*compares 13 and I repeat THIRTEEN inch Ultrabook with a 37W CPU to 15-17 inch laptops with better cooling, CPUs amd dedicated GPUs*
Oh I wonder why it performed worse than those...
No software could possibly bring down 4K render times to those of say the Aero 17 which has DOUBLE THE CPU THREADS and a frickin 2070 Max Q
That software would be similar to the idea of downloading ram.
Compare it to say the Razer Blade STEALTH which has the same form factor. That would be fair. But not the Rzer Blade Studio which has a dang QUADRO CARD)
Sorry but I can't take those comparisons and those complains seriously.
I get that you were trying to compare the new integrated graphics to something which is totally fine by me. Really.
But maybe for next time just show that it is still worse than dedicated graphics but better than old integrated ones. That would be a fair and non misleading way of saying: It has improved but it obviously is not as good as something dedicated.
But other than that I liked that you dove into multiple DIFFERENT test designed for different usecases. Keep it up!

Thanks for the great review. I have this laptop on order with a 4K/1 TB/16 GB RAM/white key board configuration. There is so much technology packed into this little machine that it was an easy choice for me to include the 3 year extended warranty. I missed the rolling discount on the DELL website but through the chat dialog feature, I was able to get the discount. This is a replacement for my 5 year old 13" MacBook Pro. Dollar for dollar I think there is better value here with this DELL unit. Hopefully I will not be disappointed. Your fan noise warning would be a problem for me. Thankfully I've watched 6 other reviews on this laptop and none complained about the fans after switching the power management to quiet mode. The speakers I am learning are vastly improved over prior models, although I'll be streaming to my Sonos speakers. I'm surprised you found it necessary to swap out the SSD. Yea, not all hardware is compatible. I don't think your other warnings will apply to me as I do not plan to use this machine for video editing & rendering, game playing or for that matter using Facebook. If that were the case, I would have shopped for a different laptop. Regardless, hopefully the BIOS will get that update.

On my newish Dell latitude 7400 2-in-1 for work, there is a Dell power app that allows you to select performance or quiet modes. Also, it seems the speakers werent that good to begin with, it's only cuz of the Maxxaudio software that comes preinstalled on the xps that makes the speakers sound good (turning it off makes it sound pretty bad). These graphics and drivers issue are now days common with windows. The developer edition would be far more stable with Linux.

any recommendation for windows laptop with best thermal performance? I have hp x360 and it is horrific. It heats up just by running chrome for browsing. It heats up crazy and the lousy fan. I would urge anyone who wants to get the newest version.. DON'T
I've used xps 13 before and though the thermal was better I felt the screen was too small and everything seemed to be all jammed

I've had a Dell 9360 (i5, 8GB RAM) for about 18 months that I really like, but the keyboard lags / freezes constantly and the trackpad scroll used to stop working randomly. Luckily one of the issues has been resolved (trackpad scroll) but the keyboard issues continue to drive me up the walls. Since you had the 9370, curious if you ever experienced any of the same issues since I'm thinking of upgrading to the latest gen and don't want to deal with the same issues I have now. I usually have a lot of tabs open on Chrome, but my laptop from 2011 (HP Envy 14) continues to handle the workload with no stutter when I occasionally use it still.

Hey Just Josh for fan noise control have you tried Dell Power Manager app? Under that app there's a thermal management tab that has 4 settings
    Optimal, cool, quite, ultra performance.
I found quite to work quite well on my precision 7540.

Thank you for a really good review.
I was going to buy this PC but will now wait until I know that the issues you raised are solved.
Will you make a follow up on this when you know that it´s fixed and have tested it again? I would really appreciate that.

Man it's so annoying when a machine looks so great at first glance is just crippled. What were they thinking! Also, 2 usb port are enough , but not when one is used for charging. To copy files from my SD card to my external drive, which I do all the time, Ill need to remove power?

My old dell xps laptop also got fan noise issue like suddenly running loud and not slowing down. Fortunately it got fixed after some firmware update/patches. Now it running great now. I am thinking to buy this new XPS for upgrade, but I probably will wait until those issue get fix or looking for other alternative. My old XPS still running good now. Mine is the first dell xps release which already 4 years old, still running great and no issue(I replaced the battery once myself), I just wanted to upgrade to get usb3.1 and bigger screen, performance is not a big concern for me even with my old laptop.

For the black screen when you plug/unplug it, turn off the "hdr for games" mode in the windows settings, which is turned on by default. It switches between frame rates when you go from battery to charger, and the screen goes black when it does that.
