The 2008 Audi S6 was a sport sedan with a Lamborghini V10 engine. Today I'm reviewing the S6 and I'm going to show you all the quirks and features of a fantastic sport sedan. I'm also going to drive the S6 V10 and show you what it's like behind the wheel of a Lambo V10-powered high-performance Audi S6 sport sedan.

I'm pretty sure not. The people buying these cars would already know everything in Doug's videos, and more. These videos for those people would just be to tell them the car's available. No one is buying a V10 Audi S6 for practical reasons.
He used to work for Auto Trader and thought, I could do this better.

Everything had crazy engines during this period. The F-250 had an optional V10, dodge made an SRT-10 ram, the M3 and S4 both had V8s, and the S6 and M5 had V10s. It really was the “peak car” era
I have 1999 dodge ram 3500 dually v10 with a diesel transmission and runs on gas not diesel fuel

i agree 100% even diesels at that time were like v10 and v12 (audi) and benz did 6.2 litres v8 engines. in comparison to todays c63 with 4 cylinders

@@josephbareski6931 actually both wrong and Doug is wrong as well. Its a 4.2 with 2 more cylinders. All the engines in VW Group are developed by Audi. Except the VR6 the was developed by VW and Audi and some of the Porsche engines that they have had for awhile. When you take an engine out from VW Lamborghini Porsche and Bentley. The Audi ring are molded into the engine blocks. With WV under it because they own the group. You never see Lamborghini Porsche and Bentley insignias molded on any of the engine blocks. Just like when you pull out an engine from a Lexus the engine block has Toyota molded in to it. Audi designs and develops the engines for VW Group.
@@dem5757 even the 1L turbo 110HP? Any engine Audi also offer I would expect to be made by them but.. those are seemingly exclusive to economy VWs and Skoda and stuff. But it’d be pretty funny/neat if you took off the engine cover and there’s the Audi.

I have owned (and LOVED) my 08' S6 for the last 7 years. Finally getting to see one of my favorite youtubers do a review of my ride has made my week. Thanks Doug! The car he is reviewing is missing a few plastic covers & stickers and is a low-spec version. The highest spec has full carbon fibre trim, rear heated seats, S6 branded (front) carpets and a couple other options. Regarding the transmission, when you switch to "S" mode, the transmission sharpens up, and that's when you get to those faster figures. Mine is stock, and I was able to do 0-62 in just over 4.6 seconds. The subtle styling makes this car blend in really well, but its always fun to be at the lights and see guys suddenly notice the "V10" badge and start freaking out. Maintenance is NOT easy; averages roughly $1100/year, so keep that in mind when pricing. I got mine with low mileage 7 years ago, and I've taken proper care of it since, so I know everything is tip-top. I would be reluctant to buy a high mileage one of these without knowing completely how well the previous owner had taken care of it. The walnut blast alone is about $900, and I've had to get it done twice now with relatively low mileage (only use 94 octane), so keep that in mind.
Lambo prices, and almost everything is an engine out, i had out 4 times in 10 years lol not because was broke but needed maintenance like ac compressor, alternator those things.. a x pipe exhaust does some miracles haha

Talks about the trunk: "feel's like a full size sedan". It is an Audi A6, there is only one car in the Audi range larger than this, so it is fair to say that is alredy a rather large car and definatly "full size".
Yeah rear leg room could have been a bit better though

With the OEM exhaust system, it only sounds 'ok' flat out. Put a Milltek on it and they sound much better. So I put one on mine ;-)

I had one of those S6’s back in the day. There’s a Valet key with a chip. Once the buttons pressed the valet key works, the button can only be deactivated once the main key is back in the car.
Oh those were the times...a true SLEEPER V10 straight from the manufacturer!
So here's a fun fact: the S8 that shared this V10 is actually almost 100 kilos, or about 200 pounds, lighter due to an all-aluminium construction.

Actually when comparing specs the s8 is around 100 lbs heavier which is impressive considering the size difference, options, air suspension etc....the all aluminum construction makes a huge difference in the s8.

My dad used to drive this generation A6 and it's quite nostalgic seeing a similar vehicle my dad used to drive.
My friend bought a 07 S8 V10 just yesterday and today here I find a video of a similar car. I got to drive it around for an hour or two in various road conditions and I have to agree with the transmission draining power, and how quiet the car is, not revealing its V10 notes easily. However I found the handling amazing. I was driving uphill so understeer wasn't a problem but along with its aggressive sport mode for the air suspension, the large all wheel drive sedan felt like it has been thrown into the hairpin sideways, feeling like as if the car was hopping on its outer wheels with minimal roll during turn and launches violently as you floor the gas to exit the corner. It just felt so fun and satisfying. My friend's car have some malfunctions in the engine, which I am afraid he must require the engine to be dismounted in order to just access the engine. Everything in the engine bay looked so cramped, not as much as the S6 though.

The understated styling was so cool. My dad had an ‘07 S8 back when it first came out. Got pulled over twice within the first week that he got it, both cops were like “man you were really giving her all she’s got…” oh if they only knew. Hahaha.

Doug at part throttle in traffic: the car understeers

My dad had an S8 and he let several people drive it without telling them what it was. Almost everyone (who wasn't a car person) had no idea it was a special car, even after driving it. If you kept it out of sport mode and never mashed the throttle it seemed very tame. If you did mash the throttle, it was crazy how quick that huge car was.
Sounds accurate. My 4.2 A6 felt kinda sluggish if you were driving around town but half throttle, or even better pedal to the floor so you can press the switch and it would scream. God I loved that car

I had a friend who’s dad drove one of these around back when they were new. An absolute ANIMAL. For 2008, this thing was worlds away from everything else on the road.

Any german car is expensive to maintain if you are paying someone to do the work. Obviously the number of cylinders is directly related to how much things will cost to fix or replace as well.

This 5.2 was based on the Audi 4.2 V8 FSI. The later 5.2 that was in the Lambo and R8 are the same as this engine, except for stronger internals and a dry sump. The Lambo 5.0 v10 was not the same engine.

The only difference on the internals as far as strength is the split pin vs solid pin in the crankshafts. All other internals in the rotating assembly are identical.

@@jonasthemovie No, I'm comparing the 5.2 with itself. It was used in 5 cars and the internals are the same between all 5 cars other than the crank that used a split pin in the front engine cars and a solid pin in the mid engine cars.
@@MrDericp Sorry I read you wrong. Yeah that goes for both BXA and BUH. So, the S6 V10 is very different from the engine later used in Lambo.

I always liked the styling of this gen of Audi/VW-the Passats from this period were nice looking too.
Picked up one back in September from the original owner, 72k ish miles. Transmission needed a full rebuild which wasn’t disclosed to us prior to buying but absolutely love the car still. The car drives/handles amazing for what it is (LUXURY sport sedan). Will sit at 100mph all day. The only improvement I’d say would be the transmission and not necessarily making it faster. A 7th gear overdrive would go a long way at making the ride even smoother and more efficient.

Exactly my thought when i heard him say that. The badges and the quad exhausts are the only thing that would differentiate the M5 to a 520d with an M-Sport body kit. Most german performance sedans of the time were subtle. Even the maniacs at AMG kept it pretty close to the regular cars.
@@bogdanrus7953 Honestly even the new M5s without the black chrome/carbon fiber packages look pretty subtle compared to the E63s and CTS-V. The only way to really differentiate them is the grille badge, fender vents and quad exhausts.

Doug, Great review of the S6. I've been a happy owner of a 2008 S6 since 2009. I think you overlooked what has been in my ownership experience an important, very useful "quirk," and that is the fold-down rear seats, which make the trunk space large enough for adults to lay down in, or haul a road bicycle, for example. I haven't seen a comparable newer performance sedan with fold-down rear seats, a feature that I've utilized quite often. Secondly, as you discussed the slower standing start speed, I think it would have been worth mentioning that the all-wheel drive adds roughly 90 lbs. per wheel. So, you're constantly carrying the added weight of approximately two extra Doug DeMuros, give or take, something the M5 or E63 does not. IMO, it is very difficult to find a comparable replacement. I can't justify buying a newer sedan and burning depreciation when my S6 is still such a fine performing car, solid interior as you describe, great leather and seats.
The new S6 has a V6, times have really changed.

Remember that it’s still a $70k vehicle when you take it in for service. Audi parts and labor prices don’t depreciate with the car.

@@tylercouture216 Might wanna stop jumping to conclusions my guy. I've owned 4 Audi vehicles, including 2 C6 A6s(same generation as this S6). Go on the Audizine forums and see for yourself wiseguy. They are an absolute trap. Many people were enticed into buying one since they were selling for the equivalent of a camry on the used market but found out the hard way how much upkeep is on a V10 lambo engine stuffed inside a mid size german sedan.

I had a go at one of these in my 335d... it didn't get entirely embarrassed by it... but the guy and his wife were in their 80s and were still giving it the beans. Respect.
This was one of the craziest Audi Eras. Lambo V10 S6, Lambo V10 S8, V8 S4 and a DIESEL V12 Q7. Shame we won't see anymore of these crazy vehicle experiments anymore.
The S6 does not have a Lambo V10.
its not all that uncommon though.. Chevy put the corvette engine in some of their sedans and dodge did the same thing with the viper engine. so why not audi
@Eric Aung It’s an Audi V10 that Lambo used to replace their old V10. It’s not a Lambo engine. The S6 got this engine before Lambo started to use it.
@@BarryGGould It’s as silly as to say all V10 Dodge trucks got a Viper engine, when the Viper really got a truck engine. This engine does not come out of a Lambo. Lambo got an engine out of an Audi.
@Eric Aung The Audi V10 is the 90mm spaced Audi V8 TFSI with two more cylinders etc. The Lambo V10 was a 88mm spaced port injection engine with different firing order etc. People seem to have problems grasping this, especially when Lambo started to use the Audi V10.

Valet mode from the button is a throttle and speed limiter, it was in Lamborghini's of similar years, unsure on the R8, the key is for locking the trunk and glovebox. The early S and R Tronic had slow shifts; these cars benefit from a TCU tune to cut shift times considerably. Great video.
He should review the RS6 Avant from the same era. I almost bought one a decade ago. Lambo V10 in a station wagon with 2 turbos!

The infotainment system seems to run at 60 FPS, such a rarity, cars these days just run at a sluggish 15 FPS

I drive 2008 Audi A6 c6 re-styling and I can tell they've made major improvement in things like the boring start button, the voice recognition and the adaptative cruise control.

I feel like people say stuff like this just to say it. There was a different S6 for sale on carsandbids and the service records were posted, it had 100k+ miles too and it didn't look like a money pit to me. People need to actually do their research on what makes cars like this costlier to keep up rather than regurgitating those tired old tropes about cars like this being money sinks.
Actually the 5.2 v10 is surprisingly one the most reliable engines Audi ever made. Only real problem it has is carbon build up on the valves
@@NikoBell12 own the last production line 09 S8, always drive hard to reduce carbon build up, still to this day I enjoy this beast! Hard to let go, but 1 day it will sadly happen 😞 .
I had an A6 from this era, and the solar sunroof was my favorite feature. In hot California sun, it did a lot to cool off the car in the summertime. I wish other cars had this!
I wish Doug showed us how cars sound. He visited such rare cars and didn't show the engine\ exhaust sound. =(

I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I do. Interior wood trim is nice, the graphics are kinda neat. But its not too complicated or fussy and its still more car than iPad.

9:00, once again, BMW did this on the e60 and e90, they hid a small ring around the speedometer that had a red line, when you set the cruise, that ring would move to display what you set your cruise to. This was standard on all BMW models with those style gauge clusters, you managed to omit that one from your e60 M5 and your e92 M3 videos.
Jeremy Clarkson reviewed the wagon version of this car (S6 Avant) and he said that the transmission was so slow " _that works like it’s on cannabis_ ".
I cannot stand this complacent you know what. And neither those who mindlessly admire him. That said, I wonder whether the actual problem might be, and this might be a parallel to here, that the attempted combination of being a comedian as well as an instance of some journalistic capacity wanting to be taken seriously is one which simply does not work.
I noticed that Doug is getting closer and closer to 4 million subscribers and I don’t think I’ve ever heard him once say in a video asking for people to like the video and to subscribe to his channel, might be the only CZcamsr that doesn’t ask people to do that
I have a friend that owned one of these. Same color in fact. Car was his pride and joy. Don't know what he did to the exhaust on it, but it really let that V10 sing. Sounded absolutely beautiful. Then it got sideswiped while parked in Denver...... Car was totaled. Can't remember what he bought after

Seems like old Doug here forgot to mention that this V10 is a faulty engine which has to be taken apart every 30 thousand miles to manually clean the built up carbon. Tyler and Carwizard made videos on this exact car
There is actually a transmission tune for this car by JHM that transforms the car and makes it what it should be. It’d be great to see you review a modified version and see what you thought.
Also in the US Audi did super bowl advert with Jason Statham with the standard 3.0 super charged which epitomises what Doug is talking about the styling - great video!

@@Stressless2023 it has voice to text, but like most systems its average, can also draw the letters on the dial, but thats slower as you still have to do it letter by letter
@@gureno19 Oh ok thought you meant it didn't even offer that feature. But yeah mine is no better, it might catch every other letter you tell it smh. My wife's Chevy Equinox has a much better setup that's easy to use, but I don't want a car note just for the convenience lol.

These massive engine old school monsters may not have as much power or torque as the newer models but they somehow always manage to just feel just way more grand under acceleration, it’s just more of an event even if it isn’t as fast
They shine on the highway. 0-60 might not be as fast as the new ones, but Id bet a 40-120+ roll may even be faster

They could have been, but they never did.
You could argue that the v12 fitted to the old 8 and 7 series was the basis of the mac f1 but even then, it was very much revised and upgraded , the Audi literally had the lambo /r8 lump.
