Beautiful wood. I'm from NE PA & had our honeymoon in Gatlinburgs smokey mountains in 2008. Such friendly people & beautiful woods. I can't wait to return. Oh did i mention how Gorgeous that log is.
I started watching your videos since mid March when I started working from home. I am in Oxfordshire England and have no experience in logging or milling in fact I do railway recovery which just shifting heavy metal about but I have learnt so much from your channel. Great work Nathan!!!
Hey brother, you should make your playlist available. I enjoy your music selection as much as the videos.
Sometimes in life things work out just like they are supposed to. That was the case with this log. When it first became available, you were not able to take advantage of the offer. The log was lost. Later, when you are in a place to accept the log, it is found again. Good things happen to good people. 👍
Yes sir!
Heck with the coffee, I just got a cold beer so I'm ready---
Love how that last slab has a knot that resembles a round peg in a square hole. I could see a theme based piece of furniture being made from it. Just awesome!
Walnut, Birdseye maple, honey locust, spalted maple. God I love watching people mill those up. Great video.
That is the most awesome wood grain on a walnut I have ever seen.
I doubt that another log more beautiful this one will ever come your way again,
Nathan, truly amazing walnut, wow.
thanks appreciate you,
Being an old 60's woodsman from New Zealand, I love your videos and being a guitarist since I was 9 years old, thats 64 years, I love your guitar soundtracks too. Great videos.
Wow! Beautiful! This one has a rose🌹 bloom in the grain.
Man, I love this man he tells you about everything
Thanks for watching!
Hi Nathan, that is the most beautiful Walnut I have ever seen and a great story to go with it. What a terrific video that was, thank you. Regards Jim UK.
The wood in that log is absolutely beautiful. You hit the lottery with that log.
Agreed 👍👍
**WOW** Just plain awesome.
Hard to believe that it's been (5) already. Seemed more recent.
Good to see some trees were 'saved'.
That is one of the most beautiful slabs of wood that I've ever seen. After you poured the water on it I paused the video and stared in awe! Absolutely gorgeous, congratulations Nate!
I guess the saying ''Good things come to those who wait'' is true ? Beautiful wood Nathan.
Thanks 👍👍👍👍
The only thing better than the "look" of walnut on the sawmill is the smell of it when you are sawing it...🤠
Best Wishes Nathan!
Thanks for watching!
Oh my goodness, that was certainly worth staying up until the wee small hours for. What beautiful wood, made me want to reach out across the Atlantic and run my hands over it. So glad you got that log, Nathan.
Glad you enjoyed it
This is awesome to see that something so beautiful lives on in a different way! Live about 45 minutes from G’Burg and Pigeon Forge. Was working on a Large standby generator install at a pump station up at Cobbly Knob when it was all happening and got ran off the mountain by rescue and fire teams, only to go back and have to tear out what we had already done, and start all over again, plus repair and replace many other electrical systems due to the heat of the fire at the Pump station. Those people went through a lot and some still are trying to get insurance monies to cover damages to homes and rental properties. It is amazing, however, to see the results of the rebuilding process! Great video, hits home!
Looks like it was worth the wait, & the journey, for this log. Beautiful lumber mate. Cheers, Don from South Australia.
That is one truly high quality walnut log. I can't get over how straight the grain is. I can only hope the crotch section produces some great figure when it is cut on the mill. The story about getting the log is equally impressive. It as if it was fate/destiny that log would end up on your sawmill.
That could make a majestic armoire, or just a paneled wall.
In the lumber business, it's low grade. Clear but stained. It's been laying to long. Character grade, that's another story. How much did you pay for it?
Make the hotel a nice table for the lobby. Great history. Great advertising for you. Glad you found it.
Great idea
I bought my first Woodmizer in '93. It was an LT30, and in '99 I was contract sawing at a commercial mill in middle Tn, sawing all their large prime logs. In 2 years I sawed over a half million bf. One time a guy brought me a walnut that was over 36" diameter x 12 ft. with the top log, I nearly sawed 1000bf. I'm on my third mill now. It's a standard LT40 non hydraulic that I use on my 110 acres of timber. I very seldom fell any walnut because it's still growing. That wide cut mill looks like a good one.
That’s what you don’t see enough of. People taking pride in what they do.
Goodness Nathan! That lumber was beautiful BEFORE you doused it with water. It was positively awe-inspiring after you wet it down. Thanks for sharing the images (and the lovely music) with us.
Glad you enjoyed it

Amazing log, watching you work never gets old.

Black walnut was the specified wood to be used in the construction of limber boxes for horse drawn artillery during the War of Northern Aggression.
OMG - that is some beautiful walnut. I think it's the best you had on the mill since I started watching over a year ago and you have had some great pieces. Stay safe.
Wow what a story! This log was destined to be in your mill Nathan! And it’s color is just gonna get so much better now that it’s sawn. Fantastic recovery.
-Ben
thanks Ben,
Beautiful wood!
In 1963 I completed flight training at Pensacola and my 1st duty station was at New River Marine Corps Air Station at Camp Lejeune, NC. In Jacksonville, NC I bought our first home, a 10 ft wide mobile home. The living room of that $4,000 mobile home had beautiful genuine walnut veneer paneling. Haven't been able to afford walnut since.
Peaceful scene and music at the end. Makes it home for everyone.
thanks for watching,
I loved the story and the wood is beautiful! Great job!

Simply beautiful. And such a history.

I was on a Disaster Relief volunteer chainsaw team for several months after the Gatlinburg fire. Cut some monster poplars and oaks, never saw any walnut. Handsome log.
Walnut is so awesome to work with. Even using all hand tools. It’s just an all around perfect species of hardwood! Enjoy your videos Nathan!
