Let's have a moment of silence for Buddy Baker who left us great memories.
R.I.P. Buddy Baker (1941-2015)
Buddy Baker's 1980 Oldsmobile: my favorite paint scheme of all time.
So cool to see Brock Yates doing sideline reporting for CBS here!!! I was too young to remember this, but when I started getting Car and Driver delivered on a regular basis in the late 1980s I always read Brock's articles.
That was when the cars had good designs and had drivers that where legends and had the old points system those where the good days of NASCAR
He tried to win since the 60s.... Absolutely deserved this win
1980. One of my favourite Daytona 500 of all time apart from many others.
Baker my favorite diver, miss you Buddy
Buddy Baker was, in fact, a buddy.
Yep, him made everyone else good that raced him. A good man indeed.
Baker's own lead foot outlasted a lot of his engines
Before everybody had to act like a teenager and do burnouts and doughnuts when they win. Those guys had racing class!
I hate to see anybody's disappointment. Except for Darrell Waltrip.
To this day, I still think this was the best looking car to ever win the Daytona 500.
It's between that car and Junior Johnson s Bunch car.
Wasn't it called The Gray Ghost?
@@MrSteveG58 It was!
Good times!
0:36 Boogity Boogity Boogity! Let's go racing, boys!
Darrell Waltrip's last year at DiGard as he says his famous line on his team radio.
He also won the Southern 500 this year.
Ole leadfoot Buddy
Rip
Back when manufacture loyalty meant nothing. They could drive an Olds at Daytona & Dega, a Chevy on the short tracks, & a Ford on the medium ovals
Could someone tell me which model of car he had driven at this race in 1980 daytona 500
mikula mikula Olds 442?
I think it was an Olds Cutlass.
Cutlass 442, although, i think it was Bored, out, to make it a 443. Had to get a "Baker's Dozen" in there, somehow.
Engine was the 358 OLDSMOBILE NASCAR BLOCK or a OLDSMOBILE 350 DIESEL D BLOCK converted to run on gas with modification to parts and also the OLDSMOBILE DIESEL 350 DX BLOCK as well in later years. Information can be found in a 3 series publication called OLDSMOBILE IN ACTION by Peterson publishing 1980's mid 1990's peace and much respect to you all Jason
Is that the gray ghost Pontiac?
Olds 442, but still called the grey ghost.
Or maybe Oldsmobile I guess
That Earnhardt kid has potential
At least he did not "Rattle his (Baker's) cage". Potential Bullshit Artist, maybe.
That Earnhardt kid will never make it, lol
