    In color, if it is lighter right and darker left, do the light blue color to its left end, then the next color (darker blue) Starts at its Left end point and works to the right . As it gets closer to the lighter color , you are running out of dye on the rag and so it is getting lighter (to match). Same with black at the left end : Start at the left end and work towards the lighter color (in this case, the darker blue) Left to right to add color , right to left to make it darker.

      That is super helpful! I am going to use that on the next builds. I have a couple kits just waiting for me to finish this one. Do you have videos of your process?

    Love the color combo! I am currently learning this skill myself. What I like to do is, around the edges of the front, use my darker colors on the outside and fade to the lighter as you go inward towards the pickups. I've also done the opposite and got some great results. Keep up the good work!

      Thank you! I'd love to try out that technique and see if I can get better at it. Thanks for the comment! 🤓

    For that top i would have stained it the navy first and sanded it back. Then work the other colors from darkest up to lightest.

      That's a great idea! I worried about sanding it back because it is veneer. But I have got to at least try it out. Thanks for the comment. :)

    Good video . Really enjoyed . I have been an auto body painter for about 38 years . I have painted a few guitars and drum kits . The auto paint looks incredible . But kills the sound . Do to the thickness .

      Thank you! That really means a lot. I appreciate your comments. I am currently filming the next steps where I am staining the back of the guitar. Man, there is a reason it's called Good, Better, Vest. I'm not even to the good stage yet with the stain. Yikes. Hopefully I'll learn some things and it won't look too bad when I publish it for all to see.

    I learned quickly, that Aquacoat really needs to be sanded before dye…..I ended up with shiny spots, which I had to sand off, and stain again…..

      I have unfortunately learned this lesson several times, I guess not learned, but tried again and again with the same lack of success. 🤪 I would love any suggestions of a different grain filler because Aquacoat has been pretty frustrating.

    The problem with compressed air is that the compressor is "Oiling" and "Watering" the air it blows and that residue is then imbedded in the wood grain. Not Good ! One MUST have a water/oil separator on their compressor or it leaves a residue.

      That's great info! I was totally unaware of that, which is why I'm doing this! To hopefully learn some good methods I can repeatedly use. Thanks for your comment! Hope you subscribe and keep giving comments and helps! 🤓

    Rit dye raises the grain ? Then, water the wood first, raise the grain yourself, then sand it to your liking. Then Rit won't raise the grain 'cause YOU already did !!

    • @goodbettervest
      @goodbettervest  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Again, thank you @ppgwhereeverett! Rit dye is water based, unlike the Angelus Leather dye which is alcohol based, so it evaporates quickly. I love the raise the grain yourself suggestion. Thank you!

    Stop with the CONSTANT different camera angles, very annoying.
