man i was considering buying one of these v kits and i was hesitant because of the price. but man we need more people like you building and reviewing these guitars. you deadass sold me on this, thanks for that.
I have seen both positive feedback and negative feedback on the kits some folks have received. I'm glad mine was a positive experience.
Thanks for all of the time spent showing your steps. I’m thinking a kit like this will be a nice change from doing another Tele partscaster assembly. Your V is amazing.
It is a kit I enjoyed building for sure. Everything fit together nicely
I tend to cringe during the staining process thinking it's not looking good at certain stages. And WOW that top is perfect. My dream guitar finish. Fantastic job!
Yeah, the dye is deceptive.
Hello from Australia. You are doing a fantastic job and thanks for explaining every process in detail. Keep up the great work.
Many Thanks! Glad you are finding them useful! I’ll be doing the pickup and electronics upgrades soon
Great job thank you for this. Exactly what I needed to see done with the neck I am psyched to get started thanks for this entire series!
Thanks. It has been a fun kit to build.
Your music kicks ass. That beginning song is real good. I'm going to try to make a guitar too.
Really nice to see that your not using a bunch of million dollar tools and stuff to build this kit...really helps inspire people to believe that this can be done with a minimal investment in tools and supplies and still achieve great results!!!
Cant wait for the next video...🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Hi Eric, Thanks. That was kind of my goal with this review/build, just build it with what the average person ordering a kit would have access to. Even with the upgrades I do on it later, I will keep that theme alive. Gonna be announcing a special pickup deal once that time comes as well!
@@billsguitargarage i just contacted them about an Explorer kit with ESP style electronics...the base kits they have seem pretty close with the correct headstock at least...no one else seems to offer that...
@@ericvernon1182 Yeah, the explorer kit seems like a nice one
Add some Dominger Custom Hand wound Pickups and it's a $2000 Custom Guitar.
@@dgperforms1 gonna be putting my Sonoran Hand Wound Custom pickups in it. I’ve got several signature sets that sound great
Great series sir. This will really help when i do one with my son.
Hey Bill, Just found your channel after looking at this kit online. Thanks for doing this video, as there is a LOT of great information here. Just getting into building myself, and this kind of info is invaluable. Awesome guitar, and I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on this one.
Many thanks! Glad you liked the video. This kit is a good starting point for sure. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have as you go through building it
How much is a kit like that?
@@MattBaker-zd8nq I paid 180 with shipping. I did not use the tuners which are super cheap so I upgraded to locking tuners. I think total cost (kit, tuners, and finishing materials) came to 285. Still gonna upgrade pickups and electronics with a set of the pickups that I build
Turned out stunning, brother!
Wait till you see it with the clear coat. Top came out fantastic
Awesome man. You did a really great job. ✌️🤍🖖
Thanks Todd. I'll start polish and buff on the body tomorrow. The top really popped once the clear coat hit it.
Nice work Bro. You just earned a new sub
Many Thanks!
Nice job Bill! Looking good 👍
Many thanks Gio.
Nice job! I am currently working with their firebird 3 pickup kit. It had a few issues I had to fix but overall not terrible. The veneer had some gaps where it met the raised part of the firebird top that I had to fill and sand. Since I am doing a solid color it is not as big a deal but if I had planned on a transparent color it would have been a big issue. I went with heather poly nitrocellulose lacquer (not cheap) and am working on clear coats now.
Would really like to see some pictures of it!
@@billsguitargarage sure. How can I send them to you? CZcams won’t let me share in the comments.
Great videos. What is the grain fill product you’re using? Can it be used with alcohol or water based dyes?
I am using the Oil Based Grain Filler from Oxford Paint Supply. It can be used with alcohol and water based dyes.
Hey Bill, after the application of the sanding sealer and before the clear coat, did you sand the top (dyed) surface of the guitar or did you leave it alone?
I did a super lite sand with 1000 grit
@@billsguitargarage Great, thanks Bill. I really appreciate the videos. I had no idea what to do when I bought the kit and the instructions given are basically worthless. You saved my project!
@@mwxtreme You got instructions!?!
Hi bill. I received my v kit but the neck pocket is poorly done. It looks very thin and cracking. What would be the best way to fix this? Should i cut it back a little ? I wish i could attach a pic to show you
Are you on Facebook Bill? I'd like to show you my kit I'm dealing with
@@kevinbrown1833 Yes, I am on Facebook. Search for Bill Taylor, my profile pic is a white LP custom in from of a Marshall JCM 800

I ordered March 17th and no kit even built for me yet. Does it usually take so long?
Hi Kevin, Mine took about 8 weeks I believe. Seems like that is their normal timeframe from what I have seen from other reviews
@@billsguitargarage ok. Thx bud
Was the body okoume or african mahogany?
Not sure. Just listed as mahogany. I’m sure it the cheapest stuff they could source.
