9500rpm and 900hp with Garrett G35-1050! Best single turbo for GT-R?

  • We maxed out our turbo so we needed a new one. Could we make more power without losing drivability? Does the new G35-1050 live up to its name? We install one, then test it on the dyno and with a bunch of racing at Powercruise. If this doesn't make your mind up about the G35, nothing will.

    Please...PLEASE make the next change the Hypertune IM/TB combo. Its absolutely one of the biggest contention points as you well know as to what they ACTUALLY do VS the stock plenum.
    You can find flow numbers all day, but never any actual real world or back to back dyno numbers. You're in the power range where it should be a great example of if the stock ITBs and Plenum truly do limit the power, and its be nice to see what happens on your tune between Cylinders as far as fuel changes needed (prove how starved #5/6 are in factory form)

    • @boris9331
      @boris9331 Před 4 lety +2

      I've been asking the same thing for ages, nobody has done a back to back on this but yet again with many other things, do you ever truly see a valid back to back test?. There's quite a few high HP, even in the 1000's RB26's running the ITB's. The only reason I'd delete the ITB's is if needing twin injector rails, or direct port nitrious. I see no other benefit

      @@boris9331 the advantages are in idle control, ease of implimenting anti lag strategies, in the case of this car with a sequential box they will be able to implement clutchless downshifting, traction control, cruise control, ease of serviceability, better cylinder balance, lack of worrying about the linkages being correctly balanced.

      @@MotiveVideo Andrew you make good videos, and I realise this was at least partly driven by a product placement exercise, but taking out the sequential wouldn't change the fact you spend most of your time in this video in the top 2k of rpm range. It would just make the car slower. I'm just saying, given your demonstrated usage, and indeed in my experience what most people's usage is of cars like this, perhaps the next product placement could be a G42-1450 ..... maybe accompanied by the Hypertune manifold you mentioned and some higher lift cams for shits and giggles

    Get the stroker engine built first as that will be your biggest hurdle, then you're likely going to want
    water/methanol so as to compare a more apples to apples from not changing fuel source yet. I would go to E98 after you test what it's going to make on water/methanol. From there, hypertune manifold and throttle body once the sucker is maxed out on boost and fueling potential to really test if the manifold swap is that much better and makes more power or if it's not quite as good as initially lead on to be. I personally would not do nitrous just because it's basically only good for very limited and specialized situations. It would freaking awesome to have but would probably only be used in straight up drag races.
    This car is a monster. Good work guys!

    What were the IAT's like up at 35psi? If it's pulling timing with corrections up there then you could try water meth just to keep the ECU happy. I'm not sure you will get any gains as far as max advance over the e85 though. Depends if you are already able to reach MBT with the ethanol it has. I'm seeing less than ambient temps in my N/A GT with straight meth injection and 6degree's more advance than running 98 (knock limited without) WM injection activated. Just disable the ECT corrections for a run and hit 900wheel. 😏

    in regards to small things to get more power, have you tried a capacitor type spark plug or brisk silver plugs? they tend to work very well under high pressure, seen significant gains for a cheap easy mod, next thing would be making sure you're getting enough power from the coilpacks, optimising the ignition system could see you net another 20-30hp up top, i know the system you have on there is pretty good but maybe try playing with it a bit, or switch to a 16v or 24v system, will definitely see results with that.

      Motive Video True, dynos can artificially load high compared to the road as not much is going to hold a 800+hp R32 back on the tarmac. Not like you’re towing trailers up hills with it anytime soon! Amazing how close Garret has taken the compressor/turbine balance on these G series turbos like little 660hp rated T25 frames: crazy stuff. The Dyno shows how close it is and then the actual cruise pulls shows it is money.
