    Thanks for the video an chrono results. I just picked up a .17HMR and chrono'ed various loads. It was so accurate that I went to ten shot groups and stretched it out to 200 yards. What really surprises me is that there's no flyers with any of the various brands and types. With the VMax, it shoots a little over a half inch at 100 and under 2 inches at 200 (ten shots)! I should have bought this a long time ago!

    My Marlin likes the 17gr. Hornady. I bought it as soon as it came out, I was really excited about the 17hmr when I heard about it.

    Another tidbit. Take a try at the 15.5 gr NTX round for your 17HMR rifle. I reload thousands of these for my 17 Hornet Model 1771 Anschutz. Even in 5-10 mph wind, a rarely miss ground squirrels in the 200-250 yd range. Many beyond that. One actually at 385 yds, almost no wind. It only gets squirrely (if you will) after 300 with the gusts. I suppose trying the 25 gr Vmax's at that further range would have worked better.
    Its absolutely astonishing though, how that light little 15.5 boattail bullet performs. In fact, that gun is dedicated to that bullet now. Part of the reason I'm viewing your cool video is that its almost pointless to waste all my 17 Hornet reloads on all the ground squirrels out to 100yds. Its almost impossible to miss. So considering the 17HMR. The air time these little critters get, 3-4 ft sometimes at 50-70 yards is kind of addictive though!! Enjoy

      I will be testing out multiple brands of ammo through this rifle… I was fortunate to score some ammo from some of the local gun shops…. So look for more videos coming in the near future…. Right now with all the rainy days we have been having it’s been tough to get any video content made at my shooting spot…

    My CZ457 likes the CCI V-max 17grs. A special feature of the caliber is that the accuracy deteriorates massively after 50 shots due to the barrel contamination. After 50 shots, the barrel needs to be chemically cleaned, then the caliber works very well.

      I didn’t realize 17HMR would be dirty… I am hoping to get a few more rounds through the barrel to season it up… I will probably run a borescope to see what it looks like after a couple hundred rounds.. thanks for watching…

    Looks like you have a good rifle. I always think the 20” barrel versions shoot better than the 16” in .17 HMR.

    • @socalplinker
      @socalplinker  Před rokem +1

      Never had the16” so I can’t comment on it… but this version seems like it is gonna be a fun shooter… thanks for watching…

    Would luv to own an anschutz but I will say this, my cz 527 in 17 hornet is a tack driver with the 15.5 bullet and not only that I have a 17fireball built on a remington 700 action and it is 1/2 or better shooter with 20 grain bullets, I put some 15.5's in it and it will shoot them under have inch also, and under an inch at 200. just purchased the cz 457 and breaking in now.

    Great video and obviously a great rifle. Based on your review, yesterday I purchased the CZ457 Varmint in 17 HMR and waiting on a CZ barrel chambered in 22LR. Two questions. 1. Are you aware of any ballistic calculators that, once zeroed at 50 yards or 100 yards, can assist in predicting impacts at 150-400 yards. 2. What bean bag make and model were you using to steady the rifle rear stock. Keep up the great video's!

    • @socalplinker
      @socalplinker  Před 6 měsíci +1

      If you don’t have a Kestrel… I have had good luck with Hornady’s free ballistic calculator…. As for the bag.. I like the Wiebad Fortune Cookie bag.. glad you enjoyed the video….
