Very cool you not only build a fine product, you can shred too man!
Hey Bill. Im impressed with your build and your finish. Great job. I cant wait for mine to arrive
Many thanks.
Very nice. I watched all 6 vids and subbed.
Thanks for subscribing to the channel! More stuff coming soon!
Nice work Bill! I'll have to build my own guitar some day!
Highly recommend the Pango kits when its time for you to build one. you end up getting a lot of guitar for not much money.
I'll definitely check out your pickups as well!
Very nice build series...looks like on video anyway the finish is very good....probably better in person...during the sound samples..the sustain sounds amazing...and for a "box" guitar not to shabby...👍👍👍
Many thanks.
great job Bill! those pickups sound pretty good nice jams can't wait to see how you fix it up thanks!
I was surprised by the pickups for sure.
Looks good Bill, looking forward to hearing it with a Sonoran set installed! 👍
Many thanks Gio!
Hey Chief, that guitar sounds as good as it looks! Nice work, as always. Also looking forward to hear it with one of your own pickups!
Peace and long life! 🖖
Thank you. It will be a few weeks before that happens, got to get rolling on my GGBO build and finish up my Rebel SC build.
I had been waiting for this video. It fits and sounds excellent, however with the new change of pickups it will sound much better. I appreciate taking your videos as a reference point for my project flying v. Thanks and blessings Bill.
Many thanks.
I can’t wait to pick mine up. Doing a custom design on it. Can’t wait
Been thinking of getting a kit guitar to have something different than the three strats I have. Looking into a V and an Explorer. Came across this build series and you've made me feel alot more comfortable doing a kit for myself. Just can't find a V that I like. Can't wait for the upgrade video and can't wait to check out the rest of your videos.
It is a great kit to build. Everything fit together really well. I will be doing the Pickup and Electronics upgrade soon. Probably have that one out in March.
Ive really wanted to build one of these, the explorer version, and i was hesitant but after watching this series im 100% going too. I will be watching this back over and over to help reference me through the build. Nice work!
Thank you. The explorer kit should be a fun one for sure.
you wont regret it
Congrats on the build, she looks great! I'm honestly shocked at how good it sounded with those pickups and electronics. I was on the fence about trying a Pango kit, but you convinced me, so I just ordered the same kit. Plan on doing something very similar but a little lighter, similar to Gibson's "Flamed Washed Cherry Burst".
Yeah, I was really impressed with the pickups as well. I’ll be doing another build soon of one of their headless guitar kits
Nice videos
It sounded much better than I thought it would considering it has the stock electronics!
I looked for kits that were just the body and neck as I want to put some better quality parts on the guitar, I found a local UK company called Northwest Guitars who sell good quality kits but I also quite like the Tele Wilkinson kit from Stewmac which is a complete kit but the parts are good quality Wilkinson parts, I do have some decent Wilkinson parts that I bought for another guitar and am quite impressed by them and so I think I will get the Stewmac kit.
Im looking forward to the upgrade videos, I have the parts to build a bobbin winder and so the pickup video will be of great interest to me!
I luv binding. But I like the pickguard v too
Chose this one because of the quilt maple top
Hey Bill, thanks for sharing all this. I enjoyed following along the build process. This guitar turned out great. It’s inspired me to try one of their kits. How did you have it shipped to you, EMS or UPS are the options they give me? I’ve never used EMS.
I didn’t have a shipping option. Mine came via UPS
..yes,..nice.
Cool beans!
Hi Bill you did not mention the name of the oil based timber sealer, could you please? great work!
I used Oil Based filler from Oxford Supply Company. oxfordguitarsupply.com/product/grain-filler-oil-based-8oz/
It turned out pretty nice, Bill!
Yeah, I'm pretty happy with it overall. Well worth the money spent on it, that's for sure
Awesome guitar! I ordered the same guitar and actually am going for a natural wood finish and am strapping a bigsby vibrato on to the back with vibramate to give it some nice looking hardware. I am wondering if I want a natural wood kind of finish/burst and I am thining of using the leather dyes but in brown tan and yellow can you finish the guitar in Tung oil? What happens to the oil over the binding area? Does it act like a clear coat would over the binding I am wanting that smoothness from wood to binding transition on fretboard I just don't know if tung oil holds up and would do that or if clear coat is better option-I am nervous to do a clear coat since Tung oil is the easier option for enhancing the wood too. Awesome videos can't wait to follow along
Thank you. You can finish it in Tung Oil. In my experience, very little will remain on the binding, as it will usually buff off because it doesn't really pernitrate into the binding. If you look can at my GGBO 2022 FireHawk build, I have binding on it and did a combination of Tru-Oil on top and hard wax oil on the back and sides. The binding doesn't have any oil on it and it fine with no issues between the wood and binding. If you go with a dyed top, be careful applying the Tung oil as it may reactivate the dye and cause the colors to blend some more. A good practice is to allow the dye to dry for 24 hours. Steel wool the top to remove any of the excess dye sitting on top, then spray a few coats of sanding sealer on the top. Allow that to fully dry before applying the oil finish.
@@billsguitargarage thanks very much for the help noted- I’ll keep scanning all of your videos for tips- I love that build the fire hawk turned out beautiful the wood finish is phenomenal- thank you
Hey Bill. I'm wondering how much the guitar weighs and the overall quality of the body because I'm torn on if I should buy one of these kits or not. Also your kit looks sweet!
i think the guitar sounds great. i can't wait to hear it once you put in new Sonoran pickups. by blade pickups do you mean like the Magnatone pickups that are flat?
More like the blade pole piece that Bill Lawrence used in the XL500.
@@billsguitargarage just checked them out. they look cool, sound cool. they'll be great on that V
What was the gameplan on the clear coat, how many coats and how long did you let it sit each time? Did you sand and recoat ever?
Hello, I did 3 coats of clear approximately 30 minutes apart. I then let the clear dry for 72 hours then did a level sand and polish.
Bill, can you get the action pretty low?
Yes, I have it at 1.5 mm at the 12th fret and no buzzing
I’d shred one of your builds dude
Happy to build one for you!
I’m too lazy. If you ever think about selling it let me know 😀
Honestly pretty surprised at the quality of the electronics; Amazing what a few hundred dollars can buy you! I do hate that cluster of knobs though it was always annoying on Les Paul's and this looks even tighter. I'd swap out that top front front volume knob for a kill switch or something to make a little room.
Yeah, the knobs are a bit close, alot like the Firebird lay out. I am an LP guy at heart so I am used to the LP layout. Its the strat lay out that kills me! I usually reposition the volume switch on any strats I build.
@billsguitargarage I could never get comfortable on a strat. I saw a session player on CZcams who had a les Paul custom with only a volume knob, I think that's my ultimate setup, though I'm hesitant to try it.
