It should be noted that the saiyans were the most feared of Frieza's subjects. As such, the Galactic Patrol had standing orders to destroy all space pods containing Saiyans, especially Saiyan Children.
The reason this fact is relevant, in the manga Dragon Ball Minus, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman not only witnessed the destruction of Planet Vegeta, he was tasked with destroying the final Space Pod that left the planet- the one that contained the infant Kakarot. However, since the pod only contained a baby and was headed to a remote backwater planet, Jaco figured the baby was as good as dead anyway and let the pod go.
This lead to Baby Kakarot being found and raised by world renowned martial artist Son Gohan.

Fun fact. Bruce Faulconer actually wrote very few songs from the entire Bruce Faulconer score catalogue. He hired😊 other song writers and then refused to credit them. Their names are Scott Morgan (his youtube channel is Morgan Studios), Mike Smith (he wrote most of the popular themes, including SSJ, Gohan angers, and Perfect Cell), and Julius Dobos (he wrote ssj3 theme including most of the songs in the Buu arch). Julius has an electronic music project called Forgotten Future. Look it up. Its really good. Theyre all great guys, and they even formed a band, playing their popular songs live in concert. Their band is called SSJ Live. Theyre playing next in Dallas on June 8th.
The name of the band that's behind Frieza's theme song is a real band called Maximum The Hormone which is an awesome Japanese metal band who did a lot of songs for different anime, most notably the intro and endings for the second part of Death Note which made me into an instant fan. So hearing the song that is actually about Frieza got me so hyped, I almost cheered when I first saw it in theaters. ^^
Goku used all of the senzu that they would've had on Namek while he was training in space. Remember, that's why he needed the healing pod between the Ginyu and Frieza fights.
Frieza has never seen them use senzu.
The last senzu were used on Krillin, Gohan and Vegeta after Goku beat Recoome

The DragonBall Super series add some detail scenes like Freeza training partner, Gohan torture, the frog CHANGE. I think those scenes add more to the story so it is kinda sad that you guys won't be seeing them.
I prefer the Battle of Gods movie to the series arc, but will admit the Frieza return in the show had some nice touches that the movie didn’t.
But also had some of the ugliest episodes

The song playing when Frieza was in the regeneration pod was actually used in DBZA. Remember when Ginyu gave Freeza the new scouters and he asked if they had a certain "ringtone"?
I love that ringtone in it's entirety. (and the fact they brought it back here officially was awesome!)

It was Dende that was healing them back on Namek. That was the only thing Frieza took notice of which was why he blasted him

Man Dragon Ball has lost a lot in the past few years. Chris Ayers, Hiromi Tsuru, now Toriyama himself. That's just off the top of my head.

He elevated English Freeza (no I won’t use the i!) to a point that was sorely lacking from the original dub. Freeza is by far the most popular villain in DB globally, except here in America. That was the case until the writing and translation quality change, and Chris took on the character. His portrayal as Freeza was a gift that made the villain my favorite DB when he was once my least.

@DS123-gb8tf Well, I think the movie shows this too. We see other times that ki attacks CAN hurt a stronger opponent if you let your guard down. Krillin's Kienzan is the perfect example. So the laser hitting Golu when he's thinks he's won and is at his most cocky makes sense

best part was when this was out in theaters, there wasn't db super yet airing. So we had NO IDEA if Vegeta was able to transform. So when he turned super saiyen blue...the entire audience erupted lol
So idk if it was explained yet but Blue's official name is Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan which is really stupid so we all just call it Super Saiyan Blue. Super Saiyan God (Red) is a base form like Goku when he hasnt transformed. its a Base level. Blue is like transforming into Super Saiyan while in Red. Thus the mouthful of a name Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.
I just realize it by watching this now.. Back on Namek.. Goku's Aura was golden and Freeza's was blue. Now it is in reverse. Nice.
Akira toriyama and the voice actor of frieza, the one in this edit, they both have passed. Obviously Akira died very recently, but Chris Ayres died from COPD.

So like, this movie without much fanfare drops in Jaco, the Galactic Patrolman, as an old friend of Bulma's, without much more context.
See, he's actually from a short manga called "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman", which Toriyama wrote many years after he finished DB. In it, Jaco comes to Earth to look for a dangerous alien that had recently landed there to either neutralize it, or blow up the planet if it can't be found-
At the end of the story, we get the reveal (that most readers had already guessed) that the story takes place in the Dragon Ball world, with Jaco meeting a young Bulma, and the alien he was supposed to look for is revealed to have been Goku.
Sadly, this fun little Toriyama story never got animated, but starting with this movie they reference it being part of the DB lore ^^
I like how in the beginning freeza isn’t even talking about goku and vegeta when he said he wants revenge on the 2 super saiyans 😂but vegeta’s son and freeza doesn’t even know it
The Earth being destroyed is such an eerie scene. It reminds you just how easily the villains could wipe out humanity
It’s weird Frieza was brought back in pieces yet everyone else who’s been brought back to life did so fully intact with no injuries like Goku and Trucks with a hole thru their chest, Tien who had a hand chopped off, or Chiotzu and Krillian who were blown up into dust

Jaco debuted in his own manga “Jaco the Galactic Patrolman” before he appeared in Dragon Ball. Bulma’s sister Tights debuted in that same manga, and a child Bulma appeared in that manga as well, but it wasn’t her debut since that manga came out in 2013 and Bulma has been around since the very beginning of Dragon Ball decades ago. There’s also a bonus chapter called “Dragon Ball Minus” about Goku’s parents(his father you’ve already seen in DBZA’s two Bardock specials) and that’s adapted in the “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” movie.
The only real addition from the anime was that Ginyu showed up (much to Freeza's delight) and took over Tagoma, so it was Ginyu fighting Gohan.
Whis's laugh goes by the trope name Noblewoman's Laugh. Whis is one of the only positively-portrayed queer-coded characters.

Literally saw this movie in the theater when it came out. It was the first time I'd been in one since taking my wife out on a date to see the first Frozen movie. Kind of tells you how many times I go to the movie theater, doesn't it? Left that theater feeling pumped, wanting to hit a gym or just do a few miles running, but it was midnight and no place was safe anymore at that time.
Fun fact, the Voice Actor for Lord Beerus is the same person who voices Weiss’s a-hole father Jacques in RWBY
Even though vegetas fight was short, theres so much purpose to his moves. Like a controlled catharsis after decades of hatred. Kind of like gohan killing freiza instantly in fusion reborn

If you ever ever think about rewatching/rereacting to something again, I think we are getting close to makin a re-reaction to dragon balll fighterz content. Since now you will have a lot of context about what happens in the series and how it pays homage in the game.

Did you know that at 18:38 when Krillin's Phone rings it plays One Piece's first opening "We Are" cause Krillin's Japanese voice Actress also plays as Luffy the main character of One Piece. also in 2013 only 26 days before Battle of Gods came out One Piece had a very special crossover episode titled "Run, Strongest Team! Toriko, Luffy, and Goku!" it can also be called "History's Strongest Collaboration vs. Glutton of the Sea" it was a crossover with DBZ, Toriko and One Piece but due to licensing issues the English dub only just came out last year i highly recommend to check it out its Episode 590 in the Punk Hazard Arc of One Piece its super fun also you might notice some voices from One Piece Characters that you have heard in DBZ like Sanji's Dub voice actor is Trunks, Zoro is Vegeta and a billion other DBZ characters and Brook is Whis and a whole lot more.

The Cities can come back in 6 months with the Dragon Balls, as the 1 year time-limit wouldnt be up. Freezer being able to be revived by Shenron its a plothole as he has been dead for all these years, but hey, at least the movie was fun enough to justify it.
If you want to know more about how Jaco and Bulma know each other, you should check out the manga "Jaco, the Galactic Patrolman" from Akira Toriyama. Its a 12 chapter manga, that tells us the story of Jaco the Galatic Patrolman who had an accident when coming to Planet Earth for a very special mission.
Akira Toriyama said that it was one of this favorite stories to write in a good while, maybe even of his whole work. It includes a chapter called "Dragon Ball Minus" that shows us the Cannonical Origins of Goku. While "Dragon Ball Z: Bardock: The Father of Goku" has Toriyama's character design in it, he didnt write that story. He said it was cool, but too tragic for him to ever write something like that.
Dragon Ball Minus adjacent material will be covered in the future as you watch along the "Dragon Ball Super" part of this series, though. So its up to you if you want to read the manga before that.
You could also just read Jaco the space patrol and avoid the Dragon Ball Minus section.

Fun Fact: The little colored angels with Helmets in Freezer's Hell are meant to represent the singers for the Ending Theme Song for the Credits of the Movie. "Momoiro Clover Z" who is a girl group, very fans of dragon ball.

When Goku came to namek he had 3 remain senzu beans for Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta in front of the Ginyu Force.
Dende used his healing powers on Krillin, Gohan, Piccolo, and Vegeta until Frieza witnessed it while transforming into his Final Form and killed Dende so that he could never heal anyone again.
In the Super version of this, Frieza didn’t kill Tagoma. Instead, Tagoma became Frieza’s sparring partner(literal punching bag) and got stronger, coming with him to Earth to fight on his behalf. But then Ginyu is revealed to still be alive in the Namekian frog body on Earth(because unlike in DBZA, in the original story, he wasn’t squashed by Vegeta and was transported to Earth along with everyone else by the third Porunga wish) and managed to trick Tagoma into saying “Change Now” which apparently triggered Ginyu’s body switch power(you’d think that he would’ve tried that with some random person at some point and then tried to steal a stronger body later). Another difference is that in the Super version, Gotenks makes a brief appearance. Also, the writers actually remembered that Shenron grants *3* wishes instead of 2, unlike in the movie where they forgot that detail.
Yes they destroy alot of mountains in DragonBall but they also make more every time they crater someone into the ground.

In the anime version Goku goes back to base, before he gets shot by Sorbet, which is a lot better.
DefiantlynotDefinitive there is actually another version that has a cool alternative fight. Basically the guy that Frieza flung out of the ship into space doesn’t and he is here on Earth for the fight. He fights against Goten and Trucks who are fused into Gotanks and they actually have a lot of trouble with him as he is actually very strong.
However they end up like head butting him in the nethers. While he is down a odd looking frog shows up.

36:20 No. They hadn't expected to run into the kinds of trouble so they started with no beans. I'm not going to talk about all the times the healing pod in Frieza's ship was used. Goku came with a few, but used them all to heal Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin. From then on, it was just Dende. Frieza didn't know how to sense ki, allowing Dende to sneak around and heal Krillin, Gohan, Piccolo and Vegeta before Frieza finally saw him and instantly killed him.
Goku had time to rest after throwing the super spirit bomb onto Frieza. Then Goku got unfathomably mad after watching Frieza murder Krillin, so he was good to go unlike the rest of the gang.
Frieza's power is only matched by his ego and vocabulary

The only thing the show did actually better than the movie was showing just how strong Frieza actually got. In this he was basically just getting wrecked the entire time, but in the show Frieza was actually wrecking Goku for a good bit.
