I look for consistency of tight groups. Velocity does not matter to me. Standard deviation does not matter to me. All that matters is consistent, repeatable and tight groups. I hate flyers.

@@AimSmallMissSmall_TV I have been using Aguila 40 gr. super extra lrn ammo. I have shot it in my Vudoo and Cz 457 mtr. I sort ammo using a Raven eye custom gauge and a 1/2" throw max Digital indicator with a flat tip, its easier on my 55 yr old eyes to read a digital readout, I believe it cost roughly 60 dollars for the raven eye, digital gauge and tip set. It takes aprox 8 seconds to measure per round so a little over 5 minutes to sort a box of 50. I measure out to .0005 thousandths. Most ammo averages roughly .041 to .042, I typically sort to 8 batches and use the extreme end ammo to warm a barrel or foul in after cleaning. But last weekend I shot a rim and my vudoo and both shot quite a bit better shooting SK yellow box standard plus, eventually I will buy a chronograph, but as of now I just adjust my ballistic calculator based on point of impact, I have a rough idea of velocity but it would be nice to have good numbers

Good video - appreciate it. I have a 457 LRP and did a lot of testing on it and my gun prefers the RWS Special Match (I shot a .348 size group aggregate avg, on 6 consecutive 5 shots groups at 50 yards - Avg velocity low 1100's fps - with one lot of that ammo). RWS match was quite good as well. The cheapest ammo that did quite well in my gun was RWS Target Rifle where I got one lucky 6 back to back 5 shots groups at .362 avg at 50 yards - but like you said the odd bad flyers with this ammo makes it un-useable in comp.
With all the better Eley ammo, my bolt close is extremely hard and I can't use it. So testing your gun is critical to see what works.
Rifle match was no better than RWS Target Rifle in my gun.
At 50 yards a guy can get away with a higher ES, but the flyers are what will get you. Also a low ES doesn't help my groups sizes in any of my guns per se at 50 yards, but it does at 200 yards.
You can see my groups above at snipers hide if you want to see them.
    thanks

There seems to be some deception pertaining to who makes what when it comes to actual ammunition manufacturers of various and obtainable .22 LR match grade. Most that I have used cost far too much with questionable results. My CZ457 MTR seems to prefer the [german made] WOLF brand match grade for 50 meter work. Your information is very helpful for yhose just getting started in this sport, but the old method of trial and error is always present. It takes a while. Also take into consideration that the various brands of .22LR match cartridges use differing amounts of wax bullet lubrication which will account for a certain of problems for bore condition, shot after shot.

    • @AimSmallMissSmall_TV

Question is the WOLF you shoot ELEY made? If your not sure look at the back of the brass where the firing pen strikes it. I am guessing there is an ‘E’ imprinted on it. Prior to ELEY making the Ammo Lapua made the ammo and there was an imprint of a target on it.

I believe buying guns can be a bit like buying a lottery ticket and we are looking for the winners. It is kind of a bummer you can’t return a not so accurate rifle but I think there maybe an other option.
Send the rifle back to the manufacture and have them make it right. This can be a timely and maybe a painful process but hopefully the end result will be worth it. I think CZ does a great job supporting their product.

  • @timbcf

Good work, i think leaving out the fliers is a good idea for seeing what the rifle shoots, how ever listing the number of fliers reflects manufacturing faults and to many is no good for comps. • @lmbear
      @lmbear Před 2 měsíci

Leaving out fliers is never a good idea. The fliers tell you something is aloof. Hopefully that makes sense to you. Generally it means there is a mechanical issue with the rifle, scope or mounting, poor ammo, or poor shooter. Sometimes just 1, 2 or all 3. If that does not make sense, check out his day at the range challenge scores. In fun shoots like those, targets don't lie. Neither do real life competitions. Those that don't shoot competition, may not understand that.

No i understand, even the most expensive and best lot number may still have 3 to 5 flyers per box, i think we all know a flyer when we see 1, as specially after 40 years of shooting.

I will say I don’t think the MTR being a match chamber is an advantage. I am a fan of the longer barrel so if you happen to get access to a 24” barrel maybe that is the way I’d lean. Then subtract the diameter of the bullet that's how you measure groups. That is what I am doing, as mentioned in my last video, I am doing this to learn and hope other learn from my experience good or bad. The reason I ask questions is because I don’t know the answer or I have not come up with my own decision on the subject, so your input is appreciated. I have been fortunate enough to shoot next to some of the best shooters and I suck in everything I can get from what they are willing to teach.
Are you the Sam that shoots at Green Sea and at other places?

@@AimSmallMissSmall_TV you're lieing to yourself sir. It's that simple. And yes that's me I'm in the top 25 for agg in the country. We chase ammo and groups don't mean much. It will weed out bad ammo but it will not show you how consistent the lot is. Shoot for score to test ammo

@@samw2768 Since you're a "legend in your own mind" why don't you come on You Tube and grace the world's rimfire shooters with your grand "top 25" knowledge without your narssicism and blow hard attitude?
