You can tell how much lighter the cars were back then, darting around like houseflies, that's one of the main things I miss, made it look so much faster.
That and the fact those cars are way smaller which really gives it that effect
And they looked so hard to drive, every single lap was at the absolute limit and even tiny mistakes were punished.
I find it so enjoyable to watch these 2003 cars just go around the track, even without overtaking.
Compare that to those ocean tankers on rails we got today and it just doesn't seem as right as it does here.
I know that the racing in the 2000s was bad and that there are things that we can't/shouldn't change back. (Refuelling, safety measures, ...) But there has got to be a way to make the cars smaller, more nimble and harder to drive without compromising safety.
@@ludwigrohrig And people back then were moaning that the cars were too easy to drive due to all the electronic help. Usual nostalgic complaints.
@@dez8685 - I see your point and I know it always is a matter of nostalgia. But just looking at 2000s onboards and comparing them to the current ones is a huge difference imo.
I think making the cars a bit harder to drive would benefit the sport massively. These cars have too much downforce imo, we barely have any high speed corners that aren't flat-out...
@@ludwigrohrig Indycar went for less downforce, harder to drive cars one or two years ago and I would say, even though racing has not always been super close, that it has been more exciting to watch. Those cars can actually race and pass on street courses.
Curiosity: there were two times when a lunatic just go on the track in the history of F1, it happened in Germany 2000 and Silverstone 2003, both races won by Rubens Barrichello.
There was a third one: 2015 Singapore Grand Prix. Vettel won (again, a Ferrari)
You could think Barrichello hired them xd
What was it written on the lunatic's poster?

El BonitiilloO That happened in Germany 2000, this was a priest.
Considering Coulthard is the one that gained advantage after being last because pitting for a new headrest, I would say it's McLaren strategist that came with this idea....
Back when the had good strategists :D
XD
These cars were 2/3 sec slower than nowadays cars, but in my mind they will always seem and be faster
That noise is everything 😍
they were in fact faster on straights, but the electric engine in modern cars allows for a greater acceleration, and nowadays' knowledge of aerodynamics allow for greater downforce on corners
@@saranoxxis i know, but if a person does not know these things he would think that those cars were faster
It is because they are smaller and lighter they look more dynamic. One of the biggest criticisms by the drivers of today is that the cars are too big and too heavy and therefor sluggish.
2004 cars would be as fast as new ones if they had the thing they are having now, drs, slicks... etc
@@celador14 F2004 with DRS and 2018 Hypersoft/2019 C5 tires? That should be the fastest death machine in the world
McLaren Kimi was just an insane beast. Such a shame the car was so unreliable.

@@teppana4421 Totally wrong. Kimi had major setup issues in 2008 and first half of 2007.

This was Rubens Barrichello’s best performance in Formula 1, he really showcased his great talent! Was a mad race as well, the most exciting race you guys have streamed thus far 👏🏼
@Samuel Santos I think that Germany 2000 is Rubens’ greatest performance
@@thedude8248 By far his greatest and one of the greatest in F1
The Dude824 Germany 2000 was great, but I feel this win had more merit to it than the one in Germany. At Silverstone 2003, there was no one on track who was quicker than Rubens. Rubens himself considers this one his best win. Either way, both were spectacular performances
Let's hope Carlos isn't treated like rubens
The most exciting race that F1 has streamed since the beginning of the pandemic is the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.
Allen and Brundle, old Silverstone, and engines that'd take your eardrums out at 200yds. Those were the days.
I was actually there for this one, seven years old at my first F1 race. Happy memories, and seeing a Ferrari win (as a stepping stone to becoming a life-long Scuderia fan, was immensely special)
lucky boi. I still havent watched my first race. Sucks it wont be the v10 when I go.
Did you say hi to the lunatic
Damn Rubens was on fire that day
When the car suited him, you could see what he could do.
The livery's were so nice back then. Simple colors, easy to reconize, brighter colors. Ferrari beautiful red and the white also looks better than current black.
You can see ghe tobacco brands have been removed from the cars to make the colours seem even more recognisible!
Ehh... honestly, 2019 Ferrari is pretty much my favorite livery, the black makes it seem more aggressive, the red and white combi kinda reminds me of medical cars
Toyota’s livery is my favorite. Such an iconic livery
@@TheSpeederist pretty sure they were removed because they were not allowed for the British GP
@@TheSpeederist Had to be removed because cigarette advertising is illegal in the UK
2003 was an incredible season, purely because of how evenly matched the cars were, literally wheel to wheel racing from the front to the back of the grid every race.. for anyone who says Schumacher "dominated" his era I'd say 2000, 2001,2003 he really had competition
Yeah Schumi dominance era was boring only in 2002 and 2004.
Very well said. Mclaren and Williams were equaled if not better than Ferrari’s in those years. Mercedes was competeable just in 2017,2018 and 2021. 2014-2016 and 2019-2020 was 5 years of the biggest dominance in F1.
Barrichello had a lot of misfortunes in that season and he could had witnessed a three way title battle.
3:05 Barrichello at his finest. He deserved one championship for his career, what a driver 💪💪💪
With that Sound, it sounds like the Cars want that win more than the drivers lol
Kimi was just insane in his prime.
This car was nowhere compared to Williams and Ferrari, yet he nearly won the title this year.
He was driving over the limit at a lot of races. We all saw what happened when Montoya was Kimi's teammate.
2 points.
at that time montoya was so fat that he couldnt even fit in the car
Barrichello overtook him. Lol.
The McLaren had the best chassis that year. It was well in contention.
@@brolo7234 Not a chance. They had an updated 2002 car - Ferrari had the best chassis, Williams close to McLaren in terms of chassis, but overall the McLaren was far slower as a package, including Mercedes power. A distant third quickest car - flattered by the great Kimi Raikkonen of course. Coulthard was absolutely nowhere as was Paffett in testing.
Christian Horner in 2021: 'nobody has ever tried to overtake at the inside line of Copse corner'
Kimi back in 2003: 'let's do it twice'
He didn’t say that nobody tried and overtake at the inside of copse. He said that nobody sticks a wheel up the inside at copse. There’s a difference....
Kimi was well ahead here before the turn. Not behind and diving in from a hopeless position

3:46 "Formula 1, the motor racing where no one overtakes, yeah?"
The era was different, the complaints were the same. Nice bit of sarcasm by the commentator
Lol no. Formula 1 was always known for its lacking of overtaking compared to other motorsports because it concentrates more around strategy. The commentator wasnt complaining, he just stated what other motorsports fans think about F1 in general.
@@apophisRO I know the commentator wasn't complaining himself, but rather making fun of those who do. That's what I meant by "nice bit of sarcasm by the commentator"
These cars look and sound so much faster... Great to see Rubens on top :)
2004 cars actually are the fastest cars because after that they had to downsize the engines if I remember correctly
@@worldstar7241 I'm pretty sure the current cars are faster, but these care just look faster and I think that's because they are so much smaller and look more nimble
world star this season would've been the season of the fastest f1 cars in the history of the sport, even these beasts on modern day quali rules wouldnt be as quick
2004: More fuel & Refueling system make F1 Drivers pushing hard.
Nowadays: No refueling system make F1 Drivers managing their fuel.
So no wonder why the gap between Quali & Fastest lap was close in 2004.
Faster not just in the straights ..
Tracks had Faster Corner profiles, LESS MARBLES too.
Check out these corners starting at 5:35, DC ends up overtaking on the outside. Cars didn't stick merely to the pure racing line back then.. now it's all preserve as much as you can and therefore any marbles that do build up are not cleared, but are too large to the point they are detrimental to competitive racing these days
Raikonnen was so close to win the drivers world champion it was only 2 points between him and Schumacher

2003 was an absolute mad season. People talk about Ferrari dominance in the early zero’s but 2003 could’ve gone either way. Michael, Kimi and Juan were all in the mix, hell even Ralf was considered to have a chance after his double win at the European and French GP.

@@dtfootball14 That's why Martin Brundle is a legend. From alongside Murray Walker, then alongside James Allen, and now (since 2012) alongside David "Crofty" Croft.
I love this era.. even the number 2 drivers are also just as competitive on the podium. And there’s more than 3 teams who are equally a winning car.

2003 was a great season, you had like five or six guys with a fair chance at getting the title.
These cars man...Just pure art. Sound, look, raw power...This was F1 ...
Rubens said in an interveiw that he was in charge of most setup and tyre choices since he arrived at Ferrari, and in that particular weekend he noticed that a certain compound suited him better than Michael, so he made the call in favor of himself and it paid work. Ross Brawn found out about that later and since then things changed at Ferrari.

What a Race! No DRS, but so many overtakes, fighting everywhere. Nice one👍
Glory F1 years, back when it was a real sport. Real sounds, gorgeous designs, no drs, real F1 cars.
True atleast the cars were small
the sound of these car is amazing, one of my favourite years this expecially with the constructors involved
The frustrating thing about Barrichello is that he proved on days like this that he had a champion's pace in him, but he just never produced it on a consistent enough level.

This is 10 times more entertaining than F1 nowadays.
Variability in strategy and tyres and lighter cars and better tyres.

same as usual
difficult to overtake without DRS
You only remember the good races from this era. So many races were decided in the pits due to fuel levels.

Every lap was on 100% limit and the drivers looked like heros
