What do you guys think of the DELL XPS 13 2-in-1? Would you buy this over the regular one? Thanks for watching!

The pricing is too high for the specs. If it were around $600, then it would be pretty good for someone who is willing to give up some features and performance for the form factor, but not at $1300. The hardware limitations basically add a con which cancels out most of the pros. For example, it could be great with a stylus, but due to the weaker CPU, and limited RAM, your artwork may be limited to using PaintTool SAI. Beyond that, if you do not mind going with a 6th gen core i7-6500u, you could get a Lenovo P40 Yoga for $50 less, comes with a stylus, and get the same amount of RAM and storage, in addition to a dedicated Nvidia Quadro M500M which should at least do slightly better than the integrated GPU on the XPS 13 2 in 1.

Negative. I went with the standard XPS 13 KabyLake after much deliberation. I just couldn't risk the processor bottle-necking while multi-tasking. Also after trying out both the 9530 xps 13&15 4k versions and experiencing the horrible battery life I had to get an FHD. Great review but I still need to keep my tablets and laptops as different devices for another year.

Considering I have this laptop I can say your review is so perfectly accurate. Got this strictly for school, didn't want something I could game on, and wanted the flexibility of a 2in1 for watching videos, doing work, and reading lots of manga(book mood is great with this). Great video man.

    Hey Matthew.
Loved the review for a lot o reasons.
Not only the production of the video, because nowadays this is getting more common, since a lot of people now have access to those quality products to be able to produce a nice looking and sounding video.
I like how you are honest and pay attention to the details.
You point all the bad and the good stuff about the laptop, such as the problems with the webcam, the battery, and performance comparing it to the regular XPS models but still talk about everything that Dell did well, such as the size, build quality and keyboard.
And more importantly, you not only talked about the specs, but who this PC is for.
Thank you, now I know what to look for in a laptop besides the portability and looks, unfortunetely this is not the product I look for now that I watched it, but I'm sure I will not regret looking more carefully.
Anyway, awesome review, looking foward to seeing more of your wife as well, she is very talented too.
Just keep it up and you will be among the bigger techtubers out there.

I think that these low watt (core m-ish) laptops do have an edge over the regular ones due to the fact that you can charge (during use too) them with a usb-c power bank (along with your phone etc) on the go instead of having to carry the parked-by-the-wall-for-a-couple-of-hours charger. That's a strong sell point and should be mentioned by reviewers but very rarely is. Especially since this particular convertible has relatively awesome benchmarks.

About to start my own law practice and I ordered this laptop with the same specs for my business needs. I don't need it for any gaming (maybe it will run Stardew Valley for downtime?), so the specs are just fine for me. This thing should fly for web use, Office suite, and other productivity apps. My video editing will be limited to short youtube clips for marketing materials and no major image editing. The 2in1 form factor is a must-have for a paperless law practice. The ability to turn the laptop into a digital legal pad is priceless. The one really nice thing about the Y-series chips is that the laptop is fanless. A silent laptop for use in meetings will be really great. Thanks for your review!

I think its a great laptop. But I do think the price could be ever so cheaper. I mean, it's close to the price of the full version. But I guess it does boil down to what you're looking for. Great video Matt. It would be great if you could recommend SSDs/HDDs that we can buy to swap out for initial drives. (If that makes sense.) Since the drives it comes with aren't the best with write speeds, it would be good to get some suggestions on what we can buy to change it out to better fit our needs. (If we ever choose to.)

Great review Matt! I've had my eye on the Lenovo Yoga 900S but this might be the unit I go with. Might be two 2 in 1's for a good "smack-down" I'd definitely go with this XPS 13 2 in 1 over the standard model, a small processor sacrifice for the extra modes and pen support. I have a 2014 XPS 12 and really like it. Any idea if Dell will offer this with built in broadband?

The selling point for core-y laptops is the extremely low tdp, which enables fanless heat management. I don't understand why reviewers never mention this. Core-y is not supposed to compete with core-u performance. It's a lighter product that runs cooler, silently, and has no moving parts (fans are the first things that malfunction in laptops).

    • @alikattouf953
      @alikattouf953 Před 5 lety

I realized after buying this laptop that the performance I was promised wasn't the performance I was getting so I did some research. The i7-7Y75 chip has very low TDP. The lower the TDP the less heat your laptop is capable of dealing with which means the advertised 3.6 ghz speed is a lie. After boost this laptop just gets too hot and the system slows down the cpu performance as a method of cooling. If a fan-less touch screen laptop isn't a must have for you.. don't buy this product; you will be severely disappointed.
