on a whim. Didn't even know what it cost. That's was a bit of a surprise 🤣 Looking forward to trying in the my newish T1x.
    Oh, and I completely get the focused but relaxing nature of target shooting. It's a great way to clear one's mind of all the clutter.

      @@AimSmallMissSmall_TV Will do! The "2 box" allowance refers to the fact that our local Sportsman's Warehouse (the only big box sporting goods store where I live) has a 2 box a day per caliber per customer limit on rimfire and center fire rounds, both handgun and rifle. If they didn't ration it out the first folks in the store after they stock the shelves would literally buy all the good .22 and all the range 9mm and .45 and all the 5.56/.223 and some others. Still no limit on shotgun shells tho so I've started trying my hand at trap shooting. It's fun and different altho not as relaxing. Oh, and we can't order ammo on line in Alaska so we're at the mercy of whatever retailers can get it.🤷🏻‍♂️

      Okay, I remember when we had that rule, that was when 22 ammo was on short supply. I remember the lines on the mornings a store got their shipment. At the time I traveled all over the country for work and I'd go to any store that sold ammo and buy what I could.

    What a great video. I’m also just getting started and I understand that there are so many variables that come into play but the info you present gives us new guys a great starting point. I ended up taking that shim thing out of my stock. And the reason is because I plan to get a chassis at some point and won’t be able to take it with me.

    You would think the bigger the group size the worse your ARA score. That wasn’t always the case. Seems like SK standard plus performed well. It’s also cheap surprised it didn’t make it onto the list. Thanks for shooting up a couple hundred bucks of ammo and sharing with me.

    • @AimSmallMissSmall_TV
      @AimSmallMissSmall_TV  Před 3 lety +1

      Julius, You bring up a good point. What I discovered is shooting 5 round groups is easier since I am not moving the rifle to a different target each time. With that said when I shot the 5 round groups I did not try to make changes based on wind or anything else. I zeroed to the bullseye and aimed at the bullseye and pulled the trigger. I figured this would be the bast way to see what the ammo would do.
      Shooting the ARA target I tried to adjust for wind of course at the time of shooting these targets I did not have any flags and had to relay on the flags at the range which really are not helpful. So I would make adjustments based on where the previous bullet landed.
      Lastly I did not suggest the SK Standard + because I wanted to recommend ammo that I thought you'd be able to shot a perfect score and the SK Standard + did not seem like it would meet the mission. As far as the ARA targets go the SK Standard + finished in 12th place.
      Thanks for the great comment.

    I found out of my Tikka T1X that Sk long range match was the best. I tested all my ammo at 100yds. I consistently get less than .5 with that ammo and usually less than .4 (of course I have to be very patient for no wind). I have found that a lot of the ammo will shoot well out to 75yds then they fall apart. For practice I use CCI standard or federal auto match. With the federal I usually get around .75 or a little larger @100yds. The price point drives me to that auto match ammo - but the CCI standard also works well enough if that’s all I can find. Funny thing is my tikka hated the lapua ammo. I was pleased that it didn’t like it since it is so pricey.

    You probably realize this by now, but a .5" group, shot at 50 yards, is around 1 moa. Not "1/2 moa", as you state. Good video on how your rifle shoots though. Something hopefully most of your viewers know is that every rifle is different. Someone else's rifle may prefer something totally different. Also an eye opener on how ammo prices have changed for the better in the last 3 years. CCI std. velocity can be found all day long for $4.99 now. Most of the other ammo listed is also cheaper right now: Thankfully. As for your suggestions on which cheap ammo to practice with, I would definitely not use TAC 22, as you suggested. That ammo falls very short, in all of my rifles. That is ALL of them. I've actually had better luck with Federal Automatch. That is some ammo you can buy very cheaply, and shoot till your heart is content. It's easy to find too, at you local Wally world.

      Thanks for your feedback back and comments. You are correct on the MOA, I sometimes lose my mind while to the videos and miss the mistakes in editing, of course at the time of the video I may have not even given it any thought and not making the connection I don’t shoot at 100 yards. The TAC 22 is an interesting ammo, I’ll get 3 or 4 shots in a decent group and then one flyer sometimes inches away. For my rifles SK Standard + probably a better choice.

    I really appreciate the work you have done compiling the data. I’d disagree with you on the plastic barrel shim. I removed mine. I’d also like to point out that unless you clean the rifle between ammo selections and fire at least 100 to 150 fouling shots before each selection of that same type of ammo your numbers will be invalid. Each type will foul the bore differently and accumulate in the bore over the length of your test.

    • @AimSmallMissSmall_TV
      @AimSmallMissSmall_TV  Před 3 lety +1

      Mike, Thanks for you comment. Mind if I ask what ammo and what group sizes you are getting? I totally understand about the fouling and because my goal was to get an idea of what ammo works best in the Tikka T1x and not spend too much money. Shooting 100 or 150 fouling shots would have defeated my goal. Imagine shooting 100 fouling shots of tenex. So with that said, I believe you can take the data I have and get an idea of what not to use and do deeper test to find the right ammo for your rifle.
      Why did you take out the shim and I am guessing you are happy with the results. Depending on what you reply with I may try doing the same. My Tikka just came back from service so before I put the scope back on I maybe remove the shim.
      Thanks again,
      Bret

    • @mikewilliams719
      @mikewilliams719 Před 3 lety

      The plastic shim is just that a shim/filler piece it’s more esthetic than functional. It really makes it impossible to load a bipod or rest on a bag without causing unwanted pressure on the barrel negatively affecting accuracy/consistency. Removing the shim free floats the barrel. I am using Norma tac-22 and producing sub .40 groups at 50. I have made some changes to the factory set up. I’ve changed the trigger spring, stiffened the forend with an epoxy pour for rigidity and weight, added the tx3 vertical grip, and metal bottom plate/trigger guard that allows for consistent action screw torquing.

      My question to you regarding the different results between the two days was the time of day or weather conditions different? I have had that experience from time to time it is puzzling. How many rounds did you shoot the second day?

      @@AimSmallMissSmall_TV The conditions where close to the same as to temp time of day and wind ... late in the evening the wind goes to almost nothing where I live . I have only had the gun for a few weeks and just been testing ammo so prob
      150 rounds but toady I tested CCI standards and then went back to SK match... 5 shots ...... the first test with SK M was 5 at 50 for a .365 and to day was the same for a 5 @ 50yards for a .876 ... the CCI where 5 @ 50 yards for a .477 this will drive me crazy because all rounds on SK where out of same box

    • @AimSmallMissSmall_TV
      @AimSmallMissSmall_TV  Před 3 lety

      The only thing that comes to mind, after you shot the CCI did you run some SK prior to shooting the 5 round group? I will also say it doesn't seem to take much of a breeze to effect the bullet. I also feel a nice consistent wind may actually help.
      In my next vides I plan on introducing flags to see if that helps. I have shot in the evening and morning where I'd be shooting and all of a sudden the rounds aren't shooting the same. I believe this is due to a change in the environment. In the morning going from cool to warn or hot and just the opposite in the evening. I also believe humidity even 50 Yards may have something to do with it.
      I figure I am learning the basics and if I can master this I'll have a good foundation if I decide to shoot long distance or maybe purchase a match rifle for the Bench Rest shooting.
      I hope this helps and we are all learning together.
      On another note. I hear shooting indoors is not the answer either apparently even indoor shooting has it's own challenges, who know.
