CZ 457 VS TIKKA T1X - WHICH ONE IS BEST??

  • The Tikka T1X and the CZ 457 are two of the better quality, mid priced bolt action 22's on the market. You see both models in competition and both are extremely accurate and well built. But which one is better? I'll give you my thoughts after 100's of rounds through both of these fine rifles.

    Great video. I have had a Tikka T1x for several months. My Daughter and I shoot ARA Bench Rest and my daughter has shot a perfect 2500 score and was #1 junior shooter for 2020. The Tikka has shot many perfect scores in the ARA matches. I purchased a CZ457 AT-ONE and it so far has been shooting well for me. I like the extra weight over the Tikka.

    Good review! My 457 varmint is my favorite .22 next to the 457 American, which is also a fine rifle but much more finicky when it comes to the ammo used. The varmint version seems to do well with various makes of ammo, the American version not much. They are both fine bolt guns which have my attention now as compared to the auto loaders.

    Now this is a proper man’s test comparing two real contenders. Had to make this choice approx. Nov 2019. I ended up going for the CZ - the fit and finish just edged it for me (despite me already owning tikka .17HMR). Wouldn’t swap either of them for anything - phenomenal accuracy. CZ in .22lr gave me (a muppet) an out and out kill shot on a bunny at 104m

    Great review, thank you very much. My dad taught me to shoot with a Winchester 63 that I'll also hand down to my son. I have a nice 1022 and an old Marlin 883 bolt action. The Marlin is accurate but the trigger is horrendous even though a Mcarbo trigger spring helped some. It's time for a new one when your range buddy asks "how do you shoot this thing" after he put 10 rounds down the smoke pole; he shoots a CZ 452. So this is where I'm at which led me to your informative video. I'm a wood and steel man but at my age with some health conditions need a light accurate .22 b/a so I will not discount a synthetic stock.
    After watching your video am leaning towards the CZ457 provided I can find one that's light enough with optics to be comfortable with whether walking around our place or shooting bench rest at the private range. I realize better performance is gained through premium ammo but will either/both shoot plain old off the shelf bulk ammo without harm to the rifle? Thanks again.

    • @HorsepowerHub
      @HorsepowerHub Před 2 lety +1

      Yes they will shoot any ordinary ammo. But I’ve noticed a huge difference with just cci standard velocity and the reason is because once you go supersonic with .22 it will throw off the bullet. I’m not an expert by any means just a hobby but once you get some better ammo it makes all the difference

    • @rudedawg5087
      @rudedawg5087 Před 2 lety

      @@HorsepowerHub Thanks for that and you are correct. I finally located some CCI SV and it groups so much better @ 50 yrds. than HV rounds, it's a difference of day and night. The bad news is now having an abundance of HV ammo that can only be used accurately @ 25 yrds. rather than @ 50. The next problem is finding either the CZ or Tikka, my s-i-l's brother owns a gun shop and has had no luck finding either the T1x or 457 varmint. Maybe 2022 will be a better year for in stock inventories.

    After years of cz ownership,from the 452,455 and now 457 IMHO they are built like tanks!
    Superb accuracy out to 200 y and beyond!
    The only mod I do to pre 457 is a simple trigger spring!
    I just love the caliber change available on the cz 455\457 also you can fit different length & style of barrels & lilja ones!
    Only thing I'm not crazy about on the tikka is the wire, paper clip like shell ejector,oh and plastic parts!
    The ejector on czs are more robust,steel trigger guard and parts and magazines available everywhere!
    Tikkas shoot well but czs are heirloom rifles, never had a bad one and I've had a lot of czs in my time!

    Thank you very much for a great video - very informative. I'm researching at the moment for my first rimfire bolt action rifle and those two are my favourite.
    I had an opportunity to give a look on the Tikka T1x and CZ 457 Royal last Friday.
    I 100 % agree with you that the Tikka is very small - looks like a toy gun 🔫 and all the upgrades you've done on your own are the must have to be able to use it up to it's potential - seems like good platform - very well put together.
    The CZ 457 Royal - it's just beautiful piece of firearm the wood work is amazing and it feels just right in the hand. I didn't have a chance to see the Varmint version but I expected even better.
    Here in Ireland CZ 457 Varmint is very expensive €1000 vs Tikka T1x €670 is it really worth it ? - I'd like to have both of them.
    My choice is the Tikka as future competition rifle but at some point I'll get the other one also.
    Thanks for excellent comparison and keep up the good work.

      @@luchocazaconaire7789 I eventually passed on t1x upr because even that is the only one has the adjustable cam and pull length, it's barrel is much shorter than at one 24inch version. For accuracy, no matter hunting or competition, longer barrel always gave a little bit more advantage due to more room for rifling so the bullet is more stabilized at higher muzzle energy if everything is equal. If it's your first bolt actions 22, get a Ruger American with half of its price, and build up on it which actually should be more satisfying.

    Its weird that almost everybodys t1x likes rifle match and ceter x. I've tested my t1x with everything I can get in Finland which is over 35 different types. I tested everything at 100 meters with 5x10 groups. Mine didnt care for center-x or rifle match at all.
    From lapua best were Polar biathlon and Biathlon x
    Eley: Match, Tenex, Tenex Biathlon, Sport, Edge were all phenomenal, with thenex and match consistant sub moa 10 shot groups.
    From SK only the new long range match produced acceptable results from 100 meters beyond sub moa-1.5moa. And it is my go to round for price/performance.
    There is no reason to test 22lr at 50 meters because everything nowadays shoot great at 50 meters. Its only at 100 and beyond where you really start to see differences.
    My setup is Steiner m7xi 4-28 msr-2, spuhr 4901, tikka t1x, krg bravo stock, atlas cal bipod.
    For me the tikka was a no brainer since I had a t3x before, so it was an identical trainer. Also in Finland aftermarket parts are way easier to come by than cz. If you want a switch barrel, go cz (or sako quad), otherwise t1x.

    I appreciate your review, but I am confused, according to the groups of both rifles the most accurate is CZ 457 (@100YDS; CZ .617" - TIKKA .819" / @50YDS; CZ .127" - TIKKA .269"), but you use the Tikka for competition ..., I don't understand why use Tikka and not CZ which has greater precision?. 🤔 🇨🇱

    • @rt66rc86

      Either of these fine rifles will easily handle CCI mini-mags! Accuracy will not be what the premium target grade ammo will provide, but you will be shooting "hunting" grade ammo with the CCI mini-mag and they are a pretty fair round in the accuracy department for what they are. You can also use the CCI Velocitors or Stingers if you would prefer something a bit hooter than a a standard loading. They will not damage either rifle's chamber or bore.

      I have a CZ with the manners but had to add adjustable comb and length of pull myself, Boyd’s I believe comes with it which is nice. I heard people on snipers hide aren’t satisfied with the LRP and they recommend going with a different model.

    YOU can get a CZ with a 28 inch barrel the longer barrel makes shore all powder is burn but more important it give you more projectile stability for XLR SHOOTING .

    Why can’t remington or Winchester make a .22 that can compete these guns. (Savage maybe but ugly).I have 2 457s and love em, but I feel like a bit of traitor for owning them. Just me?

    • @rt66rc86
      @rt66rc86 Před 3 lety +3

      I felt that same "twitch" about buying my first CZ 452 rather than an American made rifle of the same or similar configuration. However, the days when Remington or Winchester made a "good" .22 rifle that would do what the current CZ rimfire lineup does are long gone!
      I now have a solid collection of CZ in 452, 455 and 457 in .22lr, .22WMR and .17 HMR respectively, and have just purchased another CZ 457 LUX in .22lr! All of these rifles shoot extremely well and I don't have any problem with buying Chec firearms, they build a fine rifle and I appreciate that they do. Why American gun companies can't get their act together is no longer a concern of mine. Although, it is sad to see that we have fallen so far in this industry!
