I'm glad someone did an objective review on these two devices instead of comparing them to gaming laptops or Desktops, which these devices should not be compared to.
*lifts the lid with a finger* yeah very objective...
The_Misanthrope what?
The_Misanthrope actually he was demonstrating the hinge quality of the laptops. I prefer the macbook hinges just because is such a breeze to open and close the lid with one hand.
I've worked on a Dell XPS 15 for half a year, and I completely agree with Greg's assessment here. Right now I own a MacBook Pro 13" (non-touch bar, slightly higher specced than what Greg has) and I enjoy it even more than I thought I would. Yes it's crazy expensive, but the sheer quality of the device is unlike anything you'll get from any Windows laptop.
Precisely reviews often take device far too out of context
The like to dislike ratio is unexpectedly positive for a video with the word "Apple" in its title.
I think you've mastered the internet!
victornpb Let the video exist a little longer. There'll be at least 1200 dislikes by tomorrow.
WRONG! There are still
/Sup3rk00lb4db0y/ You were wrong
GameAndElse I sure was
still no 1200 dis LOL
You know why Linus Tech Tips didn't upload a video like this?
Linus dropped them during the speaker test
Seriously? I might ask on Floatplane Club.
Harnoor Chima xD
lucas rem It's a joke I'm not sure if you understand that or not
Alpaca are you sure it isn't because MacBook air would be appropriate to compare to an xps 13, and a MacBook pro would be appropriate to compare to an xps 15, but the reviewer here is a moron and Linus isn't?
John Thomas o explain, this reviewer seemed to show these being similar.
2:24 in fairness, the hinge on the Dell is stiff AF because of the touchscreen, so it doesn't wobble when you touch the screen.
Oscar Castro it’s a plus in my book. Have a MacBook Pro from 2010 and the screen falls now with the slightest bump. Granted it’s almost 10 years old but still. It’s pretty dang floppy!
the hinge on the macbok is still really stiff and could easily be used as a touch screen though
Proof that a pc enthusiast can appreciate some aspects of Apple products
pretty sure the problem is most PC enthusiasts who hate on Apple never tried apple products more than 5 minutes
This is so true. I used to be one. Now I own a macbook pro
It’s all about the software experience, hardware doesn’t mean as much in a mobile environment.
I still use windows on my desktop because I like upgradability but it’s more about just getting work done rather than a nice iMac.
TheLifeStalker a few reasons a lot of PC warriors hate on Apple.
Price, Gaming, upgrading, apparently longivity, Better quality products, They don't create content which would benefit them having an Apple Mac, and what you said.
we have imacs in our school, and they are very awfull, we prefer to use our laptops
That coil whine was painful.. I'll stick to my MBP for now :)
My XPS13 doesnt have that issue. In fact, most of the people i know uses XPS13 didnt experience any of it either.
Fair enough, regardless my 4 year old MBP still works just fine :)
Nigel Tan really? my friend have it and it has the same issue. maybe it depends on the region or something :\
I bought it from Australia's dellwebsite online... and the product actually shipped/assembled from China. Not sure about other people.
I had a PC with that coil whine too...it was horrible considering My bed was on the other side of my small room...could never keep my PC on without going crazy trying to sleep
Ive just started my first year of computer science, which one would you recommend??
hey, not sure if you'll see this but is the xps 9370 better and faster than the maxed out Macbook pro 13"?
Do you ever stream games?
I don't know why Dell still hasn't fixed the coil whine. I have a XPS 15 9530 from 2014, wich has coil whine when it's plugged in. I really think Dell should have fixed this by now!
I'd like to see a comparison between the Asus Zenbook and the 13" Macbook. You can get a Zenbook model with the same specs as the Macbook (excluding the IPS panel, I think, but that shouldn't matter for a regular student) except it's 840 $ cheaper, so the comparison would be highly interesting.
I need a reliable laptop to use with my elgato hd60s to record gameplay full quality (1080p 60fps) and also edit the gameplay. With the laptop I currently have (hp beats by Dre editions) when I rewatch the gameplay I recorded it comes out Laggy because that laptop can't handle due to I believe the outdated processor. So what laptop would you recommend based off of Wat im trying to do which is start a gaming channel. It doesnt have to only be between these two either btw. I would really appreciate your input!
803nigel Acer predator Helios 300 is 1000 dollars on Amazon and it has an i7 16 gb of ram and gtx 1060
i would honestly love to see a hackintosh build from you... just sayin... if you ever need ideas for a video... i got you one right here!!!
idk why but when i look at ur face, i think of superman. is anybody thinking the same?
Ryu Chen Spiderman
I think of the actor from Man of Steel, but younger.
It's the comic book jaw, chin and hair.
Can we get an updated review for the new models? I’m a MBP user, but I love the look of the XPS. Need to know if it’s worth the switch performance wise (editing, python programming, and leisure)
Hey Greg! Love the content. Was looking forward to getting the XPS. Your video came at a good time. Thanks for your input!
Thanks for watching!
Hey - I hate everything about life - what should I click at the end of the video?
cracklingice! Nice to see you man. A loved comment, you doing good for yourself!
Will be doing better to get through this hurricane with minimum damage. It keeps pushing west, but until it's north west a few hundred miles from us we can't really relax.
cracklingice Being on CZcams does count as relaxing.
Are you going to have a category 4 hurricane pass over your head in about 8 hours? I don't really think you get to define what being able to relax is in this case.
cracklingice rick and Marty online 24hours in youtube
great video mate.. this laptops are not made for gaming. they are however made for actual day to day tasks, businesses, studies and etc.. MBP for the win.
You did a very good job compare these two, really liked it. Honest, informative and not biased.
Subscribed! :)
Doesnt the big trackpad disturb typing when resting your hands on it or does it have something like palm recognition?
I'm tired of those comments wow! Dell XPS cannot open with 1 finger.. Obviously Needs to be steardy for the Touch model. and seriously... if that is a deal breaker for people. Jesus we are spoiled Lol
I have seen many reviews criticize this then praise how sturdy the hinge is. Im like sturdy hinge has a bit more resistance to open makes sense to me. People find things to complain about to complain. Similar to the coil whine I have heard mega coil whine from high end GPU's during my lifetime. The coil whine from the XPS 13 i've seen requires putting your ear to the keyboard which I am now convinced I don't use my laptop right as I have yet to find the reason to put my ear next to the keyboard to be able to hear it.
What if you're calling someone with your XPS, you need to put it on your ears. And God is that coily..
Dell could of at least designed a cutout for your fingers to grab onto. No, they couldn't even manage to accomplish that simple task.
whether they should have done it or not has nothing to do with whether this Laptop is great
myNEONCITY I like that you can't open it with one finger actually. It makes me feel like my screen is more protected because of sturdier hinges
I actually like the macbook pro keyboard, my dad got one, and i like it, i would want an antighostling version of them, it is like a mech keyboard with no trvek distance..
Hi ScienceStudio if you shake your macbook from left to right is there a rattle in there?
Was the MacBook Pro 2015 the last MacBook to include all the ports? And if so, do you guys know if Apple still has it for sale?
The 12" Macbook from 2017 does have 2nd gen. Thank. God.
Bought my xps 13 a month ago. And I have no fan noise or coil whine bullshit nothing.
Then you won the lottery.
Science Studio maybe they've changed their latest models
i just got mine today no coil whine etc so far
I've got the sky lake XPS 13 and after a few software updates I no longer get the coil whine. It was very apparent when first purchased however.
Also got my XPS 13 fully loaded (Except for 1TB ssd). No coil whine unless it's under a heavy load. I've never heard it when just browsing, programming, watching streams, etc.
Would love to see you do a comparison video with the new 2018 XPS 13 9370!
Are you gonna be looking into those 8th gen Ultrabooks when they start coming out? 4 cores/8 threads in a 15W TDP package sounds quite interesting.
300k coming up!
lol u gay
Ah Greg you just wait, #500kwhitehair is going to happen!
Loved your video, as so often :)
I'm a lifelong windows user, but I have actually always wanted to try a macbook for my mobile solution. Do you have any issues moving files around between mac os and windows 10? any compatibility issues?
Great video.... how about if you were using adobe premier? Would you rather use a MacBook Pro or a windows laptop
I like how you spent two minutes of the video making an ad on dockcase to cover up the most serious flaw of the mac, lack of ports.
And, from this video along,
the xps 13 is lighter than the macbook pro 3
has more ports
has better display
better battery life
cheaper price tag
more ram
more powerful cpu
oh and one more thing, that's a 2016 xps. Why don't you buy the 2017 model?
I also like how he's comparing an ultrabook to a pro grade laptop and then complains about the compromises done to make it thin.
For an apples to windows (kill me now) comparison he should have had a Thinkpad instead of the xps.
Peter Lyu why the lack of ports? They have as many USB ports as the last MacBook Pros with standard usb a 3.0 ports. People don’t see that. The touch bar MacBook pros have more everyday useable ports than before. Yes you had more ports 2 thunderbolt, 2 usb 3, headphone jack, a card reader and a hdmi port but who used all of these on a regular basis?
If he compared an MBP to let's say my I7 8700K Origin Laptop it would do circles around it and most likely cheaper maxed out. That's why he's picking on a Sub 800 dollar Ultrabook LOL.
Better display is subjective. I think the MBP has a better screen in areas that are noticeable/matter most.
The MBP screen is much brighter, over 500 nits compared to ~350 on the XPS.
The MBP screen is also 16:10 aspect ratio, which for a lot of people, is better for productivity than 16:9 which the XPS uses.
Dude it's a device he brought with his own money and by paying a huge price And then says his opinion pretty well that's the whole point besides have you even used a Mac?
A pretty fair comparison, thanks for this. So it seems the main reason you prefer the Macbook is because of FCP, which is obviously very important as a content creator. I recently bought a new laptop and went with the XPS 13, and am loving it so far. I'm not a content creator and use my laptop mainly for running my small business. I agree the user experience is still a bit better on Macs but Windows machines have improved a lot in recent years, especially with battery life. I get about 8hrs per charge. I have had a bit of coil whine but not too often so I'm not bothered. It's getting harder to buy a bad laptop these days, I could have gone with the Macbook but decided to save some money.
I get coil whine really bad myself, its usually while I'm typing with my ear stuck to the keyboard. Moron.
That mat you have on the table under the laptops, where did you get that? i would like to get one myself
I've got the XPS 13 and I only hear the coil whine when my ear is against my keyboard. I probably got lucky or maybe they fixed it. I also repasted mine and the fans almost never come on (unless i'm doing something very heavy). There's a 1080p version non-touch version of this laptop which has much battery battery life.
Intel really gotta step up their game
especially since their competition is ryzen (get it.......)
Josh Hutchings thx
Lol
I must say, Apple does so many little things right that other companies just fail to.
The keyboard, the trackpad, the speakers. It's not rocket science to do them right I'm positive. Yet you won't find any laptop with speakers as good as Macbooks. Trackpads as good as Macbooks.
It's such a shame. No matter what anyone says, Apple *cares* about the user experience and the price tag for Macbook products, for these little nifty things alone, is very well justified.
If Apple cared about user experience they would include standard ports.
Personally I prefer the trackpad in my XPS 13 to a MB Pro same with the sound. More travel on the keys is better as well and prefer the rubbery carbon fiber feel to cold or after long use hot metal near my wrists. I have tried both and skew the opposite of this review. Not to mention I can't find a $700 MBP with QHD Touch screen I7 256gb SSD which is what I paid for my XPS 13.
But I hate how they do the rest wrong, limited io, soldered ram and ssd, no more magsafe, crapy gpu...etc... Why can't companies just make a laptop that does the little things right like the macbook but give us the specs of a razr blade!!!!
Samuel M Cohen Why would you prefer objectively worse sound?? Sure the trackpad can be prefrenced, but why would you want tinny speakers?. Plus no xps 13 is 700 out the store, you can't compare a used price to a new one. If thats so then I could get a mbp for $15 from a guy one day if I'm lucky, one more thing, the wrist rests don't get hot by design, I don't think any laptop's wrist rests get hot. I have had several laptops and MacBooks
Sic Semper Beats but I can compare used to used and there's no MacBook Pro that comes close to 700 unless you are talking several years older. Not to mention worst processor storage space. The only thing I feel like the MacBook Pro has is better wifi which for $20 I'm fixing that Tuesday. I did lots of listening of the speakers from 0 to 100% and I don't hear the distortion that Salazar mentions and I feel like for a laptop it has a very full sound for what it is not to mention when the hell do I ever blast my laptop at full volume. Even if subjectively the MacBook Pro is better at sound it would be like comparing i'll Lamborghini and a Ferrari and going oh Ferrari tons better gets 3/10 of a mile to the gallon more on gas people don't buy laptops and in general high-end sports cars for speakers or gas mileage. And the worst thing of the MacBook is iOS I can't stand it maybe if I get install windows on it I prefer it but probably not since I feel like that's a selling point they try to have and why would I put windows on a inferior product. I love my iPhone 7 Plus hates iOS when it's on any type of computer form.
How long is the average battery life you get on the MacBook pro and can you pls make a video on macbook pro 13 vs macbook pro 13 with touchbar
Whats your opinion on the matebook x? I use one for my IT program and it seems to work great. 7500u variant with no fan, can get warm but not hot.
macOS pro tip. Don’t use chrome. Safari is far superior in my opinion, even over the windows version.
Yeah like I said, Chrome utilizes resources in questionable ways.
Science Studio :) Great videos man, big fan.
safari in high sierra is excellent. they made great job.
Yeah, I love the force touch previews!
Yeah! Opera based browsers are awesome! DSi Browser is the best!!!1!1111111!!!1111!! (Sarcasm intensifies)
Science Studio Disagree on the carbon fiber soft touch, I find the softer feel to be much nicer and way better for long laptop sessions, my hands used to feel pretty raw with the aluminum for long periods of time, no to mention the heat transfer to the top aluminum sheet as the laptop is running for 14-18 hours straight working, where you can feel the heat warming and pruning your hands through the keyboard. Disagree about the keyboard, I don't think the XPS feels "membrane-like" and the greater travel give you more tactile touch, but I'm comparing my XPS 15 fully loaded to a Macbook Pro 15 Fully loaded. Also the XPS 15 I have doesn't have coil wine, that sounds like it'd be annoying. Maybe the processor in the 13's can't dissipate heat well, but the 15 is super quiet, most of the time, even with when the fan comes on during heavy load. Yes Final Cut uses the hardware better, performs better in UX and exports more quickly than Adobe Premiere. And if that is the only thing you use your laptop for, than your conclusion is right. But you're not considering the performance differential in all the other programs, Illustrator, Lightroom, Photoshop, After Effects. If you don't need after effects, then Final Cut is fine, if you do need After Effects, then Premiere is the better choice, and Premiere runs better on the Dell. That is a true apples to apples comparison. In the future add a Premiere vs Premiere segment, because not everyone, even those on macs, only use Final Cut.
The performance differential between these two laptops in Adobe programs is negligible apart from the system RAM disparity. Core i5 and i7 ULP CPUs are hilariously similar in even the most intensive daily tasks.
Sterling Sanders A well thought out comment
Agree this felt like a very biased video. Should be titled Apple fanboy compares Apple laptop to non Apple laptop which do you think he will prefer.
somewhat true but not really they would perform about the same if you compare a 15 inch mbp to the dell xps15. I have both although my MacBook Pro 15 is 2014 it exports around the same if not 20 seconds behind the xps 15 2016. the matching year mbp and xps 15 use the same cpus so why would it be any faster? Windows isn't just simply faster by default
Sterling Sanders if you had a MBP fully loaded from 2016 with an XPS 15 fully loaded from 2016 you’d know that the MBP is much faster. The XPS 15 my friend has is fully loaded. I have an older 2015 MBP. We both record music and we’re in the studio together a lot. His XPS never had nor has coil whine but the fans do kick up really fast, my MBP on the other hand doesn’t and runs Ableton better then his maxed XPS 15. Believe me, having a “whirring” laptop on the console when recording is a nightmare. One thing that really helps is macOS and how low profile it is, when you use VSTs, like say Serum, which is notoriously CPU heavy, the optimization difference between the two OSs really starts to show. The MacBook in most “Pro” use cases will be faster. But that’s to be expected, as Apple’s main market are the power users, especially with their laptops. Having something that you can jump between sets or studios with that just always performs insanely well and works in any environment is great.
Thank you for mentioning Dockcase!
Thanks for the nice review! :)
Btw, could you give me some advice please? I'm planning on getting one of the two
Let's say you were a display fanatic, which would you pick? Which display is more entertaining to our eyes, Retina Display or the QHD? and why do you think so?
Cause the stereotype to date is that nothing beats Macbook Pro's display beauty, even though QHD is already around.
Would you ever consider doing a Hackintosh build?
thats such a hassle. Its so much work to initially get it to run, and to keep it running smoothly, and then there is the times when new MacOS updates comes out.... Nightmare. It's not reliable at all to have a Hackintosh as a primary computer, but I guess its good to have as a secondary, just for video editing and such. It's enough maintenance to keep hardware drivers on Windows updated, but running Hackintosh is like 100x worse than that, it requires time and patience when kernel crashes starts, even when you don't have any time.
LifeStalker It's not that bad once you learn to use the correct tools, but you really need to buy your hardware with MacOS in mind. Some motherboards and expansion cards work perfectly with MacOS without any specific drivers, while others require endless fiddling to get working.
LifeStalker actually, now things are waay easier, if you know how to do a good hackintosh and know your basics, upgrades wont be a problem, i had my laptop upgraded from 10.9 up to 10.12 and I only upgrade the 3rd party kexts once in 2 or 3 months (just so that im up to date with the latest). No patches are overwritten since they get patched at boot, the original os's kexts are kept untouched so that even after upgrades, i dont need to manually repatch them. Im having a near macbook pro (since my laptop has the exact specs of a MBP9,2) and my main one. I DO recommend it for fun and research purposes, but I DO NOT recommend it to be your main OS on your main machine if you're not experienced in troubleshooting issues on your own. Also, the battery life went up.
Do you know that it is illegal?
Apple won't do shit to hackintosh users.
Yo I see that OSB you play OSRS?
I used to back in college.
That's awesome account name?
Science Studio how long did you play in college?
Holy shit he played OSRS!
Hennessy RS he's one of us! One of us! One of us! One of us!
hey man i need you help, i want to buy macbook pro im a developer a beginer wich model should i buy macbook pro 2015 15’ with 16g ram model or 2017 13’ with touchbar model
Got the 2016 13" touchbar 256gb mbp pro for 700$ less than a 2017 one, It will arrive next week, Just needed some assurance on if I did the right thing, Just need it for uni, Never had a mac, Will it be good for a few years?
Despite your positive points for the macbook, which are valid, I just can't support a company that is so opposed to repairing and modifying the products you own and increases it's margins by forcing connectors on you which aren't properly supported yet, even by apple themselves, and being inconsistent. And before someone jumps at me and says "USB C is the future, they are brave for adapting it early", why is it that the iPhone does not have USB C or a headphone jack, but their laptops do? If I'm an apple fanboy and only buy apple, I have to buy multiple chargers and headphones. They don't support the technology that is USB C but use it instead to sell you a bunch of adaptors.
Exactly, even the latest iPhone X doesn't have USB type C...
DrSpychology they have apple stores that repair ur devices? What do u mean about opposing to repair. By changing the port on the iPhone they would have to change the port on all mobile devices. Honestly it's not an issue.
Wesley Lin By soldering everything to the mainboard, you as a user cannot replace anything if it breaks. Apple repairs are fine if they're covered by warranty, but many of them aren't and apple overcharges you for any repair, because they don't have repairable laptops and instead just throw out the entire board and give you a new one. Apple products are designed to not be servicable if anything breaks.
DrSpychology apple still replaces things that aren't under warranty just at a higher price. The fact that there's a specific store that is everywhere btw, that you can go to get your laptop serviced is better than any other laptop.
DrSpychology plus 90% of people who buy a laptop don't open it up.
I love the butterfly 2.0 keyboard it's so nice to the touch
Pete Horn it feels like a low profile mechanical switch it's awesome!
What do u think about editing on the Macbook Pro 13 2017 base modell? Does editing work in a simple 4k timeline (fcpx) or ist that an impossible task with a 2.3ghz , 8gb ram macbook?
A 8 year old Windows Machine could do what you are asking. Save yourself the 8,000 for the Macbook and build yourself a top tier computer for 3,000.
Whenever I type on a mbp even gen 2 switches I feel like I’m gonna smash through the deck and start poking the internals.
But Spiderman uses a Dell laptop
Yea the okay Inspiron gaming line.
Wow this is insane. Why would you spend so much of your own money to do a review? What do you do with them after reviewing them?
Alex Black he either stores or sells them for an inflated price
+Alex Black: Sometimes they're review units, sometimes they're bought from pocket.
Is MacBook Pro 13” basemodel good for graphics designing like photoshop or illustrator
@ScienceStudio Hey Greg I was wondering if you could tell me whether it is possible to charge the XPS 13 from the USB C
I hate giant track pads and i like physical left and right click. Who cares if you can open the screen with one finger.
kegrv Greyd opinions. And what about physical left and right do you find appealing? In my opinion, clicking anywhere is the way it should be
KvnS S It's easier to feel actual buttons. I cant stand modern track pads. I constantly bump them and they never click when i want. Never had a problem with physical buttons not built into the pad.
kegrv Greyd by default these are push to click so there's no real way to make a mistake
Why would you want a smaller trackpad?? Thats literally less ergonomic, objectively.
Sic Semper Beats personal preference.
It's just shitty how Microsoft treats Mac users when it comes to their Officesuite. The programs are heavily cut down. It's so bad that my teacher, who uses a mac book, which he got for free from school (yet there is no money to properrly test hardware on a more more professional level. For instance using the schools server to do it) has to use Virtualbox to use a windows enviroment to do the simplest of task, sometign that takes about 5 to 10 seconds on windows but takes significantly longer on mac because there aren't as much options.
Hey science studio great video as always. Question are you hyped for navi? And do you think navi will do bring more compared to. Vega?
You should do a video comparison between the same macbook pro 13 inch and the microsoft surfacebook 2
I'm early let's make a joke
The price of the MacBook Pro
James Rule Let's make another joke. Windows laptop longevity.
James Rule cheaper than the XPS for better performance at getting Greg's work done, with better build quality, speakers, game performance, etc?
James Rule he literally said they retail for the same price.
Edgardo Santillana can we make a third joke... Microsoft
Jethro Rose gaming really
*Unsubbed*
From Linus
Ak Mungroo I can't believe Linus spray painted the inside of a rig black, completely ruining it.
Vector Voltage I know. So stupid.
Yeah he has lost his way
Vector Voltage Because black PC components do not exist
(Sarcasm intensifies)
Especially in Apple computers. Those NEVER have any black on the inside.
(Sarcasm intensifies even more)
I have the Dell XPS 13 Iris 540, and I opened up task manager while watching this video on Chrome with the Instagram app, File Explorer and task manager open. My CPU utilization was about 22 to 31%. I also listened for coil whine with it on my lap, and I couldn't hear it. Am I just lucky?
Man, one of the BEST reviews I've seen about these laptops. Well done. :)
Dual Core i7s are worthless
They're marketing ploys.
Rishabh Patel Dual cores are worthless at this point, other than ultra budget machines.
Person74 Depends what you want to do. 90% of tasks they do fine i3 level.
Well its 2018...our 8th gen Us are doing fine with quad cores and who knows the Y series will prob follow suit
this is what a huge number of apple people are talking about when they talk about the ecosystem and how spec doesn't matter. the windows laptop has higher spec and performs worse at getting work done.
Fake news!
Hey there! dell xps 13 kaby lake version or macbook pro to run 1 or 2 virtual machines for pentest? Don't need too brute force as I work throught a VPN. Are Apple going to realease any macbook pro update this year? maybe kaby lake processors?
props for the test song! You even put the link!
If I can't open a laptop with one finger I won't buy it
lol
SlyBlueCat Just a testament to the stiffness of each hinge.
Thats actually an advantage to have a rigid screen when its a touch screen.
Mr. Panda How does wanting to open the hinge with one arm without having to hold the laptop down make him stingy.
bet u like ur hinge stiff😉
Best Windows laptop - Macbook Pro with Windows running on it!
LifeStalker lmao that would be instant fail.
Blasphemy!
You ever tried it and had bad experiene? I used to run Windows on my Macbook Pro when I first got it in 2011 using Bootcamp, it runs natively like any other Windows laptop, and ran quite well.
I can't recommend that, Hackintosh is even more work to maintain/keep running than Linux
Butthurt mustards inc
the hinge has to be a bit stiff so that it wouldn't be wobbling when u use the touch screen ...
My XPS 13 9360 wont power on and flashes two amber and five white LED. Please help!
This is a bad Video you are going against Dell because you want a sponsorship from apple.
Diamond Dash I hate people like you lol
Diamond Dash lol if that’s not a joke
Edmundo studios ...it's not a joke, it sounds like he does not like Dell but he like's MacBook and he should be neutral both laptops.
Diamond Dash I don’t think he was being unfair in his video, he clearing is more invested in the PC environment but preferred the MacBook as a device? Most of this is subjective.
what so if somebody actually appreciates good things in a product it means they are instantly biased?
Dell XPS runs MS Windows, so it's worthless.
Kansokusha Kamui you're worthless. You can't play games on iOS.
Last time I tried to Run PUBG on Ultra Settings in 4k mode my apple literally burst into flames. suck on that!
This and That hahaha good joke
Would you be able to compare the UX430UQ vs XPS 13 or MBP?
Dell xps 13” can run adobe premiere smooth or not tell me plz 🙏
Dude I kinda felt that you're biased on your review towards Mac.
Sumpter Carter Not really... It's just preference. I hate people like you that say crap like this
If he was biased towards mac than why does he have Windows based PC's behind him?
because he is biased towards PC.
He did say the Larger TrackPad makes up for its Non-Touch Screen. That alone tells me he's comparing things that have no relevance.
It's not a even contest, Apple cannot stand against anything unless it's at least 2 times cheaper (and still has same specs, lol).
.ENGLISH PROFICIENCY well in the video the MacBook was beating the XPS in everything but the raw CPU power (MacBook had significantly better GPU power)
DrMacintosh: first I know you're biased based on your name, and the main thing im gonna say, Dell has updated the XPS 13 to use the 7560U which has Iris GPU just like the macBook so now in GPU power Dell is same
Liam Dorsey Ok, even with Iris graphics the XP lacks a solid build, good speakers, trackpad, keyboard, and a decent web cam.
A higher clocked laptop grade i5 doesn't make up for those differences.
XPS has a very similar webcam, the build quality is arguably better on the Dell XPS, the Keyboard is a personal preference, and the macbook has a better trackpad, and the speakers are better but not noticably, as if u were by the mac one month and a month later the XPS you wont notice difference, and the XPS's screen is touch which is better
Liam Dorsey Watch the video, the MacBook has a better webcam
The MacBook is all metal, again watch the video and you will see that.
The speakers are a million times better! What are you talking about? "Not noticeable" did you watch the video?
You are clearly delusional.
I found that coil whine on my razer blade early this year, then I returned it to razer. That's just super annoying when you sitting in library and ppl around you could hear that sound coming out from your machine.
Anyway during that couple days of use, I noticed that if you slow down the cpu by like power saving mode, the coil whine would become acceptable. Hope this would help if you have this issue.
Im curious how many DB the coil whine is from say 2 feet away. I am guessing 10 DB or less which isn't audible even in a library. Maybe the Razer was louder.
I've never had Coil Wine out of my XPS 13. I mean I suppose if you type and put your ear to the keyboard you could hear it or the typing.
This was a very helpful review. Thank you!
stop watching when he said that macbook trackpad makes up for loss (touchscreen)
macbook fan detected
Wilson Huang I used a MacBook once too I am a window user but I like the Mac book pro keyboard better for real. I typing everyday and a lot for programming and MacBook Pro keyboard was perfect for that but still i like window more.
whats so great about touchscreen on a laptop. you have to constantly wipe the screen.
Ya personally I had a spectre x360 and I only used the touchscreen VERY rarely. I don't miss it at all now that I use a MacBook. The touchpads on Mac's are still so far ahead of pretty much every Windows laptop, it's definitely a defining feature of Mac laptops
As usual, MacBook wins! You get what you pay for. 2 years down the road, the XPS hinges Will get loose and fail and the battery will be shot. You'll be on your 3rd or 4th windows "refresh"/reinstall and when you try and resale it, you'll be lucky to get 300 bucks for it.
Trust me. I've been down the PC rabbit hole. With much chagrin, Apple was the only light at the end of the tunnel.
Woofer Cooker Thinkpads beat any MacBook any day.
I've had the same windows laptop since 2010, and it was a cheapo $300 one. Hinges worked fine, windows never slowed down. Just throw an SSD in and that takes care of that. Those issues you speak of are what comes around when someone doesn't understand how to use a PC, and needs the safety net Mac OS provides. The kind of person who clicks every link they see on facebook and downloads every single toolbar to their web browser. But enjoy your limited operating system, paying more for less eh? lol.
kyle brod kyle brod kyle brod Dude I've been using a PC longer than you've been able to shit in a toilet. I've been a PC user all of my life up until 2014. During those PC times I've used numerous laptops a crossed different manufactures. The best I can remember is my IBM T22, and my Dell XPS 701x spec'd out. Windows XP and 7 were damn good operating systems and compared to what OSX was at the time, might I say XP and 7 were BETTER than Apple. MS shot them selves in the foot with Windows 8 and up. I'm sure some younger people growing up with the tail end of win 7 going to 10 might have different opinions since they really haven't forcefully experienced other versions, thus why they love "newer, better" Windows 10.
For your other argument, "you don't understand how to use a PC" .. Should a user really need to know how to use a PC? A good operating system she work right out of the box, no bloat, no slowing down, no "just install CC cleaner" no "just delete unneeded registry files" blah blah blah. It should just work. No training necessary.
You shouldn't need training to read. Literally everything you install don't just press "express install." Mac is like Training wheels for your OS. Now I agree every damn download shouldn't try to push these things on everyone, but it takes 5 seconds to work around it. Not worth sacrificing all the perks windows has. IMO OSX is only superior for people who are content creators. I'm not trashing you for needing/wanting training wheels, but that doesn't make windows inferior by any means. Use it right and you're golden. & also for your comment on laptop batteries being shot, that just goes to show your lack of understanding and bias. Every battery whether its from Apple or Dell (they're literally likely sourced from the same places) has a finite number of cycles its rated for. If a battery is good for 2,000 cycles before it drops to 50% efficiency, the operation system or hardware that's draining the battery makes no difference. A cycle is a cycle.
Completely agree, I have several windows laptops and none of them have failed me.
Have u undervolt? For me it really help the coil whine
50-60% CPU use just opening task manager seems super weird, even on a ULV CPU. Even as far back as Core Duo machines, opening that on Windows 10 is a single digit afair after the initial opening for me.
Yeah, I have no clue what he's talking about, there must be some other issue with the machine because even laptops with Celerons only have like 2-5% usage in task manager.
Yeah, something definitely off. I have an old Vaio Z with a C2D P8500 and task manager only uses 1-3% CPU on Win 10.1.
i wonder if there will be a review for the macbook air 13 inch (2017) from sciencestudio
Can somebody help me
I need a laptop for school which one will be better a dell or apple
I like the apple interface and the windowed
I'm not sure if using both Windows and MacOS at the same time is the best solution. It can get pretty confusing when you have to regularly switch between different shortcuts and workflow. Maybe someone doesn't have such an issue with that but when I had to use mac at my work and then return to my home PC it was a bit tedious to switch between those environments.
Is the MBP base model good enough for word processing, like for a college student? Or should I get the i7 with 16 gbs of ram?
Jose Antonio Gomez Cano get the base model, I'm doing word processing on a 4 GB ram machine no problem
Hey, How are you Greg? I have a free sync monitor but I the RX 570 costs like 400$ here, while the GTX 1060 is around 300$ which one should I get? the 1060 or should I wait for the 570 to go down in price and what about RX 560 ?
1060 is around a 580, so 1060. Try to get the 6gb version of it if you can.
Is that mbp sporting a background of lower antelope canyon? I have a few great shots from there is you want more.
I always wondering what will they do with those laptops that they (laptop reviewer) buy after reviewing the laptopa?
What an explanation!
You did a nice job.. Awesome video
I would be more interested to see how the Ubuntu version of the xps would perform against the MBP
Wha year this mac book is? It does not have touch buttons
Man, I'm glad you've became big enough to get a sponsor like Squarespace! Good job!
Awesome comparison vid! Thanks
What about syncronization with smartphones like i phone 8 this video is not covering that bro ..
Hey Greg Mac OS X 10.13 high sierra is rumored to have even better optimization and performance, thanks also for the new APFS file system, I would like to ear your opinion and if you really experienced a performance increase when it will came out
So does the macbookpro do good in fcpx.
This mate just commented on this video asking about a hackintosh build, I made my own comment, just to show you that I also would be interested in a series on this!
Maybe a like "raw/unedited" series? Of course you'd have to edit a little, or add music, but make it more of an experience of something you go through. It doesn't have to be hackintosh, it could be anything, just a more personal series that has longer video times, and a more raw approach.
Keep up the great work
