First thing I learned as a young Officer in the American Army was: Never screw with a soldier's mail, food, pay or family. And, never, ever, lie to them. Tell them the truth even if its ugly.
If your soldiers can't trust you, they won't following you.
You'd have found a welcome in my outfit(s). We all (US soldiers) can take bad news and roll with the punches. But lies could likely get you fragged.

People have actually been getting the dogs and cats and livestock out and to Poland, wherever they can, for two reasons, protection and prevention of substituting them as supplies. Right at the beginning there was a boy of about 12 who had big cage on the back of his bike, taking it full of chickens into Poland and he had 5 horses and a bunch of dogs following him the next day. He was just rounding up animals, and Polish girls were finding places they could stay. 😁✊ The girls were all protective, the boy was too but he said it was also bc the soldiers were not going to be fed as usual, and these animals were not going to help. Then I saw a story about 3 young conscripts walking up to a Ukrainian grandma, handing her their guns and basically, nicely, asking if she'd make them a sandwich and tell them where to surrender. They'd just gotten there. Their rations were gross and clearly nobody was nazi. They wandered off while others were sleeping. Svoboda Rossii (Legion Freedom for Russia) was online awhile back telling orcs Ukrainian food is much better and how nice it is to sleep in a bed & be treated like a human, and that if they freed Russia they'd all live better. Orcs were told it was forced, of course, but they didn't look captive.

Saw the story recently of a young russian from a province who got lured by the money. He signed up, got sent to Ukraine within a few days on little to no training and he was killed within a week His mother was stricken with grief and crying. This scene has already and will often repeat itself as long as putler is in power.
The interviews with Zolkin Volodymyr (English subtitles) has nearly every POW saying that he needed the money. As there was no work in his region, and his extended family needed supporting. Which is fine when there is no war. This is how Putin gets the conscripts to sign up for a contract. Keep the regions poor for cannon fodder.

If the casualty figures from Ukraine are accurate, the casualties on the Russian side are almost as high as American casualties in Vietnam from 1963-1975. That’s going to play merry hell with their morale, especially since it’s only been six months.

The West has already lost this proxy war. Just like they lost their proxy war in Syria. But they are like dogs and can't let go of the bone. How conveniently you forget that the West has been deliberately arming and funding the Nazi's in the Ukraine since the end of the 2nd World War. How conveniently you forget about the Maidan Affair and the CIA/NATO coup in 2014. How conveniently you forget about the SLAUGHTER of 14 000 innocent civilians in the Donbass and Donetsk region since 2015 by the Ukrainian military.
