    just wanted to say hi Bill and thank you for doing this series of videos, I've just bought a pango kit (my first guitar build) and your explanations are absolutely invaluable. Your explanations are to the point and very clear and easy to follow as a template for building my own guitar. Again many thanks for doing this.

    Good video Bill. Must be strange building a kit after all the scratch builds. I've never done a kit but it looks easy it might be fun.
    Your stain process looks about the same as Big D. It turned very nice. I was worried that veneer might have glue squeezed through it. Making it impossible to get stained well.

    • @billsguitargarage
      @billsguitargarage  Před rokem

      Hiya Dane, Yeah, I watch a lot of BigD's videos. There are a couple places where the glue came through the veneer, but it's not to bad, especially when the entire kit was $180. I remember when a kit like this was a major under taking, now it just fun to fit in during the downtime of applying finish to other builds.

    I just came across this build series tonight as ive been curious if any of these diy kits i keep seeing on fb and fb marketplace are any good, so first awesome build series man, it gave me a lot of insight. I have a question for you if you see this since the video is about 6 mos old now. I have a bc rich ironbird i got from a friend that i didnt like the paint, it looks like someone repainted it at some point, i always thought it would be cool to strip it and stain it then clearcoat it as i kinda like seeing the wood grain peek through like on the cherry sg's. My question is why leather dye vs wood stain? Is one better than the other or is stain just a huge no no?

    • @billsguitargarage
      @billsguitargarage  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hiya, Glad you like the video. No, there is nothing wrong with wood stain. I have used it several times on guitars, but I think the leather dye blends better so you can get the fades between colours eaiser.

    does the neck have an angle? I had problems with mine because there was no angle and the strings come pretty low on the saddle and tailpiece. Nice colour and I had to admit your kit is way better than mine 👍

      @billsguitargarage  Před rokem +1

    Hey Bill! I'm almost done with my kit. I'm off to electronics at this point. I was wondering if/how you grounded the bridge? And if you didn't, is there a lot of extra noise? Thanks again in advance. This build has kind of been the blueprint for my build.

      I did ground the bridge.

    • @billsguitargarage
      @billsguitargarage  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yes, it has a ground wire attached to the harness already. It grounds to the bridge post. Feed the ground wire from the electronics cavity up to the bridge post. Then fold bare wire to go against the side of the hole. When you press the bridge stud it, it will provide the ground. The hole from the electronics cavity to the bridge stud hole should already been drilled

    Another question for you: I’ve done a dark wood burst Tabacco style and I would also like to dye the frets darker being that they are lighter- how can I get this stain to lock in- is it practical to use the stain sanding sealer on the frets or how would you go about making the frets darker for this kit? Thanks!

    • @billsguitargarage
      @billsguitargarage  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi, I don't know of anyway to dye the frets. Being metal they will not allow the dye to penetrate. Any coating you may put on the frets will just come off when the strings contact the frets.

    I'm having an issue with Pango at the moment. I placed a custom order on Jan. 27, 2023 and was told it would take about 45 days. I waited 60 before asking for an update. I was told they just came back from their holiday and the builds are a little slower than usual, and asked me to please wait a little longer.
    So I waited another 3 weeks before asking for an update. I am told "Your kit is almost done." 2 weeks later I ask for an update and again "It is almost ready. We need another 5-7 days." I give them 11 days before asking for another update. No response. A few days later I ask again. Again, no reply. So I tell them if they do not answer, I will start a refund claim with PayPal.
    No answer. So I start the claim process and THEN they contact me asking why I am doing this. By the way, back when I was asking for updates, they told me if I can't wait, I can ask for a refund and they will give it to me. Anyway, I explain to them that they are always telling me it is "almost done" and keep asking me to wait. I only have 180 days from the time of ordering, to qualify for a refund thru PayPal, and those 180 days are almost up. I feel they are stalling so that time runs out and I can't get my money back.
    So I said I would mention their business practices on my CZcams channel. They replied with "We see what kind of person you are. Send us the video link. And we will tell the world about you." They want the link so they can get my channel name. Even if I had more than the piddly little 90 subscribers, I highly doubt they could discredit me and hurt my channel in any way. It was pretty funny that they used that as a threat.
    So they told me a few times to cancel the claim ASAP or else they would never do business with me again. As if I planned on using them again. Again I told them time is running out and I want to make sure I can get my money back. Suddenly the guitar is ready. They sent me pictures and they did not drill the mounting holes for the Floyd Rose studs, and they did not paint it. Again they said "Cancel the claim ASAP or we will send the guitar directly." I guess "directly" means unpainted because they said it would take another 7 days for paint. I feel they are still trying to stall for time. I said I will not cancel, and if they send the guitar unpainted, then they are not fulfilling my request on the custom kit. I paid extra for the Floyd Rose rout and a paint job. If they send it unpainted, I should be entitled to some sort of refund.
    Anyway, sorry for ranting. lol
    They sent me a UPS tracking number which doesn't yet show any info. So I have no idea if the guitar is actually in transit or not. If they did send it, I will do a review on it (I wonder if they'll honor their $15 refund for making a CZcams video on the purchase). I just find it to be poor business practice to offer a refund, and then when I ask for one, they don't respond, causing me to file a claim with PayPal, and then get an attitude with me for doing so. I just don't trust them. How can you? When they don't even use their real names. I was dealing with "Ann" and then got an update from "Alice". I've contacted other Chinese manufacturers about having a custom build, and have dealt with "Amanda", "Ashley", "Becky", "Mary" and "Tiffany". So I guess every Chinese guitar company is run by a woman and none of them have traditional Chinese names. Anyway, in case you were wondering what I ordered, it was the Steinberger headless kit PWT-716, but with a rout for a Floyd Rose (I'll have to get a neck with a headstock) and to have it painted white since I live in a condo and have nowhere to paint it. I told them I didn't even want the pickups or electronics. Just the body, neck (I might be able to use that on a guitar I got from DHGate), the cavity cover and the neck mounting screws. So I saved them some money. They can use that stuff on another kit.
