Workshop 001 Door Destruction

- Step one in the construction of my new shop was to get to a point that I can secure the inside from weather and theft. No space is worth a darn if the stuff you put inside it gets wet or walks away. So, the doors were a priority. I looked up materials like metal and plywood and the costs were outrageous! Designing something from junk I had laying around crossed my mind, but at some point, this trailer might find itself rolling down the public roads and I did not want it to appear like it was a pile of trash, slapped together. Nor did I want to compromise the safety of others that could be hurt if something were to give way and fall into traffic. Thus, the doors were going to be built in such a manner as to appear, and operate as if they were a stock part of the trailer. That meant building from new, strong materials. The cement board was heavy but cheaper then wood. And the nearby lumber yard I went to did not carry plywood. So, rather then drive to another location, I let fate determine the material for me. The weight of the doors did not concern me anyway, because the rollup door was Heavy! And with it's removal, including all the the metal that made it work, the difference the new doors would make would be negligible.

Marty, I can’t tell you how much I have missed your project videos. I watched all of your previous ones from building docks, boats, Kayaks, jet boats, K-T etc… your creativity and knowledge are inspirational. I can’t wait to see the progression of your new workshop!
Agreed. As a craftsman myself, I enjoy watching others with similar skills. I even learn something now and then.
Project videos are Marty's best videos...
Marty is the DIY King. From his first red Kayak, that got me hooked into kayak fishing. I know this will be a unique build. Especially with your magic touch Marty! 💯 😎
Its gonna get wicked hot in there - a roof-top vent fan would go a long way!
That will be nice, Marty. As an old field tech, I missed not having a service truck as the business grew and I came off the road to run the office. So I built a smaller version of that, a 6x10 trailer. I put a deep cycle battery on the tongue and use it to run an inverter and charge powertool batteries, and also to run LED lights inside. Sounds like you'll take that a step further and use solar panels; that will be great! You're doing the right thing by going with barn doors; roll up doors are a PITA. You might also want to consider a window unit A/C or PTAC unit to keep you comfy while working in there. If you can plug it into "shore power", I would suggest wiring it for that. I keep my trailer plugged in while at home, so the battery charges and I charge the tool batteries from that instead of the inverter. I even put a sound system in mine, but I'm weird that way.
Watching your build with much anticipation!
I look forward to seeing all the progress!!!!
I think you definitely deserve a beer after that. Thanks for the video and I look forward to seeing the progress.
Looking forward to see the progress and finished project...
Nice one Marty! That sure is a useful trailer. Really looking forward to this series, I've already got part 2 waiting, so off to watch that now.
Stay safe & well. 👍👍
This is what i subscribed for, to see you build stuff and to do it in your own style. don't get me wrong i love the kayak and boat videos too. But this series is going to be good.
Love your videos, awesome new project, i would build half steps and the other half a ramp👍🏼..... Good luck, we'll keep watching your progress
something I noticed - that huge trailer with beefy framework, only has a single axle. A very light duty axle at that. This trailer used to be a dual axle. Hoping you don't plan to make this a mobile trailer once this is full of supplies. You will be sadly disappointed. Might verify my suspicions. Love your channel. Looking forward the trailer build-out!
Nice to see you back with a new project. This will be a fun project to follow, plenty of height in that trailer for both workbench and some storage higher up.
This is going to be great, love your projects. You seem to think things out before you start. That is half the fun, I do the same. I'm excited. John SF.
This is what the people want Marty
Great project. Recycle the old doors on shelving or as end caps for new shelving!
Those are some nifty work books you have on 🤣 Can't wait to see more of the storage build.
I too am excited to see you doing a new project, this is gonna be fun!! Thanks for sharing.
Looking good so far Marty. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Marty I live in a 55 and over community where there's over 1000 units and every Thursday is trash day where people throw out stuff from their units and it's amazing how much really good construction material they throw out sometimes it's new also there's furniture and other items that can be reused if you have any communities like that in your area you might be able to get some good construction material for just the cost of your gasoline
A man must work to feel complete, so you're a complete man now...keep up the reconstruction of your dream rolling shop.👣
I always enjoy watching your engineering skills.
Thanks for sharing,
Man once you started you really got fast at it 😂😂
Love this ... I'll be watching
Put some temporary benches in there while you build so you can find the best configuration as you go.
Can't wait to see what you come up with
Gooooo Marty!
That was neat talking down
maybe you could look at putting gridwall on the walls. More versatile than pegboard, easier to hang and looks way better!
Been waiting for him to get back at for so long
Love the DIY vids excited to see how this turns out!!
Man, you made that very difficult and dangerous. Garage doors should be assembled and disassembled in the down position.
The overhead door blocks half the light, when in the up position too.
You have such a likeable quality about yourself. What's your secret - meditation? Yoga? Xanax? Zen Buddhism?🤣
Good stuff
Cool, Marty
do some combo videos. build, then fish
A new project is just what the doctor ordered?
Love this idea. It will be fun to watch it change.
You're taking those door panels off the very hard way. They are taken off with the door rolled down, and the hinge pins pushed out
Just to tel you that the door is built vertically and should be disassembled such. I’m too late
Looks like everyone rather see you working than fishing 😂😂😂😂 Something not right.
Why not remove the wheels and lower the whole thing onto concrete blocks? You can always jack it back up and replace the tires. (Not sure about your local regulations.)
Yeah, solar panels and insulation, otherwise it'll be hot in there this summer
👍😎
🖐😎👍
Why dont u remove the body off the frame? It will be much easier to get stuff in and out of if its on ground level?
Because Marty said in the last video, he wants to retain the ability to take it to a job site or different location.
Let me know if you need a hand I will come help
Gotta love the zofffenger way of doing anything. Lol.
