Josh, youre one of the few people that talks about laptops for programmers, plus youre thorough. Id like for you to consider including the visible lines of code metric for any laptops you recommend for devs. Thanks man, you rock!
Nice wide range. This video gives me a good starting point to research further what specs are essential in my personal price range. Thank you.
Hey Josh, great Video, Thanks! I´ve just noticed that the timestamp for the Framework Laptops seems not to be correct. I also watched the video on my PC and feel like that the sound has not the same quality as your other videos.
Got the Strix Scar 16 for Black Nov Sale, it was well within my budget and I’ve never had a device this powerful. I’VE GOT NO REGRETS!
Thank you so much! I was looking forward to this video to help me select a brand new one. What a relief!
This channel is so criminally underrated, Keep up the fantastic work Josh, your mumma gonna be proud of you
Absolutely !!!
The Zenbook 14(No.5 on list) is a truly great laptop.
I bought it for my son. He just started University. I'm sure it will last him at least until he finishes it.
I have the older version of it with the same touch OLED display, 16Gb Ram, Ryzen 7 5800H.
This newer version has much better camera(1080p, very good picture quality), much louder and clearer speakers, 120Hz vs my 90Hz, much better keyboard, bigger battery with longer battery life, and unfortunately fingerprints show much more on my son's laptop.
Hello! How long is stays up with this battery?
@@angheliiulian7162
It depends on how you use it.
If you're really careful and save battery,
the Zenbook 14 OLED (with ryzen 7 7730U) can go 10+ hours. Also if you don't try to save energy and use it on full tilt and full brightness, the battery can die in 2-3 hours.
Here is one of the tests I did:

Such a good video Just, with you time watching videos is never lost. Your categorization of laptops makes perfect sense. I want to go for a Lenovo Slim Pro 9 16", I don't like Intel, and have a poor battery life, but it's a good compromise of quality portability and performance. Thanks for your videos man, such a great value.
How many hours does it take to drain the battery?
I still have an ASUS Zenbook S15 from 2019 and it has been completely trouble free. My wife has been using it as her daily driver now that I have an M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14 as my primary laptop. I mention this because these are two of the brands on your list that I have had good experience with.
My wife through her job has the M1 MacBook Pro 14-inch. Great laptop for Devops engineers.
what antivirus do you run on your pc? I am thinking of switching back to PC from my macbook. thank you

Josh, bravo, it was a really cool review/comparison!
The other problem with the macbooks is the weight. the metal case (vs. other materials) makes them heavy and slippery. On the other hand it also makes them very stiff, which is nice.
I love this extensive review for all of these laptops, very good at keeping up with the details. Side-note: the macbook m2 segment is labeled as a framework laptop!

Nice video 🙌
Is it possible to do a video on the best music production laptops?
Mcpro 14 m3 pro.. lenovo slim pro 9 14"
Hi Josh, really enjoying the valuable content you're putting out! Your insights on the Framework laptop and its upgradability got me thinking. I'm currently considering the ZenBook series, particularly drawn to their OLED screens. I'm eager to hear your thoughts on the Framework laptop versus the ZenBook, given my quest for a new laptop.
I'd also love to hear your perspective on the 14-inch laptop versus other form factors, like the 15.6 inches.
Your video on the top 10 laptops for 14 inches was fantastic, and it's great to see the ZenBook 14 featured with its impressive 16:10 aspect ratio and OLED screen. Any chance you'll do a similar breakdown for 15.6-inch laptops? That would be incredibly helpful. What's your take on the ZenBook 15, especially with its 16:9 aspect ratio on the 15.6-inch screen?
Thanks for consistently delivering top-notch content; your mom would undoubtedly be proud! 😊
An excellent video, as always.
I'm not sure though why having a touch screen and being stylus enabled don't feature at all as pluses (or why not having them isn't a con). I understand that some people might find never use a touch screen, but quite a lot of people do. In my academic department most people have Macbooks because they have the impression they're the best laptops; but those people also have to have an expensive Remarkable tablet or something similar so they can annotate academic papers by hand, which we do a lot. (We also have to sign a lot of forms that don't allow e-signatures, and using a 360 is *so* much quicker than printing them, signing them, and scanning them.)
Other academics are often shocked to see that having a 360, I don't need to spend the extra money, to buy a tablet, don't have to always carry two devices around, and don't have problems syncing my annotated documents - a lot of people don't have 360s or stylus enabled computers just because they don't know they exist. I think that tech reviewers tend to not care about touch and stylus contributes to that, but I don't think there's a good reason for it.
Again, I understand not everyone needs or wants touch and stylus capabilities, but that goes for most laptop features you talk about.
I've noticed that as well - all the professors I work with have a MacBook and an iPad, not realizing that they could have some sort of 360 device and be able to do both at once.
@JosephJ360 that's fair, but I was more saying that a lot of people didn't know the option existed, since they're stuck in the Apple ecosystem
I was thinking about getting a hp envy x360 for this exact reason
Those US prices are so depressing when you live in germany...
I appreciate your reviews
I have the Lenovo X1 14 inch, 13th Gen i7. A bit warm to the touch but overall better performance so far compared to the dross from HP that was my previous laptop.
I've got my m3 pro 14 (my first apple device) one or 2 weeks ago.... im a computer science student and although I might need to virtualize/emulate an x64 linux os sometimes, which is kinda annoying, I truly love it. I'm a lifetime windows user, and switched to linux 2 years ago. this year I wanted to test the MacBook in first person and oh my, I indeed recommend it!
I no more carry the charger around! I've never heard the fans spin, no joke, not even while playing lol. what they say about this laptop is TRUE!
I do not understand why some people hate it so much... coming from windows and linux, I do see more than one flaw, like gaming is extremely limited, macOS lacks of some basic features like tiling, or the sound mixer... I've spent an hour or so just to create a keyboard shortcut that creates a new file in the current active folder and let me choose the name of it. a feature so basic that it's almost embarrassing to not have on a 3k laptop out of the box... BUT, at last I managed to find a solution to (almost) everything... I'm so happy with my purchase, im sure you will be too! next order: iPhone 15 plus
I could never waste so much money
How would you compare the apple environment to Windows? I use a bunch of cracked software for video editing, excel and music producing and I am indecisive between a Macbook air M2 or some windows based laptop, which one would you pick?
I will be waiting impatiently for the Framework 16 to get a hold of the supplier for the mini-LED display from the Slim Pro 9!
great job my G! honest list with no audience capture.
You are one of my favourite laptop reviewers. I really enjoy your content.
Jarrod did his tier ranking of laptops he reviewed this year and he ranked the Legion slim 7i at B tier and you ranked the slim 7 at 2nd best. Quite intriguing.
I think Jarrod focuses more on the gaming side of laptops, whereas Josh is more focused on productivity and college
I also said it could easily be an A 😎 the list is also somewhat skewed towards my own preference. I probably should have just put it in A, kind of felt like I was already very lenovo heavy at the top haha
@@JarrodsTech first, thank you for responding. This is one of the highlights of my 2023.
Second, Lenovo does a lot of fantastic laptops and I definitely understand. Excellent content from your channel and keep up the amazing work.
Looking forward to the gaming laptop awards for 2023.
Amazing video!!
Would you rather go for a Macbook Pro M2 Pro or M3? (both with 16gb of ram)
Stumbled on first video of yours, subscribed the moment shaw the spreadsheet, thanks for your content.
I'm glad the AMD Framework made it into the list. I honestly prefer something that is serviceable & upgradable compared to other laptops & especially MacBooks.
I really love that you didn't have a computer manufacturer as your sponsor and that you took that into consideration for the unbiased experience for someone who does not enjoy reviews about products when the manufacturer sponges the video. I really really appreciate the effort, detail, and time you put into your videos
He gets money when you use his links
Watching proudly from the Macbook Pro 14 (M1 Pro) lol, it was my dream laptop when it launched and I was finally able to get it after months of saving . Nice to see the lineup holding up
Yeah same. I flippin love mine and I bought it hoping it would be the laptop that lasts me 7 or more years (like I did with my 2011 MBP). I believe it will.
I’ve been using one for over a year now and I haven’t loved using a laptop this much since I was a kid. It’s just been productivity bliss compared to the Intel based laptops I’ve used in the past. I’m probably never going to use an x86-based laptop ever again after how great my Apple Silicon experience has been and continues to be.
@@NN010How would you compare the apple environment to Windows? I use a bunch of cracked software for video editing, excel and music producing and I am indecisive between a Macbook air M2 or some windows based laptop, which one would you pick?
You regularly make “Best of” videos. Could you please make a “The Quietest Laptop” video at some point if that’s interesting for your channel?
This would be VERY useful for me (and I guess others too).
I'm still looking for a laptop that is powerful for photo and light video editing (fan noise okay) but also dead quiet when I browse the web or watch youtube (I know, there's the Macbook Air but I don't want an Apple device).
I love my AMD-based Framework 13. I don't know how it doesn't "feel premium" with its aluminum top and bottom covers as well as aluminum surrounding the keyboard and trackpad. It is incredibly thin, especially for being user-upgradable. Two other features I like about its screen: 1. It has a 3:2 ratio instead of the typical widescreen displays. When I watch videos, I can mouse down to the controls (stop, pause, ffwd, rev, etc.) without them overlaying the video. 2. Its screen has a matte finish. No reflections. Excellent.
What I hate about the Framework is the design, if only they design it to look like Asus g14 from 2022 or 2023, or the newer design 2024 similar to the razer blade, then I would have absolutely support it. Right now, It is some of the hideous looking laptop I have seen.
Yayaloy9 Actually, I think the design of the Framework 13 looks a lot like the previous-generation Macbook Air. It tapers front to back. The keyboard has separated black keys inset into a silver aluminum frame, which I like better than current Macbooks. The screen bezel is a bit large, but you can select different colors if you want. The back of the screen even has the Framework logo where the Apple logo would be. Sure, it is not as light or slim as even the last-gen. Macbook Air. But it does not look bad at all. And the upgradeability beats every other laptop out there.
U r a great man.. Thanks for brief explanation and good reviews
got my macbook pro 14, in m3 pro. Its brilliant. cant agree more with the list
Could you review the best 2 in 1 laptops please?
Hi Josh, unrelated to the video, but what external SSD would you recommend? I'm using MacBook Air M1 base specs, and will use SSD for backup for photos and videos only.
Hi, In AU, they don't provide the mini LED version of the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i. Do you recommend to buy the IPS panel version? Thx
Great guidance. Thank you
this was a great video thanks josh
Thanks Josh for the great work and advise. Can you review HP elite laptops and business laptops?
Maybe, right now we are completely overwhelmed with consumer focused devices. We did get an Elitebook in last year and liked it. Never got around to reviewing it though
Great video as always. How about Asus Zenbook S 13 oled 2023?
Did you run by chance some battery test for the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i 14? The test I did using continuous video playback at 50% brightness resulted in 5.5 hours. Not impressive.
Hey thanks for the video, I'm considering buying an Asus Zenbook 14", but I was also considering a Dell Inspiron 16 2 in 1 laptop which has very similar specs, Could you help find found if the Dell laptop is at the same level of Asus Zenbook 14" ?
Excellent video, kudos. Maybe next year you can add Linux laptops as well? It would be really cool to have more choice.
*Framework making it into top 10 is huge. They just need to clear out those cons and make it more affordable and it would be gamechanger.*
You put the Lenovo Slim (Yoga) Pro 9i 14 and 16 inches in the same spot. Yet, you put the Mackbook Pro 16 and 14 in two different spots? When they are the same laptop.
You're the best laptop reviewer on CZcams. You deserve way more subscribers. I hope you'll reach a million subscribers soon. Thanks for making such great videos.
Hello Josh,
May I know what you would pick up when you have to choose between 16 inch MacBook Pro m2 vs 14 inch MacBook Pro m3 pro
I want a touchscreen. Any suggestions?
After using a touchscreen for a month is just so much quicker and comfortable. Not going back.
Great video - I would have put the Asus X13 and X16 on this list near the top.
This channel by far my favorite when it comes to tech. I'm starting college next year and I would like to know what is the best laptop for programming and comes with a minimum of 2 year longevity under $900?
I'd get the Zenbook 14x. Check our links. It isn't on sale right now but regularly goes on sale
Thx for insight. Will do. @@JustJoshTech
First off thank you so much for your reviews. I was wondering if you considered the samsung galaxy books and if so what left them out?
Thanks @JustJoshTech, I appreciate very much your reviews. Following your reviews, I got a Macbook M2 pro due to the wider memory bandwith and could save around $1000, now I'm about to buy a Windows (Easier for Excel) using your review again. So re-watching it! Keep up the good work!
Hi Josh, just planning to buy M3pro. Shall I go with 18gb ram or 36gb ram. Which is the best ?
If it’s only about performance, Ofc you’ll get the 16”
But 14” is so much lighter and it’s worth the compromises to run it a bit slower.
It’s a miracle how fast a M3 max mbp14 can go!
Josh I need help on what laptop to get lmao, I'm so conflicted
I know you can't fit everything but a main con of the MBA is the lack of a high refresh rate option. One pro you may have missed (or skipped due to space/time constraints) is you get better 'integrated' graphics with M2 than any other thin and light laptop without dedicated graphics (its fanless design with no corresponding noise may have been worth a mention, but that can be a pro or con, depending on how you look at it, so I understand why you may not have mentioned that point).
How would you compare the apple environment to Windows? I use a bunch of cracked software for video editing, excel and music producing and I am indecisive between a Macbook air M2 or some windows based laptop, which one would you pick?
you have the best commentary on this platform hands down . most entertaining and most wholesome
Hey that's a very nice picture you have framed on the wall, is it available somewhere on the internet? Also great video
Surprised XPS didn't make the list, must be price and that so many other companies have improved their keyboards and trackpads. Lenovo seems to be killing it, I'm going to look at their lineup more closely
why that laptop has sht battery life
I absolutely hate my XPS
@christianpihlhansen4820 same. I had to spend 3k after on the Asus zen book pro duo 15. So much better.
@@Mysteryboy0007 I settled on Zenbook Pro 14 OLED, very happy.

I have been planning to upgrade to a M3 Pro 14-inch MacBook Pro for a long time now and this video affirmed my decision. I do video and photo editing, graphics design, and programming, along with some casual music production in Logic Pro. I am wondering which configuration should I get. I watched your video on MacBook RAM and I am struggling between 18 and 36GB of RAM. I am also skeptical if I should get the unbinned 12-core version of the chip.
Hi Josh, I bought a Lenovo Legion S7 gen 7 (i5-12500H and 3050ti 4GB model) laptop based on your recommendation :) and I'm very satisfied. Considering that I only use the laptop for programming and college purposes, that is, I don't play games, I'm interested in your opinion on whether I can use the Lenovo 65w usb-c charger all the time. For now, I'm using the charger that came with the laptop (because I haven't bought the 65w one yet), although it irritates me because it's really big (230w charger). Will it harm the laptop (whether it's the battery or the components in general) if I constantly use a 65w charger?
Of course, if I ever think of playing games, I will certainly use the original 230w charger.
Do you have any other suggestions I could use? Maybe some other charger such as 100w, but which model?
PS I love your content, I look forward to every video and I'm grateful that there is someone like you, keep it up!
I also got a 3050ti model, g15 strix, for the same purposes but man i tried gaming on it, it really sucks how this cards vram throttles down the performance so much. You should have atleast got a 3060 now that u were spending money on it. Also u can use the type C if you aren't doing CPU GPU intensive power hungry tasks, not just gaming.
A1!
Josh, thanks for your reviews! Very well presented and organized!
Great video . Appreciated
Any thoughts on the Asus Zenbook 14 Flip? I'm interested in it and would like to hear your thoughts on it
You may want to verify the HDMI port speed difference on the two versions of the 9i. According to the Lenovo website, even though the 14" has 2.1, it is limited to 12GB/s. Which is slower than HDMI 2.0's maximum speed of 18 GB/s. I don't 100% know what the result of this is, but it's worth looking into.
hey man!
i just have a quick Q:
im thinking about bying a small laptop to my living room so i can just plug it to the new Samsung TV i just bought.
do you have any recommendations for a laptop that have 4K hdmi input?
thanks! :)
dear Josh thanks to you I will unsubscribe from all other tech reviewers .thank you for great work you're doing and yes I got 14 pro and never looked back, keep shining on CZcams
Great video, got a legion slim 7.
I'm looking also for a 14 inch windows laptop as a replacement of a macbook pro with m2 pro, what would you suggest?
intel or amd ?
@lucatpietro7437 I am thinking about buying a macbook to replace my Asus Windows computer, but I really don't like the glossy screen. May I ask why are you going back to windows laptop?
I had a Dell from 2008 that lasted over 15 years, the only thing that went bad on it a few times was the removeable battery which was easy to replace on ebay lol.
@JustJoshTech, I really like your channel. Can you do a review of the best lightweight laptops, less than 3.2 pounds (LG laptops, for example)? If so, it would be helpful. Thanks!
having a laptop with native linux support on here is really nice. still hope everything works fine on the zenbook because it sounds really good to me
Have you checked out the Lenovo ThinkBook 16p Gen4? Looks very close to the Legion Slim 7 but with a few different options (and no soldered RAM).
I’m looking to go back to school/certifications for coding/cyber security but want to have flexibility for gaming as well (nothing too high end I don’t think). I am stuck between the Asus G14 (AMD 9 7940HS/RTX 4060)
and Zenbook 14X (i7-13700H/2.8K OLED) 16gb/512gb SSD for both. Which would you recommend?
i couldn't catch your stream Josh
can you helping me decide between two laptops with similar price?
one is Asus rog strix g15 2022(6800h rtx 3070ti with 2k display)
other is Asus rog strix g16 2023 (13650hx rtx 4060 with fhd display)
What about LG Gram? What position would it be for a top 50 laptop recommendation? 20-ish? 40-ish?
What I really want is a laptop with the battery life, build quality, nice trackpad, low fan noise and low temps like a silicon Macbook but also be able to play games if I want to. 😅
The only laptop remotely close to that in 2024 is the Omen Transcend 14 (it does underpower it's gpu to do that) or the 16inch Yoga Pro 9i for 2024
Excelent video 👍
What would you sugest to buy, refurbished Lenovo Tinkpad P53 or something new (i7, 16Gb RAM) for same price of 850 dolars ?
I plan to use this new laptop as main computer in house, for Autocad, Office and all other usual home and business stuff...
This is SO helpful!!! SUBSCRIBED!
Would you recommend a ASUS ZenBook 14" with: 5 7530U/512GB/16ram? I'm a student and do use larger programs: 3D anatomy apps, photoshop, PDF rending to readable text.
Could you tell me when one you would prefer between ASUS-ROG strix 18 or Alienware m18 both same price 2k but minor differences, I can’t decide 😢
Any suggestions on deciding between Lenovo legion slim pro 7 or the yoga pro 9i? I also liked the asus strip gaming laptop.
What do you think of the Microsoft Surface Studio Laptop 2?
MacBook Pro M2 good for streaming?
Cool review :) Is it better to choose rtx4060 or 4070 with i9 intel?
I got the Legion Slim 7i but unfortunately it would randomly stop charging when plugged in, switch to SDR, run on battery. I ended up getting the Zenbook 14x for $700.
Hi Josh. Amazing video as always. I was wondering what you would recommend between Asus M16 4070 and Slim 7i 4070. M16 is currently on sale for 1500 dollars while Slim 7i 4070 with the upgraded display is 1932 dollars. Do you believe the 431 extra dollars is worth the Slim 7i? Love your channel and your amazing info
M16 with miniled or ips?

I hope Josh if you can link the stand you use to put the laptops on in your videos.
I could be wrong. Didn't your earlier video recommend the zenbook 14x over the 14? Why the 14 ranked higher here? Thank you in advance.
Same question!
Would be nice to have an answer, Josh. Thanks.
He answered this in another comment. The 14 was ranked higher here because of its better battery life
surprised zephyrus g14 isnt on the list, the 2023 model with rtx4060/ryzen 7940hs goes on sale for 1200$
Great video!
Yeah but we still can't seem to get as good as this other CZcamsr who focuses on Gaming Laptops. What's up with that?
@@JustJoshTech Don't cut yourself short. You both my favorite laptop reviewers
I’ve owned a MacBook Air M2 *13”* base model for about a year now….and based on that experience, the only real difference between it and the 15” model is the screen size - I use mine for basic html/css coding, a bit of Photoshop and I’ve recently started doing some super light and basic video-editing in iMovie….and the 8gb Ram have seemingly never had any issues handling that kind of workload. Plus, these days you can find the Air M2 13” at around 1000€/$, so it’s a way better bang for the buck than its 15” counterpart (or some Asus Zenbook 14 models).
Hi Josh, do you still recommend getting M1 Pro version for some spreadsheet works and content consumption? And for the same price ($1580) in my country, should I get the 16 inch instead of the 14?
It's great for that
Thoughts on the ASUS ZenBook Pro 14? £1950 right now on Amazon for the 4070 version which seems to be a great price
Any thoughts on something light at 15.6" screen size?? all these are quite heavy. Looking for something for my wife
Hi, can you recommend any Dell laptop series? Is Dell dead?
Great video. It's a pity that its really difficult to find the 14in Yoga Pro 9i in the UK.
We will have more recommendations this year
Josh, one of the largest lens in analyzing laptops. You cover almost everything, except I would like to see a category for customer service. It's significant when making a purchase.
I hope we get to see more AMD configurations next year. Frustrating how OEM's are still sticking with intel despite their poor lack of progress. 12th gen Alder Lake has literally been the only significant architectural update since 6th gen Skylake. Early rumours are suggesting that meteor lake is going to be a dud too...(more efficient at lower TDP's but very little performance improvement)
Love not hate bud..
Intel doesn't need more performance, the performance (especially single core) is great. Their poor efficiency however is why I'd not buy an Intel laptop right now. If the next gen is same performance but matches AMD efficiency would actually be great for laptops.
@@TheQxY I understand your point. But the idea with improving efficiency is to improve performance per watt so that there's more scope to push clock speeds within a given power draw. But this isn't happening with meteor lake, it isn't more efficient when it's being pushed, only when it's in a low power state.
Sure, that will be a benefit for casual users who want to use their laptop on the go, but it doesn't bring anything new to the table when it comes to outright performance.
AMD, on the other hand, is benefiting from improved efficiency across the entire TDP range. This means that they don't have to use extra E cores to make up the lost ground.
Excellent video. THANK YOU 👍
What is the best laptop if I need it to also have a lot of storage space? I'm talking 2TB or more if none come with this much then a laptop which has slots available for internal drives.
Great comparisson, thanks
