In Ca we cannot detain with the exception of shopkeepers privilege. As far as wearing a vest Guard like police are shot and killed while on duty.
Any citizen can make a “citizen’s arrest” and state laws may vary, but generally it needs to be a felony. In TN a citizen can kick down someone’s door if they run inside after committing a felony, and it’s legal
Security officers do have the authority to arrest and detain depending on client and state laws.

I had a co-worker just like this… we worked security for an HoA. We were 100% rental cops. I carried only a flashlight. My Co-worker walked around in a vest, pepper spray, fake badge, hand cuffs, a knight stick he home made, a fake hand gun with an orange tip if he pulled it out. Not to mention how he talked to people… he straight up talked down on people and treated everyone he didn’t recognize as a resident as a “suspect”… he got fired when he crossed a line and threatened to arrest someone. Our protocol was to call police and watch from distance.
Security Guards = Observe & report.
"If you touch me and you go to jail, Mr. Security Guard."
"You will be fired and arrested."
That's what the cameras are for so they really don't need people like this

That one douche in Florida with the funeral motorcade company, who keeps getting arrested for impersonating a police officer, carries one just like it. I highly doubt Walgreens would employ an armed guard. Too much liability. Dudes a poser. And a potential stalker. The manager not knowing what's going on leads me to believe he runs this game to get a look at their ID, and get their name and address. "I need to detain you, I need to search you, I need your ID." Everything he sees in cop body cam videos, plus he's got his own body cam videos to go home and jerk it to.

This man is a disgrace to security, on behalf of security officers, we do not claim him. We do not ask for ID, and if someone stole WE DO NOT stop them physically unless they start attacking others. And if we don’t have proof of them stealing then we mind our own business and give the information to the police.
Legally he's not allowed to harass anyone like that especially while they're still in the store! For all he knows the customer was on her way to the cashier to pay for "said" items!! You're not supposed to accuse anyone until AFTER they leave the store!! Then and only then is it 100% clear that they had no intention of paying for the merchandise! While they're still in the store, they could be on their way to pay!!

That means they have different rules, the are able to perform a take down and wvw put you in cuffs! Most of you think he's just some guard which is not true. As for the Rx-girlfriend part... well what Ex-girlfriend wouldn't take the chance to make their Ex pay out of spite in any way and she did so by making false accusations. There was no evidence of his actions regarding that! The drug part is true though. Considering that fact it's logical to assume he was working for the Security Firm hired by Walgreens after the drug part. Meaning he was trying to get his life back on track. Ok Marine here. I currently work for a respectable Secuirty Company in Louisville Ky, and I am a Patrol Officer for the company. We have Post Officers like him in multiple locations and dude does not need to wear all that. Like AT ALL. Are Patrol Officers don’t wear this much. Our carries with plates of course, body cam, taser, cuffs for the unruly people, O.C. Spray duty belt, side arm, radio and patches. I can all most bet this cat isn’t O.C. Certified, armed guard or any kind of de-escalation training. This right here is a rent a cop that needs to be taken out of the Secuirty Business ASAP. Let’s hope the company has good insurance cause this guy is a walking liability. I would get him out asap before he hurts someone or gets hurt himself.

I’ll never forget this fake ahh security guard at a Mexican store that bought a tac vest, tac boots and a “earpiece” that was literally hanging over his ear because it wasn’t connected to anything. He stared at everyone thinking he was so badass. The vest had absolutely nothing, not even handcuffs nor pepper spray and had a fake ahh, tiny walkie talkie pinned to his chest with the antenna cover broken and of course, covered his face with a punisher print on it. That has always been one of my biggest concerns working security. we have both our suits and then what we call our tactical uniforms. because you are wearing tactical gear. With my suit, i can hide everything, but in my tactical gear, my stuff is exposed, so it's about striking that balance. My go-to has always been if I haven't used it in 6 months. It comes off. But honestly, if i had one of my guys walking in looking like that, he's going home.
