What do you guys think of the DELL XPS 13 2-in-1? Would you buy this over the regular one? Thanks for watching!
The pricing is too high for the specs. If it were around $600, then it would be pretty good for someone who is willing to give up some features and performance for the form factor, but not at $1300. The hardware limitations basically add a con which cancels out most of the pros. For example, it could be great with a stylus, but due to the weaker CPU, and limited RAM, your artwork may be limited to using PaintTool SAI. Beyond that, if you do not mind going with a 6th gen core i7-6500u, you could get a Lenovo P40 Yoga for $50 less, comes with a stylus, and get the same amount of RAM and storage, in addition to a dedicated Nvidia Quadro M500M which should at least do slightly better than the integrated GPU on the XPS 13 2 in 1.
Negative. I went with the standard XPS 13 KabyLake after much deliberation. I just couldn't risk the processor bottle-necking while multi-tasking. Also after trying out both the 9530 xps 13&15 4k versions and experiencing the horrible battery life I had to get an FHD. Great review but I still need to keep my tablets and laptops as different devices for another year.
Which is better HP Spectre x360 2 in 1 or xps 13 2 in 1?
Considering I have this laptop I can say your review is so perfectly accurate. Got this strictly for school, didn't want something I could game on, and wanted the flexibility of a 2in1 for watching videos, doing work, and reading lots of manga(book mood is great with this). Great video man.
Been waiting so long for this!
always finding my answers in your reviews ..really other reviewer need to learn from you matthew ,,, thanks & i wished if i can give 1000 like ..you deserve it .
Hey Matthew.
Loved the review for a lot o reasons.
Not only the production of the video, because nowadays this is getting more common, since a lot of people now have access to those quality products to be able to produce a nice looking and sounding video.
I like how you are honest and pay attention to the details.
You point all the bad and the good stuff about the laptop, such as the problems with the webcam, the battery, and performance comparing it to the regular XPS models but still talk about everything that Dell did well, such as the size, build quality and keyboard.
And more importantly, you not only talked about the specs, but who this PC is for.
Thank you, now I know what to look for in a laptop besides the portability and looks, unfortunetely this is not the product I look for now that I watched it, but I'm sure I will not regret looking more carefully.
Anyway, awesome review, looking foward to seeing more of your wife as well, she is very talented too.
Just keep it up and you will be among the bigger techtubers out there.
Thanks Daniel for the words of encouragement! I truly appreciate it = )
Great video Matt! You're doing things better and better over time :) keep up with the great content!
Thanks Francesco = ) Trying to improve as a I go along!
Love your vids Matt! Another great one as usual!
Thanks Eduardo and for watching them!
Nice review mate 👍👍, I looked for so many videos showing if it brings a USB C to type A dongle on its own box. Only this video shows what I really needed to know
You're welcome! = ) Glad I could help!
I'm your big fan! Your videos are awesome! I just started my tech channel cause of watching yours. Would learn from you more 😅👍🏼
Thanks Jazon!! I appreciate it = ) Also, congrats on starting your channel. Just keep at it and it will grow! I'll stop by and check it out.
nice review, when the opportunity comes try review the dell xps 15 (kaby lake)
I will love watch your review on it.
Thanks man! I'll DEFINITELY be reviewing the XPS 15 Kaby lake.. = ) Love that laptop!
nice Video. DELL is really great atm with the XPS line. Love my XPS 15
Thanks Stefan! I agree they're doing a great job with the XPS line.
I think that these low watt (core m-ish) laptops do have an edge over the regular ones due to the fact that you can charge (during use too) them with a usb-c power bank (along with your phone etc) on the go instead of having to carry the parked-by-the-wall-for-a-couple-of-hours charger. That's a strong sell point and should be mentioned by reviewers but very rarely is. Especially since this particular convertible has relatively awesome benchmarks.
Very helpful. Thanks for the video!
+Dorupero you're welcome! Glad I could I help !
Was about to be frustrated about the USB selection, but the fact that they include an adapter in the box makes me like them more. Considering getting this now lmao
haha ya, it's the little things sometimes that make a difference ! = )
great video, I am considering a new XPS and was confused about which one. this video sure help me make up my mind. thanks
Thanks Dale! I'm glad i was able to help. Which one did you end up going with?
Matthew Moniz I am going with the XPS 13 regular because of the lack of ports on the 2-1, plus the power, I need battery life.
About to start my own law practice and I ordered this laptop with the same specs for my business needs. I don't need it for any gaming (maybe it will run Stardew Valley for downtime?), so the specs are just fine for me. This thing should fly for web use, Office suite, and other productivity apps. My video editing will be limited to short youtube clips for marketing materials and no major image editing. The 2in1 form factor is a must-have for a paperless law practice. The ability to turn the laptop into a digital legal pad is priceless. The one really nice thing about the Y-series chips is that the laptop is fanless. A silent laptop for use in meetings will be really great. Thanks for your review!
You're welcome Geoffrey!
Awesome review!!
Thanks Kabir! = )
Man........
That review was crisp !! 😍😍
Thanks Parth! Don't jinx this video = )
Matthew Moniz ummmm....
okey dokey !! 😂😂
Agreed, not sure what camera was used, but the lens was sharp across the frame and the focus was perfect through the video. The post processing was also really good.
Great review! I like the portability
Thanks Shaarujon! ya, it's very portable and the stylus is nice if you like to draw or sketch
I think its a great laptop. But I do think the price could be ever so cheaper. I mean, it's close to the price of the full version. But I guess it does boil down to what you're looking for. Great video Matt. It would be great if you could recommend SSDs/HDDs that we can buy to swap out for initial drives. (If that makes sense.) Since the drives it comes with aren't the best with write speeds, it would be good to get some suggestions on what we can buy to change it out to better fit our needs. (If we ever choose to.)
Couldn't help but notice the lights in the background. I'm guessing Phillips Hue? I was thinking of picking the Starter Pack up, are they worth the high price tag?
That intro was awesome 😍😍😂😂😂
haha thanks man!
This is my new favorite device
this would make a perfect chromebook
Great review Matt! I've had my eye on the Lenovo Yoga 900S but this might be the unit I go with. Might be two 2 in 1's for a good "smack-down" I'd definitely go with this XPS 13 2 in 1 over the standard model, a small processor sacrifice for the extra modes and pen support. I have a 2014 XPS 12 and really like it. Any idea if Dell will offer this with built in broadband?
Thanks Brad! = ) I doubt they will have built in broadband but it would be a good option for business professionals
Can you make a review on Dell Inspiron 14 7460 soon?
Can't wait to get my XPS 15. SO PUMPED!
Ash Tailor I also can't wait for my Alienware 17 R4 in March.
Nice review
Thanks man!
I was so excited about convertible XPS, but that CPU downgrade is a no-go for me. Now I have to decide between the Spectre x360 and Lenovo Yoga 910 UHD, they are about the same price in my country.
one of the best review ....
+m raheel qaisrani Thanks man I appreciate it!
Can I ask you a question? Is there no Coil whine at 9365?
Thanks for the video, very clear and to the point.
I like just about everything on the 2 in 1 except I need it to run 4k video editing from my Drone and 360 camera. Not sure it's going to be up to it? When do you think the standard 13 laptop will get facial recognition? thanks
+Gary Watts thanks Gary! Ya if you're editing 4K video I'd lean towards the xps 15 instead
Thanks for your quick reply. Will have a look cheers
The selling point for core-y laptops is the extremely low tdp, which enables fanless heat management. I don't understand why reviewers never mention this. Core-y is not supposed to compete with core-u performance. It's a lighter product that runs cooler, silently, and has no moving parts (fans are the first things that malfunction in laptops).
does the core-y processor handle some heavy engineering programs like etabs, autocad, revit, etc.. or will it face difficulties running these programs?
I need a super portable laptop for school and just regular day-to-day use so I'm thinking of getting this one rather than the regular 13 or 15 simply because I can also use it as a tablet to, um, procrastinate...
That's cool! It's great if you watch a lot of media on it too.. just flip the screen to whatever position and you can take notes.
Are you gonna make a review of the asus pro b9940 when it comes out?
Ya if i can get my hands on it for sure!
I think Dell made a mistake not using the U series i processors. That makes it not able to compete with the slim and light Spectre x360 very much.
It wouldnt handle the thermals in the current chassis...revision is needed
I want one
Exactly like the HP & Microsoft stylus. Too bad they couldn't put a bit more power in it. For the price there are better systems out there.
I have the one with 16 gb of ram, core i7-8500y, and 512 gb SSD. Could it handle some light to medium. Video editing?
What's your experience? Was it able to handle video editing with the spec you mentioned above?
I'm telling you plz... add metric measurement for the weight because it matters a lot to me in a review
+Jord Zord sure I'll add it next time but it's very simple to convert: )
What camera and lens do you use?
+PACo626 gear list is in the description
I love the XPS line, but really don't understand why anyone would want a 2 in 1. My regular Dell XPS has amazing battery life and is still thin / portable enough. I couldn't see myself changing anything about it. :p
2-in-1 are great if you use a stylus = )
Students want the 2 in 1. Touch screen with pen support. It's a good Surface Pro competitor.
Review is crispier than lays :P
+VelronTech haha thanks man!
Video editing?
HaNriX right?
dude dell xps 13 vs macbook pro?
Would be a nice comparison!
hii
Moniz great information but please mention the devices price point
thank u
Thanks! But I did mention it = ) 2:50
If Matt replies to this, I swear I'll sunrise!
Replied!
Matthew Moniz
OMG, and I kept it! I'm dead tired
whats the best pc to get for £250
TheOrginalOne I would look at a pawn shop.
TheOrginalOne Look into getting a chromebook. If you want a desktop try the used market like Craigslist.
I realized after buying this laptop that the performance I was promised wasn't the performance I was getting so I did some research. The i7-7Y75 chip has very low TDP. The lower the TDP the less heat your laptop is capable of dealing with which means the advertised 3.6 ghz speed is a lie. After boost this laptop just gets too hot and the system slows down the cpu performance as a method of cooling. If a fan-less touch screen laptop isn't a must have for you.. don't buy this product; you will be severely disappointed.
ya they went with the y-series instead of the more powerful duo-cores like in the regular XPS 13.
Matthew Moniz the normal xps now has the quad core cpus
Well of course Y products arent good for long duration in a thin chassis......maaybe in a few years when its quad core and running more power efficient
It is fanless, that's BIG FAT + for me...
Exactly.
Main reason I am getting it! I don't understand why reviewer didn't point it properly out lol
Its 2023 got a new one for 150bucks
Visually its stunning but for any task higher than opening a JPG file, it's garbage.
lmfao dumbass
They should've put a desktop gtx 1060 and let it thermal throttle
+RaFi TV the xps 13 line has never had a dedicated gpu it wouldn't make much sense
Matthew Moniz Yea I was joking lol
M core... 😂 NO Thank You!
hahahaha where are the single USB-C haters?????
lol there's two of them on this one = )
Just one is Thunderbolt 3, the other is just for numbers :P
No Rompas El Teclado it will still get the job done so 2
At least the adaptor is included unlike what Apple does!
almost first
You're the second best
the new intro is just so awfull
What's so bad about it?
Matthew Moniz the sound burned my ears the first time when I was at high volume😫
what???1300 bucks???that's rediculous
+Joachim Lotz starts at 999 unless you're referring to the Canadian pricing which is crazy
Oh ok but still that's incredebly too expensive
Your reviews alway seem unoriginal. seems like you are copying elements from other reviewers.
Thats funny, you seem to not realise theres only so many things hundreds of reviewers can say about the same item.
Lol reviews are generally similar same talking points so idk what u expected
