I'm sure it will save lots of people the hassle of guessing what setup will work best for their needs, with there being as many opinions as people out there. For a street car, I'd be setting that G30 on the 1.01 housing - and then mapping in boost by gear, letting it rip in 4/5/6 and reigning it in for 1/2/3.

Yeah, but Supras long ratio's you'll find that full boost by 3rd is fine. I run 15psi in 1st (600+whp), 19psi(700whp) in 2nd and 26psi(850whp) in 3rd onwards. Sometimes i knock 3rd down to 22-23psi depending on traction and tire condition. But you get about 110mph out of 3rd gear, so there's no need in limiting boost above 70mph. I only change into 3rd around 60-65mph.

    @AngelFloyd27 Před 2 lety +5

What a great video guys, fantastic stuff. For me, the most interesting things were actually on the second part of the video. In my humble opinion, I'd pick the G30 turbo with the 83 housing for better response. Looking at the graphic, yeah, both housings are spooling alright after 4500 at peak boost, but it's not only the shifting point, but the posibility to hold a gear lower in the revs and have a better pick up in the middle range, around 3500-4000 rpm, with the advantage of losing less time shifting, specially in the second to third gear shifts. But I get what Francis says about the 101 housing, it's easier to modulate the throttle if the response isn't that snappy. I don't know... I'm an NA guy, don''t mind me, lol. Cool stuff guys, love it as always.

One suggestion: it would have been helpful to bring up a table with key attributes you guys were looking for out of the setup (IE spool, peak power, boost pressure, race gas performance, pump gas performance, etc) in the first column, and then have each setup filled in with the characteristics as you went. I do think that one of the things I'm disappointed in is that there seems to be no interaction between you guys (even if whomever is reading the comments is from a team of people we don't know LOL). I never see any response from the channel in the comments section. So questions seem pointless to ask and that makes any community feel here seem non existent. Or at best only one sided. I'd like to ask about the choice to run a smaller intercooler and the idea of better low down torque and power for street fun and enjoyment. But it's pointless as you don''t interact. Proves what I have been saying for years, a well built engine running a modern turbo always responds better on the bigger turbo, the IAT’s drop, less boost needed and the bigger turbos give better fuel economy.
Another advantage, the big turbos also give a form of boost by gear, in 1st and second engine rpm acceleration means they push slightly less boost which is good for clutches and grip, 3rd gear and up the turbo spool match’s or exceeds rpm gain so you get max power… really enhances the big engine warp speed feel in the car.
Try the two larger turbo sizes on the street and see what you like. Another option is have a switchable map so as the turbos are easily exchanged you could run a smaller turbo on the street and a big boy for the track… But I cannot see you go small now.

I agree as long as it's not laggy. But i run a 67mm turbo on mine vs the g35's 62mm and mine is more responsive than this setup, i run boost by gear and am not stressing turbo, engine etc until i get into three higher gears. On e85 im making around 480kw atw on 15psi (low boost). Easy power. And 410kw on pump. Both great for street and super responsive, full boost at 3000rpm

Actually if you use the same octane numbers, the Sunoco is 110 RON, and the MS109 is 109. Sunoco use the AKI numbers, (so 105) rather than the Motor or Ron numbers. The Sunoco EVO10 actually has a slightly higher oxygen content than the MS109, plus doesnt contain MTBE, so wont eat your engine bits.

So much work and just as much data. Thank you very much, this helps a lot of guys out there.
IMO you should have gone with the 0.8 housing on the G30 for a street car. You had ~70ft lbs more tq right before 4k rpm with the smaller housing, that's nearly 20% more tq, but you only gain like 20-30hp up top with the 1.01 housing (which is only ~5% difference).
Car looks and sounds amazing btw =)

This vid solidified how important ar is and made it clear for a 400 to 500whp 3.0L the gt30 .83 or .86 ar is the way to go.

Not into supras or JZs but this one looks nice. Enjoyed the video but felt few things could have been improved / more thorough.
I think the G35 with .83 housing would really have been a good test and may have been a great compromise between the G30 & 1.01 and the G35 & 1.01.
MAP trace at the very least would have been nice. Either as part of the ECU logs or connected to the dyno.
ECU logs with turbo speed sensor would be nice to see.
Obviously wasnt planned and but for something like this seeing pressure ratio and EGTs would be extremely valuable.
Also don't think that "larger" filter was the solution to the restriction.
    Airbox closed 486whp
    Airbox open 506 whp (difference peak 20hp / 4%)
Small filter & airbox closed 617whp
    "Big" filter 632whp (difference peak 15hp / 2.5%)
To simulate road conditions at least marginally more could have tried moving the blue fan closer to see if there was any difference there.
The wavy dyno chart up top is slightly concerning as that's already got a smoothing factor of 5.
Thanks for the videos guys ✌🏻

Love the show boys great content. I knew the twin turbo Gtr with less power and 4/11 gears would beat the single turbo Supra, the smaller twins on the Gtr make a load more torque so much earlier in the rev range and I would guess a whole lot more torque revs for revs than the supra, that's why nissan went down the twin route because they wanted response!. I also get confused when north American based youtubers say race track, because you mean drag strip,in the U.K. when we say race track we mean circuit. Thankyou boy's keep it up,would love to see more in depth engine builds being an engineer. ❤

After all the very interesting content I got answers to a lot of questions but gaind even more 😂.
When artec launched the manifold I instantly bought one together with an G30-770 .83. hunting the ultimate response. Difference is I'm using a Vvti and 264° by Titan... I was hoping for 500 at the wheels...as I see now, that's not going to happen without an intake or porting... but on the other hand 10psi below 3000 is nearly as good as stock😅

You guys have the map for both of the setups you like. Would love to see you try out both on track and street.
I make a similar amount of power with a rwd Skyline on a modified Holset HX35 which places it kind of in the middle of flow of your two turbos. I don’t find myself wanting anymore low end torque even with a 275 r888r on the back.
