- The plaintiff hired the defendant to install a vent and outlets in her bathroom. She claims she paid him for the work, but he never showed up. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant argues he spent lots of time at the plaintiff’s house preparing for the work, but then she changed her mind and now wants her money back.
Case: 31-256 - Zábava
As soon as the defendant starting talking I thought to myself, man give that woman her $300 back…all that blabbing and bullshittin
He literally tried to scam this lady...probably thought he could get over.. glad she followed through
The defendant is really at his Auto Zone job while on The People's Court! Hahaha
😂😂😂
I can smell that Auto Zone scent through my laptop.
Gotta get wifi where you can.
Lol
😂😂😂
The defendant's hostile vibe had me on edge during the entire case. Just makes me nervous.
Lol!!!! The question for the judges at the end was so good because their banter was really funny to watch 😂😂😂
Too funny 🤣🤣
Another "the cheap comes out expensive" case!
I love when she blurts out Spanish sayings "La barata sale cara"
The judge talk at the end was so wholesome.
WAIT… Is Conner appearing on the People’s Court, while on break, sitting in the supply closet at work? 🤨😒🙄😂
No way!!!😱🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂 OMG
So here’s where things get funny…. My new fav line
Use a local electrician that is licensed and bonded. If there's no state license number on the truck, forget it.
why pay home advisor when yelp , google , and craigslist are all free to find service providers .
Years ago had someone threaten to sue my dad over a plumbing issue. Claim was that a fitting was poorly glued and 15 years later the leak was discovered. Their insurance company contacted him with a claim. My dad knew the people involved were sketchy. They bought it from the people he originally sold it to. I contacted the insurance company requesting to inspect the part and for the license number of the plumber who diagnosed the issue. The insurance company kept trying to fax pictures of the part and ignored the request for the license number. After a few weeks the insurance company was sent a certified letter informing them that, because of their refusal to allow physical inspection of the part and the use of unqualified, unlicensed plumbers, plus the failure of the owner to allow my dad to mitigate the damages, we consider the matter closed. I also pointed out that, if they choose litigation, they will have to explain their refusal to provide the information and their client's refusal to contact my dad to allow him to mitigate the damage. They did not contact us after that. The house was well out of warranty, and although they might have been able to sue on the basis of a latent defect, their failure to use a licensed plumber and their failure to allow us to see their evidence would have been enough to sink their case. Crappy dark grey on black pictures of a fitting is not the same as the physical inspection of that fitting. I suspect they tried nailing something to the wall and hit a pipe and wanted someone else to pay the bill. An unglued fitting isn't likely to hold for years, it would have failed on the first pressure test before the drywall went up.

I hope he's done working for them as soon as they see this case! If Home Advisor checks into some of their previous cancelations involving him, I bet, they will find many more side jobs completed by him and his pals? The judge couldn't finish her question and he couldn't wait to interrupt to lie?
Omg the question at the end lol 😆 quickest way to start bickering
I've never experienced a love that John and Marilyn have for each other. It's sooo obvious. Love the both.
Thanks for the comment.
Aww ... a long term married couple listing each other's faults, so endearing!
They really are a sweet couple, and it's proof you can learn to live with the little things, even though they may be annoying!
This case is just another reminder of why you cannot trust anyone these days. It really sucks to have to live this way.
They both were defrauding Home Advisor and knew that what they were doing was wrong. If you are dishonest then you cannot trust anybody and nobody can trust you.
This defendant is under the illusion he didn't cheat anyone. When you say don't tell home advisor and just deal with me, you are in fact cheating them. This doesn't look like his new company is making a good name for himself.
this isn’t his 1st time doing something like this either.
What did she expect hiring Slim Shady Home Repairs LLC 😂
@@Channel-JJ, LOVED! Your comment! THANKS FOR THE LAUGH!😂😂😂
why pay home advisor when yelp , google , and craigslist are all free to find service providers .
he figured if a person is willing to pay almost 300 bucks to home advisor for something that most people could find on the internet for free , then that person is probably willing to give him easy money too .
LOL!!! The question at the end was too funny!! JM is my husband alll the way!!! Put the cap back🤣😂
He didn't forget to mail her a check he was never going to do the job or reimburse her which is why he told her to cancel it on HomeAdvisor so he could get away with scamming her
He lied about the home advisor commission and he is a crook. Good judgment
Smh..... contractors have such a bad rep. Yikes I'm doing renovations soon 😪
unless it's major work buy some books watch some decent youtube videos and do it yourself.
Yes! I’m in other process. Read all of the reviews, check BBB, get 3 qoutes or more, ask for pictures, ask for references if needed. It’s similiar to a job interview. Congratulations on your remodeling!❤️
As long as you do your research get references and make notes on anything wrong don’t pay till job complete etc. in fact go back and watch some other cases so u know what others did wrong lol
I like how ppl in the wrong try to tell the judge don’t believe your lying eyes lol
"My family members are gonna take care of it,".......(cut to 5 months later when she's suing her family members on the people's court.)
Come on you know Uncle Bubba and cousin T'Quan are go'n knock out that job quick.

I don’t watch that show and I know who your talking about because I do remember seeing the commercials 😆.
Just an observation, people hang a tennis ball from the ceiling of garage to let driver know when to stop car. It usually taps the driver’s window. 😉
True story.. my Dad did this in his garage so he would never hit the wall with his bumper
It always makes me laugh when people do that. Like… learn the size of your car. The real world doesn’t hang tennis balls for you 😂 Unless you ONLY park in your garage I guess
Love seeing a loving couple bicker. Marriage isn't always made of good times and it's loving someone enough to get past their "faults" that makes a marriage a marriage.
Nice that he is at Autozone or whatever to testify in court. 😆
Forgot to give her money back. I’m sure he’s got so much money in his bank accounts he just forgot to pay her back lol
He kind of showed his follow through wasn't there. Even before she contracted with him. He had a contract with home advisor. He wasn't only willing to break that contract. He wanted the customer to break their contract with home advisor also. Funny he didn't fulfill his end of her contract either. Then the best one was the verbal agreement. He agreed to sent her the money back but he didn't follow though with that either.
“That’s medical” LOL
So he wanted to refund the customer to keep her happy since he's just starting out, yet hasn't done it in all this time. Now suddenly he feels he shouldn't have to refund her. What happened to keeping the customer happy? Yeah he's a liar and a cheat. She joined him in that and ended up paying for it.
Not just that. He says she contacted him to ask the money back, how someone that literally calls you is not in touch to have the job done asap ? He even dared to lie about the fee stuff.
That's good continue to blame the victim like w rape
Why does she keep bringing up home advisor, she has to right to cancel them and hire any independent contractor or any individual that is suited for the job in which she needs, they then have the obligation to complete said work😑🙄 end of the story!
Clearly because she had went thru them in the first place and because she got in connect with someone THROUGH home advisor, they are cheating them out if commission. She never would've found the work if they didn't do the work. And if she had stayed with them and he didn't show up, it would be on record with them and she would've been given her money back without going thru all this. Her circumventing home advisor allows him to cheat more people. The gact that you need that explained to you and can't understand why she is bringing it up, says something about how you do things.
@@honestyisadyingvirtue 1st.. learn how to spell properly before you address me, secondly home advisor gave her a full refund ignoramus so the fact that you didn’t get that really speaks to your understanding of this case but I digress because like I initially stated your spelling is subpar sooooo you probably really didn’t get it anyway! BYEEEEE🥴😆😊
@@janelle_111 ooooo going after my spelling on a u tube comment, where spelling doesn't matter and phones auto correct spelling often...you must feel so so smart!! Good for you!! If you were able to read it, you'll survive.
And to your point of the refund, that's what she was trying to explain to her. See how easily she got her deposit refunded? Well if she hadn't gone along with his plan to cheat out home advisor of their commission, once he gave her a quote, she paid and he didn't show, she could've easily handled it with home advisor and been given her refund as easily as they refunded her deposit. Instead she still doesn't have the work done, she had to wait to try and collect, she had to pay to file this case, etc. She was trying to teach her a lesson about what happens when you try to go around the system she chose to use and didnt think about consequences of. Seems like she got it but clearly that lesson is lost on some people...not that hard to figure out. Don't call me names, like a 6 year old, because I was able to get it. It's okay!
@@honestyisadyingvirtue opp😑 move around👊🏼
They are both adorable. Love the judges!
The judge is feeling like a real know-it-all in this episode
He is a scam artist. Period!
Home advisor please don't use this contractor ever again!
She kept calling and no one showed up but he claims she didn’t answer the other electrician yea right lol
That’s why I don’t shop at Autozone
😂😂
@Tiger Bandaid because this guy works there
Oh the shade 🤣
Geez judge with the rhetorical questions and making the plaintiff answer them…like cmon
She has a duty to comply or you keep her money? That doesn't make any sense!
He takes his 30 min lunchbreak at his auto parts store job 🏬 storage room for a court hearing about his other side hustle where he jipping ppl? The boldness lol
Hey, hey, hey you kids!! Quit your fighting and pointing fingers!!! Settle down or no ice cream! ;)
They use a GFI in that situation and any electrician should always be able to install that. This man is ridiculous, excuse after excuse, and then he keeps her money for doing nothing!! In what world does this idiot live in??!! He's shady. Home Advisor shouldn't refer any work to him!! If he's just starting out his business, I don't think he'll go very far.
Conversation between Marilyn and her husband at the end: Her little look and tone when she said, "Anything else?" tells me that he should be really careful about what he says next.
It makes me so happy when Judge Marilyn quotes "My Cousin Vinny" ^_^ (@3:54)
Wonder if that question caused a kerfuffle after the cameras turned off
Home Advisor charges now? 🤔 It’s been years since I’ve used them, but I’ve never paid a fee when I connected with, and hired contractors from their site. I was actually using them back when they went by another name (which I can’t remember).
I know I was like what 🤣
Never pay first. Who doesn't know this.
I think we can name one person 😆
Pretty sure it was a deposit though. So that’s pretty normal.
It’s the shrug 🤷🏼♀️ from the defendant once he lost the case 😆
OMFG My wife is the same way with the tooth paste...drives me nuts
just buy your own or a flavor she won't use😝
They looked like they were about to fight at the end about the snoring hahahaha
Angi (Home Advisor) is a scam.
I agree. They’re scammers. My company contracted with them. They sent dated/expired referrals and charged my company for referrals not the job. Therefore, if they send you 10 referrals per week, your company is billed $35.00 per referral whether the referral is legitimate, expired or failed to materialize. I filed Formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau. They, eventually, returned my fees once I proved the referrals were old and/or expired.
HA is useless. People are too lazy to just check Yelp and call referrals.
Take note folks and do not hire this contractor for anything not even to tell you the weather!
I offered her everything, but gave her nothing. What a louse.
Loved the ending
She should not get her money back for scamming home advisers. Home advisers should get the money
The defendant broke his contract with Home Advisor, then broke his written contract with the plaintiff, then broke his verbal and written agreement to refund her, and he does shady deals with his cousin (who refused to show his face in court), I hope Home Advisor bans him from their website...
I had issues involving a handyman Home Advisors sent to me to do some work at my residence, and no money was refunded to me. Home Advisors does not refund money for poor, shoddy, or unacceptable work performed by their referrals. They mediate, but what happens is HA encourages the two parties to work it out. They also stop using people they contract with if they receive too many complaints from customers. I know because it happened to me.
The contractor in this video was trying to pull a fast one. He was clearly defrauding the customer by saying he provided the customer with a $300 refund yet he didn't do it and blamed the lady who hired him for the reason why the job was stalled. He's a crook, and I wouldn't use him under any circumstances.
No contract, bad on both sides. No wonder both cheated each other, for verbal agrees do not apply to a case like this one, written contracts work much better.
Never can finish a sentence with this judge. It's so annoying and rude.
It is like damn but she don't want anybody interrupting her
@Tiger Bandaid and it's so aggravating
Ever watch Judy or Mathias?
Maybe that’s why she has stayed married that long . Husband knows that he isn’t allowed to finish his sentence , and he accepts this 😂😂😂😂😂😂
i bet the plaintiff has years of experience "blowing off a customer". LOL
why pay home advisor when yelp , google , and craigslist are all free to find service providers .
Not good PR for a "new business".
how is he supposed to prove that she failed to call the electrician?
edit: duh silly me.. by having the electrician as a witness I suppose... but still, would it not be simpler to have her submit phone records showing she called?
still tho, I agree she should get at least most of her money back
This guy is something. Says he wants to make customer happy and give money back- but he just "forgot." Then in court he says he does NOT want to give money back. These contractors cannot be trusted- ever.
I tried hard to hire some for a pretty simple job (Elect., Paint, Construction- 4 a Kitch/Bath renovation) and it was a nightmare. Those referral services are the worse too. They invite ambiguity, project creep and confusion. Their agreements are one sided to their advantage. Don't sign them! Often it is only the worse and most desperate contractors who use those services. The good ones have waiting lists 1 year long. The problem is people want work done on the cheap. She probably did too and got what she paid for. Get licensed and insured contractors on good recommendations from a friend. Verify everything including all permits- have them pull them. Talk with your town permit office and construction inspectors- they actually can be your friend. They know about contractors and what work needs to get done.
Happy the nice plaintiff won!
Cracks me up when they say I tried to help her out and gave a lower bid. How the hec does it help her out if you don’t do the work. 🤔
I love JM she’s so thorough
I had a somewhat similar experience with an electrician, even though it wasn't through Home Advisor. I needed some work done (still do) and the electrician came by, looked at what needed doing, said he'd check to see if he had the needed equipment, and that was the last I saw of him. This was back when the first financial assistance was paid by the government. Luckily, I never paid him anything (he didn't ask for any) to do the job. He never contacted me again, nor could I ever get him to answer any calls.
he may have got some money from the govt just for going to your place and looking .
@@marleonetti7: I sincerely doubt it. In a way, I might have dodged a bullet, because I'm not even sure he's a licensed electrician, as he has never advertised his services anywhere.
I hope that Home advisor takes him off their list. Both people were cheaters.
What is up with Harvey's obsession with the word "louse"?
If she would have stayed thru home advisor they could have taken care of it all. Shady shady shady they were both trying to get something for nothing
I worked for a contractor that pays Home Advisor for referrals. I was not aware that the customer had to pay Home Advisor for using their services.
Basically the contractor rolls that fee into their bill. So on paper they are paying but in reality the customer is.
I wonder if his electrician buddy works at AutoZone too
people want to take short cuts
when it ends in tears they come to court crying
its not great when your 'just starting out' that your doing bad things
cheating the referal company out of their cut then leaving a customer to hang out to dry
hes a bad guy
Flip top toothpaste tubes. Problem solved.
That’s what I did 🤣

It is your fault, you did not show up to do the work, I do not believe she failed to call your electrician either, for she wanted the work done. You are starting your business on the wrong foot.
The defendant looks like somebody but I can't put my finger on it. Someone please reply. I think we can all figure this out together.
I just ff to the end.
choose your words very carefully john
That eyebrow though...🤨
They should have BOTH been made to pay Home Advisor $300.00 *each* because they BOTH scammed that company out of provided services!!! This ordeal begs the question to how many times has the defendant done this to the Home Advisor Company.?.
Just remove "off" from title 😆

3:30 how can you ask the man a question and not let him answer it? WTF!
Lol she ask him a yes or no question
