"You never know when you're gonna need to measure something." Words of wisdom from a true woodworker.
I have a daughter that is 30 years younger than I am. I am 72 years old. I hope you had a very Happy birthday
i'm a forced into retirement carpenter/cabinet maker at 57 yrs old, due to my back wearing out, watching this, makes me melancholy, wanting to go build something...something I can no longer do, sadly

And man, 42 really is the answer to everything.
You are now the ultimate answer (42) to everything from the "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"
In the 70s my Dad, and I set a oak fence post. Dad said that the post would outlast him. He passed, the farm sold. About 20 years later the new owner got around to the post. It was still solid when he pulled it. Elm lasts a long time in the ground too.
I have a similar experience. We (I was 11 or 12 years old)up stock fences in the 70’s with local native hardwood timber mostly elm and oak, the yew straining posts. Whenever I come across those fences to replace today I salvage quite a number of them, they go on the “I’ve got a use for that stack”. Not many of our original fencing gang left working now though. Just me daft enough to be still straining wire 😉👊🍀
@@paddydunne774 keep on pulling
I live in East Texas, we get 60 inches of rain per year. Here, to only thing that last in the ground is Mulberry , cypress, and rich lighter long leaf pine ( heart wood after the sap wood is rotted away). The heart of the long leaf pine last the longest. The oaks just don't last in the continuously damp ground we have. Even the 40 cca treated post rated for ground contact will rot after about 10 years. Trust me, I have tried everything....including setting them in concrete. Some "virgin timber" long leaf pine heart wood , known as "lighter pine", rich in pine pitch, will last 40 years in sandy soil. In wet clay soils around here.....nothing last very long.
@@tomsawyer4776 what about hemlock pine which the railroads used for ties. Also Honey Locust is used in the Midwest for fences, very rot resistant. The honey locust with the long spikes, not sure about the spikeless version.
That’s crazy!!!! I built a white oak bench out of a hug log and it started rotting out within a year.
You look 35 brother. Living the dream friend!
Nathan, I just wanted you to know I appreciate your production value and your musical taste.
Thank u
Thank u
Love the natural color and richness of white oak. Takes my breath away every time I see a beautiful board of it.
I love the musical selection and the "right-on" audio mixing on your videos.
42, Happy Birthday. same age as my oldest boy.
The answer to life, the universe and everything is forty-two.😊
Happy Birthday Sir!!! Thanks for continuing to keep us educated on what you do.
Looking good Nathan, got some good boards out of that old log. Never know what you’ll get till you get to milling it. Thanks for sharing with us. Happy Birthday!! Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻
Whiskey barrels and ship hulls-good old white oak. The sapwood may rot off and it may become a mushroom farm but the heartwood will stay solid for many years.
Very nice result from that timber. All trees are precious we just have to look for it. Thank you, take care and God bless.
Good yeild. Pretty grains. Thanks for sharing.
Taking it to the next level. Great to be along for the ride.
Nathan, first HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Secondly, don't think I will ever get tired of seeing the beauty of what that noiy machine brings out of those dirty old logs. thank you
A belated Happy 42nd Birthday, Nathan.

Never argue with the man that cuts the lumber he sells. White oak it is then...

That white oak sure is some pretty wood. It’s amazing how that ugly old log turned into some beautiful lumber. I really do like your new sawmill. Cool video. Thanks Nathan 👍👍👍❤️
Thanks for watching
Happy Birthday.
Building that wall with the oak should last forever.
I feel your pain on the three phase. Wanted to upgrade a few years ago and it was like $32,000.00 just for the three phase.
Great video. Take care and God Bless.
He could alwsys build a rotary phase converter. Lots of good DIY videos on CZcams.
Just watched some of your q&a from the cedar video2 weeks ago . As soon as my wife heard the coconut oil comment she took off to the kitchen. She had helped me this w/e and got pine sap on her arm… worked like a champ thank you .
nice!
Happy birthday! And many many more!

Happy Birthday Nathan. All the best from Alaska.
Oooo! There's a crate! There's a big crate! What's in the crate Nathan? That is a beautiful white oak log. Great video thumbs up.
And thank you for the videos. I truly enjoy them!
Glad you like them!
These lightweight bandsaw mills are really ingenious. They work perfectly well without the heavy and expensive circular blades.
Belated Happy Birthday, Nathan!
Other than the fact I enjoy looking at the wood I have no reason to watch these. That being said, I have probably watched 50 videos over the course of a year or 2. The dude is just so damn LIKEABLE.
Keep it up, friend.
Exactly the same here
That pull and zoom on the tractor sure felt like it had some help from a decent slider. Great shot, that combination really works against the reflections in the glass. Happy Birthday.

Happy Belated Birthday young man. We are sorta neighbors as my wife and I live out in Telford. Sure do enjoy your videos and the music you choose is number one. God Bless you and I hope you can take some time off for yourself during this Holiday Season. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
Nathan,
Happy Birthday. I remember a video, must be three years ago now, we're you said you were 39. I have a hard believing I've been watching you for over three years. I agree with you that White Oak is far better than wolmanized lumber. Over the years I own my millwork company, I sold quite a bit of wolmanized lumber and came to learn the good grade and the very bad grades. May the LORD bless you greatly this coming year.
Happy birthday youngster !
I’ve always loved white oak as well Nathan. And many many more birthdays, you spring chicken! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

That's good to know about white oak, we don't have much in our area. We use tamarack as our rot resistant wood.

Dang...missed it by one year. But anyway...an old Irish proverb for you on your birthday. May the sun always warm your bones, may the road always rise up to meet you, may the wind always blow at your back, and may the Lord bless you so you live to be as old as you look...:-) Happy Birthday Buddy
Thank you kindly
Nice lumber. 👍
