Buu, Piccolo, Vegeta, Tien, Yamcha, Oolong... kind of. Maybe Bulma if you count when she shot Goku when they first met, but we're really stretching it there. I think the others were never his enemies unless I missed someone.

When this movie came out it was the return of dragonball after it's original end in 1997. The movie wasn't meant to build other arcs that's why this is a dragonball "Z" movie, Super wasn't a thing yet.

@@steph.reacts Keep in mind that Kid Buu and Fat Buu are pretty close in power, but Fat Buu has more restraint, slower stamina/ki recovery, and a weaker regeneration power than Kid Buu. SSJ3 Goku in DBZ was already stronger than Kid Buu, but the transformation drained his stamina too quickly for a prolonged fight, whereas Kid Buu was essentially built to prolong a fight with his nearly endless energy. Since there was a time skip, Goku's SSJ3 in this movie was probably already much stronger than it was back during the Kid Buu fight.

I think Episode 2 is worth watching.
Remember how Vegeta promised Trunks a trip to an amusement park if he could land a punch? Right before learning his son could go Super Saiyan? Episode 2 is that trip.

4 years after the death of Buu, before end of Z
Initially the purpose of this movie was to enjoy and celebrate Dragon Ball after many years of no new content. The animation and fight choreography was incredible and way above even the best Dragon Ball Z previous movies. It revived the franchise. Basically, this movie is the reason Super exists.
The whole thing with Mai and Trunks is a gag in itself because Mai and the Pilaf gang are all supposed to be in their late 30s to early 40s, they all actually used the dragon balls to ask for their youth back and shenron turned them into kids.
The pilaf gang are way older than that. They were grown ups when Goku was a child and Goku is in his 40's now. They are at least in their 50's if not older.
Actually fun fact: Vegeta is almost around the same age as bulma, he beats her by 1 year. Goku is the same age as Chi Chi.
So as youve prob read already this movie was more of a franchise comeback after 18 years. And Toriyama said he wanted "all" the characters to be in it. That is why you see those 3 people who stole the 4-star dragon ball, they were characters in the OG Dragon ball way back when Goku was a kid.
And I guess thats why it feels like filler for so much, since its a comeback it was more like "here are all the characters you loved back in modern day". But as you also pointed out they did do some set-up for the ressurection of the franchise by introducing the fact thhat there are 12 universes and that plays a big part in the modern show Dragon Ball Super

I wouldn't say god is after 3. it's more like a separate branch of transformation entirely. if I recall the explanation correctly, the blue version is just super saiyan god with the super saiyan 1 transformation, hence the name super saiyan god super saiyan.
Beerus's design is based off Toriyama's cat.

Goku 41 but actually 34 because of being dead and chamber
Gohan 21 but due to time chamber 22
Piccolo 25, chamber makes 26
That would imply Mai was 12 at the beginning of Dragon Ball, since Bulma was 16. Which is pretty clearly not the case. Taking Bulma at her word here would make Mai 19 in season 1, which is a bit younger than I would have guessed but still plausible.
I think the writers may have miscalculated one of the timeskips or something and made everyone younger than the math says
I feel like the difference in feel in "Modern Dragon Ball" vs "Older Dragon Ball" largely stems from the fact that Dragon Ball/Z established a number of tropes used in long form Shonen Anime, whereas modern Dragon Ball pulls from Anime tropes that have developed since.
Personally I think you should react to episodes 1 and 2 of super as well. Gives very heartwarming character and family moments. Especially episode 2 with vegeta having family time
Episode 1 and 2 are optional it's up to you...but you can straight up jump to 28

Super Saiyan 1 -> 2 - > 3. only Goku and Gotenks have managed to hit 3, Super Saiyan 4 is a non cannon Dragon Ball GT Concept so it doesn't exist in this storyline.then after 3 you enter into the realm of the Gods and achieve Super Saiyan God(Red hair) then Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan(Blue Hair) which is basically a super Saiyan transformation after you enter the real of the gods to achieve the divine ki energy that gives them the red hair. Side note - you don't have to enter super Saiyan 3 before you enter the realm of the gods you just have to push your body past those limits. i cant say anymore without spoiling. Hope that explains it all, its really very interesting when you think about it
This movie fully introduces God Ki into the story. A type of life energy that can't be felt by mortals, and is commonly used by beings of Divine origin like the Kais and Beerus. Which is why Goku's In couldn't be felt when he transformed into SSG/Super Saiyan God
It already was a thing in DBZ, they just didn't talk about it much. When Shin (the Supreme Kai) first shows up, they can't read his power either.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but:
The Pilaf gang makes super for me.
They do, I love their mischievous scenes xD
I like the mix of Dragon Ball humor and antics with Z action that Super had with the show and has in the manga.

If it weren’t for the fact that the pilaf gang had a couple of fairly tedious filler episodes they would be a lot more appreciated tbh
They're never going to be the moments I intentionally go back and rewatch. However, I always find them surprisingly enjoyable when they come up. Dragon Ball is just good at goofy comedy like that.

Beerus and Whis are up there with my favorite DB characters of all time. Especially Whis, I love that sassy blue man.
It actually wasn't meant to build up to later things. It was meant originally to be just a fun movie that wasn't supposed to be a start to anything, just a fun after-show movie. The later stuff came about because Toriyama started getting more ideas after this. He didn't have anything else planned when he made this. The main reason it didn't really amount to anything is because it was just supposed to introduce the idea that there is more to their universe than they knew, and Beerus wasn't meant to be evil, or surpassed, so this was the only way it could go in Toriyama's mind.
4 years have passed since Kid Buu, it's a translation error that leads the dub to insinuate only a few months have passed and Goten and Trunks are still kids because Saiyans canonically remain childlike until they reach 16+ years of age

Sometime during Android Saga, offscreen, Mai, Pilaf and doggo were turned into babies by Shenron, leading to them slowly having regrow into kids, which all sorts of silly.
They were effectively Goku's first super villains, and destroys Pilaf's whole operation as a great ape, so they're all traumatized by Goku.
I would recommend you watch episode 2 of super. it's a vegeta fulfilling his promise to trunks of taking him to a park from back in buu saga

I am not entirely sure, but i think Beerus is a God for like over 75 million years now. Designed after Toriyamas Cat he hat for years and always get better even why he was really sick, but got 15 years old anyway.
And he is actually a cool dude but never antagonize him.
And Whis is just a sweetheart.. more details in the DBS show.. which only gets good by the end.

Super Saiyan god isn't really a progression of the regular super Saiyan form, its a separate transformation entirely. However in the noncanon anime Dragon Ball GT, there's a form called Super Saiyan 4, which remains my favorite transformation.
And yeah, Goku's body adapted to the power of the super Saiyan god form, greatly increasing his power overall, letting him stay near the same power as a super Saiyan as he was as a super Saiyan god.
Kid Buu is only a bit stronger than Good Buu. Goku in SSJ3 here is probably stronger than them because it's half a year after he fought Kid Buu and he probably trained since then.
Seeing Vegeta having to swallow his pride and kiss Beerus' ass for the sake of the Earth and his family was really cool.

the red and black form you're talking about might be kaioken, which is a technique he used back in old dbz, there's nothing in between super saiyan 3 and super saiyan god

Bulma is 45 in reality. But they are just showing her younger god knows why. Bulma was 16 when Goku was 12. Goku married at 18 and had Gohan at 19. Gohan was 11 against cell and 7 years later 18 against buu. This is 4 years after buu. So Gohan is 22 and Bulma is 45. Chichi is same age as Goku - 41. BTW Goku died for a year during saiyan saga and 7 years during cell saga, so he is actually 33 years older in his body.
In Dragon Ball z Kai, they said Gohan was 9 when he defeated Cell and 16 in the buu arc

I'd guess Beerus is as old as Supreme Kai, or maybe older since that Supreme Kai was only placed by default when Kid Buu knocked off the other Kais.

Battle of gods is such a great movie in my opinion.
Gokus body adapted to the power and remembered it, increasing his base strength. That's why he was able to keep up after the power faded away
So far the transformations are Super Saiyan, 2, and three as for original series, then on DBZ GT Super Saiyan 4 was created but it never appeard again for some reason, then there is Super Saiyan God and Blue as a one up Transformation from SS God
There was super sayian 4 but that was only in gt which had been retconned out of existence.
I usually don't mind Dragonball filler but after everyone was hyped after the movie, Super just repeating it with a few bonus episodes at the end felt slow. Like starting with Kai and then going back to the original. Glad to see you're still giving the series a watch even if at times you need a separate list to consider what's filler or what was done better in a movie. I don't expect a Vinland Saga movie anytime but after I watch it I wouldn't mind seeing your reaction to it or a well made abridge.
I don't think they ever say it in the movie but the first 28 episodes of Dragon Ball Super are just a retelling of this movie and Resurrection F. In episode 1 of Super, Goku is farming and trying to come up with an excuse for Chi-Chi to let him go train on King Kai's planet instead of working, which he does at the end of the episode. And that's where he is at the start of the movie. In that episode they state it's been 6 months since Buu. So this movie also takes place 6 months after Buu.

Whis? See that halo around his neck? Yep he's an angel, that's what he is. Also, Beerus being God of Destruction, means he has been chosen to be the worker for an important part of the universe: destruction. Creation and destruction go hand in hand like a complete cycle to maintain balance. More creation than destruction would mean a strain on the resouces of the universe and more destruction than creation would mean a less progenitor species coming up.
There is a few episodes before resurrection of F that probably you should watch for context imo...
Battle of Gods & Resurrection F are basically the 1st seasons of Super but with far better animation and pacing

Beerus is way stronger than kid Buu
It goes 3 then 4 is only possible if they kept there tails. Super sayain God is just God energy inside of the host. It's not technically a Saiyan transformation. It's more like a ritual to get God energy . The blue haired form is a Saiyan transformation. It's just regular super sayain when the host has God energy in there body.

Put it simply, the Red hair is the God base form and blue is the boosted God form, like Goku base form to Super Saiyan form.
I would have prefer they just called Saiyan God for the Red hair then Super Saiyan God for the Blue, it would make it clearer.
People said the movies tell the story better... but the show has way more details. I dont understand people🤣😒 for example u can see just a fraction of beerus power on episode 1 when hes on a different planet and says "ill only take half..." he destroyed half the planet with a touch of his finger

Kid buu vs beerus wouldn't be that interesting. He would fair about as well as fat buu did in this movie, because in the buu saga the 2 versions of buu were shown to be pretty much equal when they fought.
Plus Buuhan was the strongest form buu had and he was nothing compared to Vegito, who according to Goku wouldn't be able to beat beerus.
Vegetas fight with beerus is better in the show

By the time ssj3 Goku fought Beerus He was already way stronger than kid Buu... couple of years passed and Goku had been training. Beerus would easily have ended kid Buu without any difficulty
49:37 So Super saiyan God is like a completely different line of evolution that ssj ->ssj2 ->ssj3. (In short, it's not the next form of ssj3. It's separate and in order to get it they only need ssj and do the ritual)

So the actual next level of ssj3 is ssj4 and it appears only in GT but because is not canon many just forgets about it
SSJ4 actually is considered a different branch, according to it's designer, but they called it SSJ4 for convenience (and to be more marketable).
