An artist once told me to get a henna tattoo before a real one. If you find yourself covering it up or trying to hide it, including for a job, you might not be ready for a tattoo or you may need to consider a new placement. Best advice I received.

For the life of me, Ive never understood how someone could walk into a shop and pick one of the generic tattoos off the wall, on the fly and feel good about that. Maybe I over think everything but I get my design, pick a placement and carry the picture with me for a year folded up in my wallet and look at it to make sure my excitement about it is building before I'll get it done, never regretted one yet.

This isnt related to this video but i wanted to say that u have been a great inspiration to me as a fellow female artist. When i first started doing cover ups i would always take the easy route and use simple and obvious things that i would use to cover things up and i was never truly happy with them even if my clients were, (fast forward some years), now ive been tattooing 10+ years and i never use the obvious anymore i really like to push the limits of what can be done and im constantly experimenting but i always think outside the box now when it comes to cover ups and i really feel like seeing your work helped me expand and grow as a tattoo artist and now i feel like im happier with my cover ups and my clients are amazed at what can be used to hide their old tattoos. U are amazing. One day i would love to have a piece from u if i can plan a trip to Norway. Cheers 😊💪💖

I'm really big into symbolism, so I put a lot of thought into my tats before getting them. I choose the design, the color's, the culture, and placement due to what I want my tattoo to symbolize( even if I'm the only one who knows the entirety of the meaning). I don't regret any of my tattoo's because they all truly mean something to me even if they do need some retouching. My BFF though will just get whatever tattooed by whomever on a whim. We have 4 matching tattoo's which I made her go to a professional shop every time, and she tells everyone that's usually the only time because I'm too picky🤣. I always respond absolutely it's going to be there forever so.

  • @pandastrat
    @pandastrat Před 6 lety +54

Yes!! Totally agree on asking artists to copy tattoos of other people. And well.. If my artist is willing to copy from others’ designs I won’t trust them.. what tells me that they won’t “reuse” an idea of an original design of mine for someone else? I know it sounds selfish and egocentric, but unless it’s a flash tattoo(like a nautical star, for example), I really wouldn’t appreciate the thought of someone else going around with my same subject tattooed on their body, especially if that meant a lot to me on an emotional or artistic level.

  • @av4536
    @av4536 Před 6 lety +30

    agree 100%.
trending tattoos have been nothing but detrimental to the value of the tattoo art community. The artists who create the original never get the credit that is due, and it is a really sad to watch talent be wasted on the demands that trending tattoos create. references should be inspiration, not a duplication!
but, this current generation of client base definitely don't see it that way about the art.
We have become a part of a world where everyone values likes and views.
its a bit of a bummer

I once saw a guy, he had a tattoo like Dwayne Johnson. The tattoo he has on his left side of the chest going up to his arm. So I asked the guy ''okay, nice. But what does it mean?'' then he said ''ohh, nothing special, I just liked the tattoo''.
But I remember than Dwayne Johnson once told the world, that his tattoo means something to him, about family, protecting his family, and having a agressive warrior spirit. His tattoo, in fact, is very personal, and very spiritual. I remember that it has even a deeper meaning than only that, And the dude just copied it :') Like, WTH?! I always say ''a tattoo is almost as personal as your weener! You have yours, don't copy shit. Just, don't do it. Especially not, tattoos like the one Dwayne Johnson has. It's with a beautiful meaning, and the style is awesome. You can get one like that. But ''like that'' is just one, with your own story in it. Not with Dwayne's story. That ain't your story.

I personally love small tattoos. Both of my tattoos are small, and the other tattoos I’m considering/planning on are small as well. I really love simple and minimalistic tattoos. I don’t care if other people can see my tattoos or if it’s too small to see from afar, since the tattoo is for myself and myself only. Not saying big tattoos aren’t cool- they look awesome. I’m just saying that bigger and more detailed isn’t necessarily better!

hello!!! i’m a new subscriber of yours & i just wanted to stop by and say that i totally agree with you. my artist is so great. she told me she will NEVER copy anyone’s work but use it as an inspiration piece, and make it to fit your specific taste and style. she does anything you could possibly imagine and she does it well. i’ve never met someone who acts like a mom in a tattoo artist ever. she has done all of my tattoos and she is just the best artist i’ve ever seen. after care is super important because tattoos aren’t a joke they’ll stay on your body for the rest of your life and if you decide to not take care of it then you face the consequences of having a nasty looking tattoo. my artist did recommend something to me and i wanted to maybe share it with you guys. but she told me it’s gross but she told me to try hemorrhage cream or ointment. she said it works just as well as the lotions you’re recommended for after care. and she said that it heals up faster since it’s not as thick as your normal after care lotions.

I think that as we are getting older and wiser we are forgetting the mistakes that made us better in our job. You have to fell from the bike so you can learn how to ride it. I respect your work and your channel.
Keep up the good work and stay humble.
    :).

Welp getting my first tattoo today! I really like your videos and can def. agree with thinking about picking the right artist and thinking about a design, style etc. I was thinking about wanting a tattoo back when I was 16. I’m 29 now and only getting my first one only now. And I’m glad I waited and did not get anything when I was that young because I really would’ve gone for something overly done where as now I’m getting a piece of art personal to me 😊.

I know it's a bit late for me to comment, but i hope you see it, i have a pink rose on the back on my hand, i love it so much and when i was picking the artist, i made sure to pick someone who is great at doing those kind of tattoos, i don't have a sleeve but i also have a lettering, a poem by myself on the inner arm, i am going to make it slowly into a sleeve and yes, i almost forgot, i got it in the beginning of june, "last year" and i made sure to keep it out of the sun while it was healing, i actually love taking care of the tattoos, don't love the itching that much but it's just what happens and a good thing, it's a sign it's healing correctly, i hate when people get tattooed and think they could just go swimming and lay in hot tubs afterwards, i think people should know before hand what they are getting themselves into before getting a tattoo, sorry for the long comment, i really enjoy your channel and you are an AMAZING artist, i am in awe seeing your work, i would be honored to be tattooed by you :)

I'm planning on getting a lot of very beautiful tattoo's, all minimalist (I think) styled. I'm planning on getting a star and moon over both my ankles, I've designed and thought about a pretty shoulder tattoo and a geometric pattern going all down my arm. I'm buying a bunch of Henna soon to test them all out, but I've drawn some on with just gel pen and I love the style already, I'm super excited. I considered all your tips and they made me even more sure that they will turn out exactly how I want them to :)

I remember when I had to talk to the owner of the studio for like 10 minutes because he kept wanting to change my mind about my hand tattoo, it wasn't even him doing it in the end!
Tbh at that point I only had one tattoo (ankle) and it was actually pretty impulsive, he was a cool guy that was just worried about me and I can respect that. This happened in 2017 and I still love that tattoo so much, I also shortly after got a similar one on my other hand to make it more matchy!

Just recently came upon your site.
    Like your opinions.
My main tattoo artist is great. Funny as she went to school with my son.
Her suggestions are always great and she tries to blend them together. I started 40 years ago a bit later in life. Did military career so a lot of military themed ( 11 names of lost) and motorcycle themed.
Find it odd that at 69 have one day a month booked with her. She has health problems so cancels at times
Travel the world and started getting some in different countries ( only one bad as she overworked the skin)
As you can tell, tattoos are a passion. When take shirt off, get a lot of looks, but also compliments.
    Take care

I'd say that if it a visible tattoo and it is just words be prepared for answering things like "What does it say?" or "What does it mean?" ect. I saw a girl once and she had writing tattooed on her chest in a font that took longer than a glance to read. So instead of a long uncomfortable look at her chest to read it, I asked "What does it say?" She told me it was a song lyric. But I noted in her voice that she was kinda tired of people asking. I was just being nice. And thought that because it was visible that maybe it was something she was willing to share.

I have a lot of tattoos I want for sentimental meaning, I’m from England so I have to wait till I’m 18 which is awesome so I have time to make sure I’m 100% sure I want. Watching your videos is really helpful and inspiring ♥️♥️

    Two small questions :) :
How/where do you look for a good tattoo artist?
And if you come up with your own design to an artist, is that okay?

If you have a lot of artists in your area go to every one of them see how the shop is CLean is a tattoo artist friendly. Check out their books with their tattoo pictures that they've done. It may take you a couple of months to try different shops out but it's well worth it. Recommendations from other people that have nice tattoos.

This is why I drew parts of mine and most was freehand. Obviously I had a real artists make what I drew better than what I can do but looks like a good version of what I did.
