Two defendants are greedy and ignorant AF. They think everyone is as stupid as they actually are.
These two Defendants have NO IDEA how to be a landlord. I'm so happy for the Plaintiff- she did everything correctly.
Yes! The continue to sound like complete idiots… but did she have the authority to use the security deposit as part of the rent?!…
Well since you state the security deposit can’t be used as rent and there are no damages… Are you returning the money?! Idiots
Yes, they clearly need to take a course on being a landlord, because the judge took her time and explained it to them and they didn't want to accept her explanation and showed their greediness.
Those two were greedy AF. Good for plaintiff. They still got their rent from the other tenant’s deposit and they STILL want to keep plaintiffs deposit. They keep pulling sh*t like that they’re going to be in court a lot.
@@rocknurse100 Omg! Exactly! Ugh! Greedy, GREEDY!
I was hoping she would end up with double because the letter never went out with her departing about the deposit..that really would have pissex them off and taught them a lesson..
Ugh, two greedy adult children, feeling entitled their dad’s property. I don’t even understand how they can feel right to keep the deposit when they’re out almost zero.
Sickening
I strongly suspect the defendants knew FULL WELL that the plaintiff had communicated with both the building manager and the father - they just wanted to keep the deposit. It seems quite unlikely to me that they did not at least communicate with the building manager. AND even if they didn't - they DID KNOW that the place got rented - and they were only out of pocket a couple hundred dollars. They should be grateful the place rented and they didn't lose any months. They should also be grateful that the tenant didn't decide to stay and just stop paying the full rent - they did not have to go through eviction proceedings.... either way - really ungrateful landlords. I hope karma catches up with them.

These idiots were so blinded by $$$ they couldn’t appreciate what she did for them. Son at the end STILL wanting another thousand more dollars from the plaintiff for the other tenant even though they kept her deposit!!! Outrageous.

I feel sorry for dad, I have a feeling he'll be put in a nursing home soon and these kids will be fighting each other over his property. The defendant's are so focused on money they can't see or understand the facts. I can believe the ex-husband/ property manager didn't tell the ex-wife I imagine he does his best to avoid her.

i don’t get why the father isn’t mentally there enough to be in court but is to be dealing with tenants? surely, he should either not be dealing with tenants if he’s as bad as his kids claim and never communicated about his tenant leaving to them or he can stand with his kids in court at least. it’s so odd, the defendants are assholes and had a terrible attitude esp the woman either way
I’m a property manager and it’s a shame how this case played out. The tenant did the right things here. She communicated advance notice and attempted to make the landlord whole. Despite her roommates job loss she paid her portion, left the apartment in good condition, and took photos to help them get it shown/rented quickly. A lot of tenants would have been like “I’m out and that’s a you problem”. It’s even worse when you think this move out happened because of Covid through no fault of the roommate.
It’s worse that the actual landlord isn’t in court. If they are letting him make decisions and run the business he should be there. These defendants have no business being landlords. They are just about collecting the money and don’t get their role. They also don’t understand the law or their leases. The two defendants are trying to manage the money rather than actually managing the business. Honest landlords don’t treat good tenants this way.
I think it's even worst that she had to pay the $200 they are out because they chose to rent it at a lower amount! Probably rented it to a friend at the lower rate, that's not a her problem!
I have to agree. I’m surprised that the judge didn’t hassle them about their father or the ex not being there since THEY are the ones who did most of the negotiating with the tenant.
That’s fair,@@kimmccormack9905
Why do they continue to argue after the decision? They're not out any money and they get to keep the deposit. The only person out money is the plaintiff.
@James: It's called the non-curable disease: *Greed*

The 2 siblings were never involved from the beginning. They tried so hard to be right after the fact. Now they know if dad & the ex can't run the business there is a personal
situation. Good decision.
They get a tenant that paid her rent and kept the apartment maintained and they still wanted to be greedy. These are the landlords that deserve shitty tenants that stay months in a place without paying and leave the place trashed.
Ya, and bring bedbugs in lol
Yes. Every single Landlord has tried to cheat me out of deposit.
I had to take each one to court and won every single time.
Landlords swear they can do whatever they want I’m so happy for the plaintiff
It wasn't worth fighting? Yes it was
Didn't you find it funny that the defendants say their father's testimony wouldn't be reliable, but every time the father was mentioned they quoted their father. If he is incompetent to verify the plaintiff's version, how is he competent to verify their version?
The defendants were FOS.
The defendants are such scumbags! I'm glad to see that nice plaintiff win! People are just rotten and greedy
Why are these two trying so hard to nickel and dime the plaintiff out of money?
The defendants are ignorant of the law. The plaintiff didn’t use her roommates portion of the security deposit for June’s rent. It was forfeited (by the roommate) when she didn’t pay her portion of the rent for June. What about that aren’t they understanding? 🙄 🤦🏾♀️
Seriously, simple as 1-2-3…defendants are ridiculous!!
It was like talking to a brick wall. Nothing was getting through to them. 🙄
@@joannasmith9833 No they’re just worried about how much $ they can put in their own pockets.
These two defendants are cluelessness. They wanted to have their cake and eat it too! The daughter was trying to be combative and the Judge shut her down smooth!!
IMO, The landlord shouldn't have gotten the two hundred, it wasn't the plaintiffs fault that they rented the apt for the one hundred dollar decrease. The landlord should be responsible for the $200.
That was my thought. Since when does real estate go down in value?
Because the lease had an end date and the renter didn't pay the agreed upon amount all the way to that date . So landlord lost $200. Now if its after the lease end date than you would be correct.
@@dennisroldan6224 Bullshit, the landlord is the one that rented it 100 dollars less than what he was getting, that's on him not the tenant.
I don't understand why landlords treat great tenants this way. I also now know I would have won my case whether I had shown up with all my documentation or not, as my landlord just decided he was keeping my deposit and never sent me anything stating why. Took me a year and a liein against him to get it, but it was hard earned money.
Plaintiff looks very honest. She was right.. Im glad she won.
His question at the end proves he doesn't get it. They need to sale the properties because they clearly have no understanding of landlord tenant law's.
Yes, because if they keep f-ing with tenants like this they’re going to keep getting sued.
The landlord stating that the Tennant can't use her room mates security for the portion of unused rent.. but quite okay keeping it himself despite no damages. He wants to apply the letter of the contract to her but not himself.
Why did the landlord expect the paying roommate to pay for her roommate that bailed? lmao. Just give the girl her money back and go
Pure craziness.
Why would she be obligated to pay her roommates rent?! They're just being ridiculous and need to work on the communication between themselves because it's obviously not the best.
Right! And if they took the other roommate that got laid off to court they would be the first to say they kept the security deposit for June rent since there was no damages. Get your story straight 🤦🏽♀️
@@diamond2241 they're just ridiculous. I don't even think they should've been allowed to keep the $200. Renting it for less didn't have anything to do with her.
They are both on the lease so they are jointly and severally liable for the entire rent. Landlords do this so that, if one of the roommate tenants drops the ball they can sue any or all of them collectively to recoup what is owed. While they can sue any/or all collectively they can only collect the sum owed once. That is why the plaintiff could technically be held accountable for the roommate’s half of rent, if the defendants didn’t have the roommate’s security deposit to apply to the June shortfall. You note they didn’t sue either of them for either the shortfall in the June rent, or the rents for July & August.
Even though their own lease says the security deposits can’t be used for last month’s rent, that is exactly what they did with the roommate’s half since you notice they didn’t return it to the roommate. If they are going to hold the plaintiff to the no security can be applied to the rent then, in addition to sending a letter & cheque to the plaintiff outlining why they were keeping her deposit (minus what she said she would pay to offset their loss) they should have also sent a letter to the renter/roommate who left with a cheque for her security deposit back which, of course they didn’t do.
@@TravelingBibliophile she can’t be liable for the rent if you are keeping the security deposit for the rent. Once they admitted they never returned the roommates security AND admitted there was no damages.. it was over for them. No leg left to stand on. They never even tried to sue the other roommate or mentioned being damaged by her departure. They were simply just being greedy. Case closed.
@@oodief88 I agree and did not understand that either. If they would have chose to rent it for $1500 would she have had to pay $600 per month left of the lease. Why was that a cause of action? I work in property management and real estate so I’m going to have to look that up.
Landlords that don't know the law, and they get to keep the money on any feeling they have.
Omg landlords are so greedy and disgusting.
They didn't want to return the plaintiff's security bc they felt the rent should be paid and not come from the security. Despite that the roommate's security could and did apply. But then I doubt they wouldve given the roommate her security back either. Despite that it was rented the following month. As the female defendant states, she didn't think the plaintiff deserved it. Plaintiff has permission to break the lease. Just because they have 4 people who have zero communication between each other to determine that is ludicrous.
They rented the apartment for 100 less and the woman left it better than she founded lol 😂 what a joke
I’m dying at the way Judge Milan dipped out when the defendant tried to ask a question 😭😭😭
Her left eyebrow has a life of its own!
I’m watching PC on TV right now. Season 25 episode 22. Plaintiff and her son have matching fake eyebrows.
Those people are stubborn. They have no business being landlords if they aren't going to follow the law.
And they need to first learn the law.
The defendants just didn't get what she was putting down. Greedy!
Sounds like the dad is sharper then his kids. I am confused how the landlords don’t understand what the tenant and judge were saying. They were trying to double dip.
JM explained it very plainly. They were not out anything but the $100/month fir 2 months, because they kept the roommates security deposit. Dense.
Then asked how was she able to use the money on the other roommates behalf.. how is she using money if she paid her half of rent for the month of June? They are truly greedy humans. Like someone else said.. they will definitely fight over the inheritance when the time comes.
I don't think the previous tenet should be responsible for that. They decided to rent it for less. Real estate does not go down in value.
@@mexicanspec agreed BUT she had a lease for a certain amount so she has to pay. But it does make me question why they rented for less.

They wanted to keep the security deposit for NO REASON?! 🤣😂.
The un-painted place, that was finished by the tenants should have covered the $200.00 for labor to finish it! It seems strange that they rented the finished apartment for less?
Defendants are such scammers and they know it.
They'll be scamming their father soon if they haven't already.
These defendants are a joke trying to keep her deposit! They knew they owed her, and that is prob. why they decided to get POA over their father, so he wouldn't be the one coming to court and admitting he talked to the plaintiff! If he was able to talk and discuss things right before she moved, he can be in court!
These are the kind of kids who get parents declared incompetent so they can control their assets. Low down and greedy.
Those two just couldn't grasp that both the Plaintiff and her roommate each paid a deposit.
Either the dad is active in the renting business or he needs to let his kids handle it. But he gets in, muddles the waters by telling the tenant one thing and his kids another.
I'm willing to believe that the dad did discuss things and it's why he wasn't present for the court case. Totally understand he's 92 but they easily could've had him appear to speak and say one way or the other.
You know what it sound like the father runs the show and trying to pass it to his kids. The kids are greedy and tried to keep the 1k for themselves

These defendants cannot be this dense....
So leases will typically state if you break your lease you will forfeit your security deposit. However the fact in this matter is that the former tenant appeared to have been let out of her lease if a new resident was found, which one was. So they cant now say ok yes we will agree to let you out of your lease then turn around and not honor that. They played clueless, but I honestly think they didn't think she'd fight it.
The defendants are either stupid or deliberately playing stupid. She paid her rent. Her roommate didn’t.
The defendants seem shady ijs. If u can't trust your dad to speak for himself how can u trust him when he says he didn't speak to her about her leaving. Mayb he has dementia

It's hard to know if the defendants are stupid, greedy or both. Awesome plaintiff, from all appearances an upstanding human being ! Cute too ! Judge Milian did her usual great job, even when the defendants clearly didn't produce the father because it would have hurt their chances of stealing from the upstanding, outstanding tenant...I kinda want the defendants punished for their wrongdoing whether it be stupidity or more likely greed !
Also.... I actually wish that the judge slapped them with the no itemized list of any damages showing why they're keeping the security deposit in the 14 days!!! That is the type of case that she could have gotten it had the plaintiff asked for it. Darn it lol
Wow the defendants were still clueless after the verdict smh like the judge broke it down to them and yet he still had questions
I'm a landlord and the judge is right. I don't understand why these two landlords don't get it. They've already been made whole. As a landlord I always strive to be fair. I disagree with the 200. Why should the tenant be liable for changes in the rent? What if they raised the rent? Would the tenant be liable for that as well?
Neither the father or the property manager appear, only people who have no first hand knowledge at all? The defendants are liars and hustlers who just want to keep money they’re not due.
