      Does the diesel leave a smell on the wood after the drying process?
      Also wood you use the diesel process on Oak or Maple etc?

    • @wild1bill1950

      Wood dust floating in the air will settle in the vent hole and allow leakage. A small cotton pad secure on top will delay failure

    Even though the cap is plastic applying Teflon tape will not hurt. When you tighten the plug use just enough torque to make a good seal, you can always give it a little more if it leaks. Say hi to Mike & Melissa Morgan when you are at the Paul Bunion event. Now we be cuttin wood! Great video Nathan, thumbs up.

    Nathan, the o ring is working as advertised. The reason you have a o ring is the plug is not NPT or National Pipe Thread! Teflon tape is normally only used on NPT stuff. You can use thread tape but it's useless since you have a o ring! Hope this helps Nathan...

      Thanks Peter

    • @dalesimmons3397
      @dalesimmons3397 Před 2 lety +3

      No tape. That is a straight thread plug. Oring is sealing device.

    • @tannercayenne
      @tannercayenne Před 2 lety +8

      Right on Pete. But sometimes the o ring don't work or you can't get one and then go to thread tape or rtv silicone or electrical tape or toilet paper or beef jerky or tree bark or whatever you can find to make it stop leaking diesel.

    • @ScoredPiston
      @ScoredPiston Před 2 lety +6

      @@tannercayenne - if the o ring leaks then someone likely over tightened it. General rule with o-rings are snug it and then 1/2 turn otherwise you tear up the ring and it won’t seal. They used an o-ring on this pump likely because the plug is plastic, and if they tried thread sealant with that, it can get into the pump if you remove the plug and don’t clean it well, and inevitably with thread sealant / tape, people don’t wrap it correctly and they get leakage, and then overtighten it, and strip it out or crack the plug.

    I love your new introduction, it reminds me of the woods I used to play in, in Canada. To seal liquid leaks seal the threads with flexable sealant from a reputable brand like Permatex. Teflon does not seal air leaks blue locktite does seal air leaks. Doesn't diesel create a fire hazzard when used as a lubricant. When all else fails read the instruction manual supplied by the manufacturer.

    • @kevadams1964
      @kevadams1964 Před 2 lety

      Diesel has a higher flash point and shouldn't catch fire unless it comes in contact with direct flame. Even then it takes some time before it heats up to it's fire point.

    Nice mill looks like its going to be very productive for you. 2 observations, that chain log turner leaves some deep marks in the surface of the wood. Second with the sawdust chute you could very easily place a conveyor under the discharge chute and run your sawdust outside directly onto a pile. How are you finding the joystick controls compared to the previous levers?

    I am not too far from you, but my brother-in-law down in lower Alabama mainly saws pine on his LT35 and uses a pine sole and water mixture that works good. I have that mill several times and enjoy every minute of it. We sawed a 31 foot pine log last two weekends ago without extensions. That took most of the day but we had a nice straight 6”x12”x31’ beam when we finished.

    Nathan Teflon tape and pipe dope is only a lubricant not a thread sealant... NPT threads are tapered and that's what creates the seal as you tighten... Teflon and dope only lubricates so you can tighten enough to seal the threads as the tapers start to lock together.... Main rule with plastic is don't over tighten.... Nice mill...
