Admiral Thrawn Is An Analytical Aesthete

  • This is a tribute video consisting of a compilation of scenes featuring an amazing villain from my memories, the methodical and artistically inclined Grand Admiral of the Galactic Empire, Grand Admiral Thrawn (voiced by Lars Mikkelsen) from the hit show Star Wars Rebels. He proved to be an exceptionally amazing villain strictly because of his behavior as a mixture of cold logic and psychological understanding that granted him perspectives needed to defeat his enemies on the strategic and emotional level. Hope you enjoy him!

      @@tayojones9460 While I don't disagree that Cad Bane is dangerous, Thrawn is a different kind of threat. Cad Bane is cunning and capable strategic mind (as evidenced by his ability to steal a holocron and coordinate 3 ships and even though all three ended up being destroyed he got what he wanted) but his best skill are his fighting skills which allowed him to fight and kill the best. Thrawn while a capable fighter almost never needed to show this skill but his strategies are extrodinary. They were only beaten by the force or deus ex machina level luck. To use a metaphor, in chess Cad Bane may be a queen (the most dangerous piece) but Thrawn is the player who controls all the pieces.

    1. He took on the entire new republic and was winning quite effectively!
    2. He is a absolute genius when it comes to strategy and tactics.
    3. His elegance and coldness make him fascinating.
    4. He genuinely only wants the best for his troops and men and is willing to admit when he is wrong and listen to them.
    5. His fascination with art and linking it to a culture's philosophy and tradition is what I think as well!
    6. He is apart of the FAR SUPERIOR Expanded Universe.

    The way Thrawn was described in the books always reminded me of Star Trek aliens. He is basically just a regular human with different skin color and has unusual, cold behaviour. He is also logical, analytical, and takes the history, ideology, culture, and tactics into considaration, wich is very Star Trek-ish instead of Star Wars. And I like how in Rebels they took it one step further by giving him this wierdly simmetrical face, and rather large facial features, like his forehead. Some aliens in Star Trek are either humans with different skin color or humans with random pieces of makeup on their face. So Now he is even more of a Star Trek alien.

    I think it is important to mention that Thrawn was a Grand Admiral, the highest position in the imperial Navy! While Grand Moff Tarking was one away from Grand General the highest ranking in the Imperial Army! And I know they are different but how’s how fast and hard Thrawn worked while Tarkin served as a captain during the clone wars!

      That's why he loses in the series. He's constantly undermined by other imperial officials.
      Slavin got rid of important information about enemies, Konstantine tried to take control, Skerris also tried to take control, Director Krennic took his funding, and Pryce destroyed his resources.
      Every time this happened, the rebels were given an opportunity to survive/gain the upper hand.

    • @EmptyMan000
      @EmptyMan000  Před 6 lety +1

      I can try with Toffee but Meteora isn't very good villain video material for me since she never accomplished her main goals and mainly was just a laughingstock turned rabid monster turned baby. I'd do Eclipsa with time though.

    • @stonefree7973
      @stonefree7973 Před 6 lety

      EmptyMan000 I can only agree. 😒 Meteora was kind of like a reverse of Toffee. Toffee had an intelligent personality with a deeply unsatisfying and vague backstory, while Meteora had a rich and potent backstory but a deluded personality. As Miss Heinous seeing this heartless perfectionist spiral into madness due to losing everything, was a hoot. And seeing her backstory you can't help but feel sorry for Heinous, she lost everything due to circumstances outside of her control, she was a sympathetic villain.
      But in the final episodes, that sympathy is stripped away in her monster form. Meteora suddenly turns into this hulking brat with soul sucking powers, that can't comprehend her mother's wishes and speaks like an infant having a temper tantrum. There's no sympathy and no reason for Star to even contemplate Meteora's inheritance because she would undoubtedly be the worse heir. They should have combined the calm heartless disposition(and appearance) of Miss Heinous, with the vengeance and power of Meteora. But make the unbound vengeance only come out towards the end of this version's run, fueled by the Butterfly Family constantly foiling her plans and ruining the lives of Eclipsa, Globgor, and the monster race. Not by feeling entitled to the throne like a child.

    • @tayojones9460
      @tayojones9460 Před 6 lety +2

      Axel Meteora was wasted potential. She could have been a tragic villain, searching for her lost heritage and vowing to take vengeance on the butterfly family for ruining her life. She could have been a really Great, compelling villain, but the writers botched it and turned her into a generic monster who wanted the throne. Eclipsa was more compelling, but she is not a villain (at least as far as we know). Toffee was a more effective antagonist, and he only appeared in a few episodes.

      Tao Jones T.jones Toffee had an interesting personality and plan, but had terrible usage. He had a premature death, a vague backstory, and didn't directly cause proper tension and dark moments. Honestly his role in the series should have been like Professor Pericles or Azula or Slade, serving as a Knight of Cerebus who meets our protagonists regularly and serves a competent threat to them. Outpacing and defeating them at every turn.
