Can We Fix This "Lambo V10" Audi S8? One Bad Owner Away From The Junkyard...

- This car is the sole reason for the delays on every other project for the last 7 months. I bought it thinking it would need some minor maintenance to be a nice daily driver....BOY WAS I WRONG. This car has consumed what little free time I have had since October BUT at least I filmed the entire process of getting it back up to speed. The D3 Audi S8 is a great car when it works right but fixing one that has been neglected or improperly serviced by multiple owners is the biggest mechanical hurdle I have faced in a long time. Bookmark the AudiRevolution forms, invest in Ross Tech VCDS, and a smoke tester if you dare purchase a V10 powered Audi S8 or S6 sedan!

Who wants to see a custom 3" x pipe exhaust fab video?
I have a intake manifold for that car one of the flaps aren’t good if you or anyone would be interested in it ?
@@James1231391 For the right price I would be. Need one to thinker with.
Please make more videos if you still have it.
I would do a double X pipe or an x-pipe with a very long merge collector like from Khaos. BTW what did you do to fix the throttle body Y piece at 4:00 ?
I've been sober from German cars for two years and this video helped me maintain that, thanks man
😂😂😂
Quitters never win!!!
@@dannyr3346 Can't win if you spend four years on jackstands.
@@BothFeetInPodcast dude doesn’t know how to work on a German car 😂😭
@@B58_Nick How many HPFPs are you on now?
I truly believe you will return that Audi to its glory. Gonna hurt the cash register but if you can make it the memories will come alive. Good luck!!
You're doing the Lord's work saving this V10. Kind of makes me want to suffer through fixing one myself. 😁
SO happy to see you back working on cars again in your videos. Please show more content like this and going back to the drag strip or even go-cart racing.
thanks man. you will see real car racing soon
As a former used Audi owner, I feel your pain. It was a humbling experience! Instantly started following your channel to see this beast back on the road 👍
Those are nice looking cars! It'd be really cool to see what this can do fixed up at 15 yrs old
Edit: Should try to talk to the car wizard. He might know some parts from cheaper cars that fit
I know the pain of cheap Audi’s. Glad to see you got it back together. I’m currently replacing a piston in a 2012 Q7 . I hope I can get it back together😂
I've owned an 09' Audi D3 S8 & the D3 A8L, as well 3 of the 3rd generation Escalade. Sounds like you have similar taste in rides 👊 Do miss the V10 sounds. Do yourself a favor & delete the heavy ass suitcase of a muffler. You'll love driving it 10x more, promise you! Out of the 100+ vehicles I've owned, the D3 S8 got the most compliments & started the most conversations. Even had the same color & CF trim package as yours... Don't sell it, you will regret it. Closest thing I've owned to a "super car"
The mufflers were deleted by a previous owner. I need to make a legitimate x pipe system for it.
I really enjoy watching you work on cars. Listening to you think out loud is always interesting.
Thanks Ed I’m glad 😂
38:25 you nailed it. That gave me chills its so true. I'm on my 2nd Audi V10, and that's why.
its a disease lol
I had a 2007 Audi S8. It was the most reliable car I've owned. Just oil changes and brakes. B&o was awesome. Gallardo brakes were very expensive. So sad it got totalled by getting t bone by semi. I walked away. I have a couple videos on my channel. I wired the exhaust baffles open to make it sound like a Lamborghini lol
2007 S6 here. Only had for few months but love it so far
here another one S8 2007 with full stainless Kreissieg exhaust with F1 sound all the way in New Zealand. Also the ceramic brake system and B&O audio system
@@eco_logicdo you have a link to your exhsust. Thank you
@@franka506 I posted the link. Let me know if YT didn't allow it on here. Otherwise google for the Japanese Kreissieg for the S8.
being a personal owner of this car, I finally realized I have a lot of work ahead of me, I have the 2009 Audi s8, The car was previously used as an undercover police car in Miami, so I'm pretty sure it was probably beaten like crazy, watching your first clip and last clip of the Audi running, made me quickly realize I definitely have to service everything you just did because my Audi s8 right now runs the same way as the first clip, I was thinking maybe the high pressure fuel pumps were causing the lack in power, but this just confirmed what I need to do in order to restore that hidden v10 power you just brought to the light, being a bmw technician, I know for a fact this car is gonna bust my balls, but here goes to the project of building a twin turbo v10 s8 lol, thanks for the video Stapleton, you definitely earned my sub from me. cheers mate, and good work.
Check for vacuum leaks first. I suspect that was the biggest culprit on mine
Great to see you back working on a car; especially a German car.
Did an awesome job on it
Really enjoy these hands on videos. Real world repairs with the hard aches we go through trying to repair anything.
Absolutely loved this kind of video. Thanks for recording and sharing!
This makes me feel so much better about my workmanship on my project car lol
Missed these types of videos. Glad you got it up and running love those v10 sounds. Also 100% agree if you don’t have a fun car to drive it will make you lose hope for fun when driving. Glad you have the spark again!
CZcams algorithm is waiting for you to rebuild this and blow up meanwhile! Mark my words, by the time you complete this you will be above 50k easy, find another car like this or some crazy rebuild and it will take u over 100k easy. You are a full time CZcamsr from now on!
I am glad you found us here and you make a sound prediction 😂. I am a full time CZcamsr and this channel is just our mess around channel www.youtube.com/@Stapleton42
Lol 50k? It's $11k for another engine from Audi ... I found a used one for $2500... Buy that spend $7500 on rebuild... And $5k on swap .. done.
Mitchell, be proud of the work you have completed....... I'm so impressed. Alberta, Canada
thanks man
A great job saving this beast, its maybe expensive, but the feeling u get driving this kind of car, is amazing. You are Amazing man. :)
Watching now.
Good to see this format back.
Good to see car work on the channel again.
Good Job dude! Corvettes do the same for me.
True car guys will make tools to make others' days easier you the man
Thanks man
Bought an s6 two months ago, and have all the same issues. Love your video which made me laugh but also very informative. Your hair may have grown, but mines gone grey😂😂😂😂😂😂
glad i found ur channel! finally someone with real commentary and no royalty free music lol
I got one, black :) I bought with orange light shining in dashboard, went home, figured it was one injector fault and I realized why the dude sold it, it is pain in the ass to change. after fixing injector and cleaned cabon, the engine started working like a rocket :))))
I loved my d3 a8 for the week I owned it. I was at the auction at the end of the week and my buddy encouraged me to get the s8 so I did. I earned a nickname of hooters breaking the power steering fuse doing doughnuts in the hooters parking lot on my birthday. I sold it later… actually was the same color 07 as yours. Years later I bought a d3 a8L that I love. I did ghost links, brakes, big wheels and a rear muffler delete. I recommend it on the s8 cause it’s the perfect sound. You’re going to be addicted to this thing cause they are lovable cars
Awesome video and very informative!!! Please keep them coming
thanks man we will!
Great to see some work/project videos!!!
im a b7 a4 owner, these cars are a labor of love lol,, keep them nice and up to date on oil and all of the little things that they are known for and they will go forever, and audis are just so fun to drive, so all the aggravation of fixing them goes away when you drive it ..
This is totally different than your other channel. But just as good! I went from watching "The Hermanator" (one of my favorites), to rebuilding the top part of a V10 Audi motor, all in one sitting. Fun! Keep up the great content!!!
Thank you sir!! We are multidimensional lol
you inspire me to get back into projects
Thank for the information in this video. My 07 is going under for the winter and plan on doing pretty much everything you have done as well. This will be a great resource. Previous owner said they fixed the normal oil leaks but signs are that they weren’t done correctly.
Glad it could help!
I feel for you, months between pulling it too peices and putting it back, looks like it's running better, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
I lusted after the Audi V8 all my youth.
When I was 23 I got a 1999 Audi A8 for peanuts thinking I made the deal of the century, that thing was slow and neglected.
Well, it stayed that way 😂
Not 90's minivan kinda slow but not fun either.
Thank you for the Audi comedy. Most of us have done this on the 4.2; this video proves that the 5.2 is just 2 more of everything.
Kudos for doing the injectors - prices for them have gone crazy.
You do this because it’s a solid engine. I wouldn’t have messed with the intake manifold. Leaks in the intake plastic components from cracked or missing parts are normal- most people can’t bill for the time to fix their mistakes.
Audi’s are fun to work on - there’s a stamped part number on everything. What’s not to like?
Great video. Thank you.
Thanks man. My engine has been solid since I worked on it. The rest of the car now has gained new issues 🤣
V10 metal and physical therapy! Love the 37 min mark and hey oooh the R5P7
I have the 2011 S6 and man you are not wrong about how difficult it is to fix. But definitely worth it!!
More garage stuff and the racing good to see many thanks for sharing this good luck cheers
Hacks, Bullshitters, and vehicle flippers is what gives the auto industry a bad rep. Good job unmolesting it 👍🏻
Thoroughly enjoyed the endeavor to get the Audi street worthy. I Also used to enjoy the daily videos when you & Logan were grease monkeys in Texas. I don’t know, I enjoy the step by step process people take to solve mechanical issues like yours to the point where you even create your own tools to help solve the problem. We are creative people and you ARE a creative CZcams(r). Thanks Mitchell and give Logan & the puppy my love
thanks man!
Good luck . Logan needs high speed video getter. 🎉
Own a S6 with the same engine. Full engine out, custom manifolds/exhaust. It is a beast to drive.
Love that sound!!!! Thanks
It’s awesome that you got the S8!!!
Fearless going into cars designed by engineers that have no appreciation for longevity! Best of luck sorting out all their good/bad ideas...96 Cadillac DeVille was one of the most pleasurable cars I ever drove...with a long list of well that didn't survive ohio winters and prolly like your Audi is on the list of "if I found the time and a good....whoa thats a lot of work!" projects.
Love the video, great job!
So cool to see you tearing into that V-10 felt like we were in the zone with you, especially when you were rebuilding the clips foe the injectors! I was watching you on tv so had to grab the phone, hopefully that adds to the views, probably not but were here for you! V-10 in Logans car or the Rolls!! Hmmm
Thanks again!
thanks Joe!!
Currently watching this video in my 08 A6 with the 4.2 and have the exact same valley oil leak that I’m in the process of getting fixed.
I personally prefer the older audi's over the newer or rear timing chain motors from 97 to 2004 they seem pretty good
Man I’m half way through bringing my 07 s8 back😭 I bought mine with a broken oil cooler, lines, and low oil pressure. Praying it’s not the head gasket but we shall see
That was an epic bubba job, well done on recovering it.👌
I’ve learned through the years no matter what car or truck you get used you’re going to have to fix something that someone has jerry rigged no matter what the price is. And if they won’t let you test drive it walk away it will have more problems than you got money to fix.
that´s what i thought too man...those tips are waaay over the top
Always love these breakdown vids
Just these vids in general
i am so excited to see this car healthy!!
Im excited to see this build. literally just started shopping for one of these. I hear allot of the work on these is engine out :/ so kinda scares me Curious to see your experience on this 🍻
So excited for this project of sad audi sadness.
Nice work man, I keep thinking of a 05-07 S6 to replace my 05 3.0 TDI A4 but seeing that mess lol
Look up Martin harp, he stuck this 5.2 v10 in a B5 Audi s4 with a manual. It’s a beast
Hey man, like your video. But you probably already know, this is like 15 years old car. You didn't expect it will go so easy)) but in end you can be proud. really. You done great 💪
I just bought one of these and I’m having the opposite. Original engine blew and a donor was meticulously rebuilt and installed by previous owner but I’m having nothing but issues with CELs and DTCs up the wazoo. Here you have an engine held together with hopes and dreams and it was fine just a little slow 😂😂😂😂
Great job 👍
nice work dude , huge acceleration difference
The man's got it done sounds frickn mean
Thank you for reminding me why I don’t work on Audi’s anymore.
I have a b9 s5 that has the 3.0 v6 turbo engine there is just something nice about audis always puts a smile on my face when i drive it
Normally that car gives +450-520 PS it is a Lambourghini Gallardo engine ... that car if fully taken care of is like a beast in street...
Great work man I've got the same car audi S8 V10 having issues with drivers light and information system has gone black. Brilliant the way you tackled all that work I wouldn't know where to start. Keep up the good work
thanks man!
Yes had my bulb done but they cut through two different tubes around air box and EPC light came on and found that fan belt had came off so front has got too come off.
I like it Mitchell. Good stuff
Great content thanks for sharing
I’ve saved a couple BMW’s from bad owners. My current car (05 BMW 545i 6 speed) sat outside behind a garage for 2+ years after the previous owner couldn’t get it running. I’ve fixed flood damage and everything on it. Good work on the Audi.
thanks man!
Hi Mitchell, can definitely relate to giving my Audi 2L Turbo a bootful occasionally. Not in the same sound league as your V10, but .........big smiles.
I have a d3 a8 4.2 V8 and i saw that acceleration clip and like you said yeah the v8 is faster than the broken s8 lol great content man! i wanna see this thing roar.
It’s like my girlfriends 2.0t might as well just save time pull the engine tear it all down and put it back together the right way. I tried the fixing stuff right once and it still wasn’t right so now I get to do it all anyways.
this car and the parts for it is so expensiv. i wish you luck and nervs
Outstanding job
thank you!
You are doing good job 💪💪
Good job hoss!
Definitely a worthwhile car to fix up. In good shape these are desirable cars worth upwards of 20k in good shape.
at 30.57 I was sure that it would start - very methodical and logical strip back - nice work. Actually thinking of buying one which seems to be in good order - not sure if your video has put me off or confirmed my desire lol
The Transporter 2 needs you to fix his car. You can do it!
I'm more interested in watching Mitchell learn about the Audi, than another Monte Carlo vid. Just imo
You can only make so many videos about the same car with the same problems before its redundant
Very cool vid.. Thanks
Thanks man
Ive taken on some crazy stuff in the past [an 87 t Type that was a basket I bought for 9500] but you have some courage with this. wow.
We drive it every day now!
gotta love that cheap used audi life. 🍻
I'd have probably done the same thing as you did and then be pissed at myself for knowing better.
I bought an 87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, I loved the car, except for the fact that 2 months after we got it (private owner btw) we started having to take it to the dealer to have it fixed, computer mgnt. control issues, then a month later, something else... and the dealer visits were all things I couldn't fix on my own, and every time, it was over $1000 to fix it, and after 3 visits, that was it for me, went to a Pontiac dealer and bought a Grand Prix. That was a good car with no issues at all. You get what you pay for. But that T-Bird was a LEMON !
My friend Ben always says “ it’s ok to have parts left over, it’s when you are missing parts you have the problem “.
amazing job mate. I am in NZ and still have to do this already leaking at only 90000km. Very good instructions but I probably go to put the bumper in service mode now I seen what issues you ran in with no service position regarding turning the engine and access to all those sensitive connectors.
Would be awsome if you guys just went live when you start working on the NASCAR with a camera pointing at the build while you guys are doing your thing. Great channel!
C’mon man!!!!!! Your on the home stretch now!!!!!! After all the work you just sis, this engine is going to run like no other! Should be a night and day difference😂🎉
I bought a Audi b6 a4 1.8t from a bad owner said it was unreliable I put 3k into it and some new suspension it’s a blast to drive the engine just needed few hoses and plugs and coils
The old "thinking you are half way done with your VW repair" groan, been there done that, dont want the Tshirt. lol
Lol this was a perfect video to explain to someone how workin on Audis is. Kinda wanna de you get your hands on a b5 s4 audi
Always need to start with a scan of the ecu with an Audi
You can do anything! 🎉
Was thinking about buying an 13 RS 5. If I do I know where I can take it to get the engine sorted if I have issues.😜 Great video!
Truly why does a person sell a vehicle, it's out of date or broken or about to, next time you can bite them down, learning curve, 😂 always a reason, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
