Thrawn actually scares me a little bit. Very chilling voice and a menacing presence. Maybe that’s why I love him! A villain should be a little frightening but not always so wild and full of rage like Vader.
An old friend of mine is possibly the biggest Thrawn fan and such a purist that he wasn’t watching Clone Wars or Rebels… it had to have been fate that I first saw the season 3 trailer and then ran into him minutes later and shouted ‘Have you seen it??’ He had not. They're literally 22 minutes. He is featured heavily in most of the episodes in which he appears, and if you want to skip the non-Thrawn episodes you can just look up when he appears
The Thrawn scene where he killed mr sumar on the speeder may be slightly out of character for him as he isn’t one of those insane imperials but if I convince myself hard enough that he did it to send a clear message and save many of his soldier’s valuable lives in future in one move, I may be able to accept that. Overall rebels Thrawn is still goated I just have a slight problem with what I mentioned above.
It's in keeping with character. Thrawn rarely kills subordinates and when he does, he does so for a reason. He doesn't go rage mode like Vader. The speeder scene was him sending a message.
That particular scene is very similar to his first book in Heir to the Empire where he has a tractor beam operator killed on the bridge of the Chimera for letting a ship escape because the operator wasn't prepared for the trick the ship used to get away. The purpose of it being, that everyone else on the bridge studied their manuals/operating procedures so they wouldn't make a similar mistake. One of the better portrayals of him in my opinion from Rebels because overall I wasn't too impressed with how they handled him.
Legends is hodgepodge of contradictions and retcons. That horse needed to be taken out back and shot. I'm not saying it was bad, mind you (there certainly was a fair bit of crap; Crystal Star, Dark Empire, etc), but even certain amazing pieces of work like the Thrawn Trilogy don't fit into either of those timelines you proposed. Besides the whole point of naming the old canon Legends was to imply they were rooted in some sort of canon. If Disney did continue both timelines they'd be alienating a very large portion of the fan base from that content and make about 125% of what they're making now, at 200% the cost. Like it or not, you can't fault a company for making sound business decisions.
The people doing this show are not the same people who erased legends. Its obvious that they do their best to bring the best of legends to canon again.
Maniacal? Evil? The guy was being simultaneously racist and anti-intellectual. I have never related to a character so hard. No, his evil moment was more during his bombardments of Atallon and Lothal.
But it is irrelevant to use such high ranking military man for simple hunt for small pack of Rebels. In Legends he was busy to reconquer the Galaxy after establishing a secondary state (Empire of the hand) to the Empire. In Rebels he is so incompetent and was beaten by space whales. LAME END. NOTHING was paid off. But its just my opinion. No insults to others.
Well, these rebels did blow up Tarkin's Star Destroyer, so I'm sure that insult would warrant a major response. The Emperor's #1 guy just had his flagship exploded by these random peasants and their Jedi leader, so sending in the alien who has a good mind for warfare would have to do.
