So for you non-comic readers out there, Batroc is considered one of the best hand to hand combatants in the Marvel universe, he uses a mix of taekwondo, Savate(French kickboxing) and Muay Thai. A former special forces member of the French Foreign Legion, he now sells his services to the highest bidder, he's also partnered up with Taskmaster to train and arm various organizations henchmen, A.I.M, the Maggia. So yeah Batroc is awesome. And the fact that they got George St.Pierre to play him is nothing short of perfect casting.

@@TrickyTidy actually as a French man who grew up hearing how the Invaders freed his country from Hitler. Since they're the catalyst of D-Day in the comics with Steve, Bucky and Peggy Carter leading the fight across multiple fronts. The films even showed the Nazis surrender to him at Pointe Du Hoc.
And his unit invading Omaha beach in the Winter Soldier Zola montage. Blink and you'll miss it.
He trained his legs and only his legs since he knew he'd never reach Cap's full potential to be as strong as he thought Captain America was. This film shows him only going for kicks. Implying the same thing. His lower body is peak human potential as is his core. His arms are not. Their fight in the comics is some of the greatest pages ever illustrated in a Cap comic.
He's a mercenary for hire. He took the first job for no pay to get a chance to fight Steve in the comics. Here. Fury paid him but he still clearly did it for the chance to fight his hero.

And he didn't decapitate him, he slammed the shield repeatedly into his chest using the SIDE resulting in terminal internal and external injuries. The shield is vibration absorbent from the front. Next time, try to use your brain.
I love how Steve fights. He uses his body's own force and momentum just like Peggy taught him. He fights like he's still small, which increases his force.

He comes from the 1940s, whether he had a French or not does not matter, they had to learn diverse language back then due to infiltrations.

I mean this film takes place 2 years after the events of Avengers so it is within the realm of possibility that he learned a few things. Just look at how he’s fighting, he didn’t learn Krav Maga back in 1945, he’s definitely been training with SHIELD
I always thought that Winter Solider had some of the best fight choreography in the MCU.
Probably because it didn’t have to focus on CGI as much as the others did.
This movie also had a top-level stunt team, the same people who worked on Netflix´s Daredevil, did the motion capture for the Batman Arkham videogames and also the 2 stunt doubles for Cap. America were absolute pros.

because they took inspiration from The Raid films (which were popular at the time of this movies release). The rest of the MCU has garbage fight scenes mostly except for Shang Chi, or the person who stunt doubles for Black Widow (she is Chad stahelskis wife, the guy who directed John Wick films)

Yeah, he's clearly got all that SSS running through his veins. Steve was taking this fight blindfolded and with an arm tied to his back. Batroc is just a relatively normal guy. The fact that he could actually put up a fight to Steve rather than getting one shotted like every other goon is a commendable feat. Steve doesn't really need to do anything when fighting normal people when he's beyond peak human.

Good point, although at this stage in their relationship i think she's still cynical and utilitarist and relies on Cap's boy-scout attitude more than she trusts him as a person. I believe it's their arc in this very film to move to the genuine respect and friendship that are so pivotal in Civil War and so profound in Endgame.

My fav moment in this scene is right at the end when Nat is visibly upset at herself for disappointing Cap. That's part of his charm as a leader, even people that don't agree with him crave his respect, and fear his disappointment.

Didn’t get much into comics until probably 5 years after this movie came out. Now find it amazing that they put batroc the leaper into a blockbuster movie like this. And that they stayed faithful to his costume and fighting style

I love the little detail of Nat shooting the window before they break through so that they don't go splat on it. Also how she's visibly in pain from this maneuver vs. Cap being pretty much fine, because Nat is a (very skilled) normal human being.

This is what I love about marvel. There casting decisions are really great. They bring us The GOAT GSP as Batroc the leaper one of the finest french assassins. He appeared in TFATWS too. It'll be great if he joins a dark avengers or thunderbolts in a future MCU project.
I also hope to see John Walker again as well.
From what I remember in the comics, Cap and Batroc weren't friends but they weren't exactly enemies either and often wound up working together. There was a mutual respect between them. Even Batroc said he couldn't defeat Captain America...only fight him. When Cap was killed in "Fallen Son" Batroc was one of the grieiving mourners at the funeral and said "I will miss you, my friend". Batroc turned good guy for a short time after that, but eventually went back to being Batroc. I think that's a shame as he'd make a great bad guy turned good and even a possible leader of a European version of the Avengers.
I saw one comic, back in the '90s I think, in which two of Batroc's subordinates were starting to get a bit less than respectful. Cap helped him out by deliberately "LOSING" a (staged) fight to make them think Batroc COULD, after all, take Captain America down.

This scene showed that Cap wasn't just strong and fast. He could adapt to an opponent if he had time. In their last round you could see Cap knew to target Batroc's legs.

The Flag-Smashers and Walker can be beaten by Steve single-handedly with some amount of effort. Despite how they state that their serum is more optimized than Erskine's, they haven't trained to move, perform, or control their moves as efficiently as Steve as shown in this movie, nor even Bucky himself if he held nothing back.

True. They may be enhanced but Steve always keeps himself trained and Steve is dealing with enemies that are at some point stronger than him. His strength and skills adapt and is increasing every fight.
I think the best showcase that Bucky is holding back immensely is the scene where he acts like Zemo has control over him,he'd kill Karli or the others if he really wanted to.

If he wanted to be a raging alcoholic he could and still be shredded. Of course its always good to keep your skills refined which obviously fits his character.

I'm glad Sam had his hand to hand fight with Baltroc as well and won. Also, fighting supersoldiers (Flagsmashers) and kicking their asses without any serum enhancements is an underrated thing people really don't give him that much credit for. I think he more than earned the shield and title.
Sam was top when he met Steve but i'm also pretty sure that between movies he also trained with Cap and picked up more than a few things.
I would have loved to have seen who taught Steve all those advanced hand to hand techniques though. Erskine has boosted his body beyond anything human, who gave him the skills though? Would have been nice to have seen a short training montage in WW2 in Captain America: First Avenger.

No, Sam only wins the fights because plot armor says so. Sam is not qualified to be Capt American just like Hawkeye is not qualified. There is only one replacement for Cap and that is Bucky but MCU decided to go woke and put up SAM. He is not even 10th tier in comparison to Cap or Bucky. He is just a dude in armor built by Tony with 100th of the skill of the real capt or bucky.
As much as they were arguing their teamwork is still on point. Truly professionals. I love how smooth they were with it too.
The Ultimate Spiderman cartoon introduced me to Batroc when i was a kid, as bad as that show was at times you cant deny its one of the funniest spiderman shows. When I was in theaters and saw him here I lost my 14 year old mind lmao, I didnt hear anyone call him Batroc but the kickboxing, purple and yellow was enough to tell. As hilarious as a "Kickbox-Man" is he's whooped some serious ass spiderman included, and he was funny asf in that show
