  • Little update on the VP9. Nothing crazy. I did fire 8 year old Golden sabers that have been in magazines. They shot just fine. The HKparts 18 round mag failed to lock the slide back so that's a thing. More testing on that never, because ammo is hard to find. Maybe in like 6 years.

    love your content! Don't love how my wallet cries cause of you, not cause of HK, though i wish LOL. Bought a Glock model 45 for EDC a year ago and the times are tough with ammo and gun availability so i scooped up another Glock 45, some more magazines and some ammo for decent pricing. Your rule of having backups (why I bought another same model gun) resonates so hard in todays times bro. Especially when shits so hard to get your hands on without giving up your first child. Hopeful for stability and ammo prices comes down so i can train more with live range ammo. Stay safe and keep the content coming!!

    Is that a solem tool extension? What are your thoughts on those? Do they give you new springs or do you use the old ones? I'm just a little worried that a spring meant for say, 10 rounds might run into reliability issues if I extend the capacity.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  Před 3 lety +2

      It's an HKparts +3 complete magazine (18 round). I like it for the VP9, but it doesn't fit into the P30's for some reason. I did a video on it before. I like them. But this one gave me problems on this outing. I have had it loaded for a long time and I'm not sure why it didn't lock the slide back this time. I tested it at the house and these were all 124gr+p Golden sabers so....not sure.

  • @grayclouds7781

    So what pistols other than glock 17 do you recommend for war use. Just curious about your picks. Also I'm having a problem with my VP9 trigger dragging. I've taken it apart and did a detail cleaning and still same trigger problem. Out the box trigger was great but after about 1800 rounds the trigger is terrible. Any ideas what it can be? Maybe just buy a new trigger and trigger bar assembly

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  Před rokem +2

      9mm GTW guns for me are a G17, P226, Beretta 92 series, P30/P30L or USP9.
      As far as the trigger dragging that's interesting. I've never seen or experienced that issue. I wonder if it's misaligned or dragging against a part of the frame. I would send it in to HK or James Williamson. The VP9 is like a swiss watch to work on. I don't have an issue working on the USP or P30 but the VP9 is a different animal.

  • @JG_1998
    @JG_1998 Před rokem +5

    I agree that the VP9 isn't as bomb proof as the USP or p30, but HK is sending VP9s to Ukraine so they must be at least somewhat combat ready. I got a VP9SK last month and so far I have ~1500 rounds through it, no cleaning, and I haven't had a single issue (besides the 15 round magazines failing to lock back the slide). They're definitely reliable guns for 99% of situations (even special forces).

    • @Gun_Dae
      @Gun_Dae Před 3 lety +4

      Beretta 92, Sig p226, hk usp, 1911s. Things that make a pistol a great suppressor host is that it doesnt blow carbon into your face (imagine getting campfire smoke into your eyes. That's basically what it feels like. Not fun), lockup time (this reduces chamber pop which adds unnecessary noise to the gunshot), reliability (guns get dirtier quicker suppressed. Can your gun still cycle reliably after getting all fouled up during the entire range session)

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  Před 3 lety +1

      I agree with @Gun Dae , he hit the nail on the head. All of those are great suppressor hosts. I'm also looking into how the P30/P30L perform suppressed and the HK45 is also a great suppressor host. But the Beretta 92, SIG P226, USP series (also the MARK 23) and a quality forged 1911 are the go to's for pistols.

    Ok, I missed the 4 free mag VP9 promo 😢 skimming through HKPRO, and saw the VP9 (after 2020) has the same drainage holes in the striker channel as the SFP9-M. The VP9 is also more robust than the SFP9 to handle +p ammo.

Mine was the original 15 round magazines. I recently purchased the 17 round magazines and it work for a bit off and on. Is it because the firearm was designed for 124gr ammo? Sometime ago, Alabama arsenal put a Hkvp9sk through a torture test. They put it in mud, sand, and submerged it in water. It passed the test by continuing to fire.
    Then, they ran the gun over with a chevy silverado, it continued to function and shoot. Then they shot the vp with a shotgun round twice! It looked like hell but was still functional and shootable !

      They all have 40 cal recoil springs in them, even the 9mm ones. While a VP9 might not be exactly be Glock level, a properly lubricated one (something I doubt MAC did) with NATO pressure 9mm would fare as well as a Beretta 92.

But the VP9SK is a surprisingly smooth shooter for a sub compact pistol. It shoots as smooth as the full size. I would say, depending on what you're missing/need at the moment. I'm going to respectfully disagree on the vp series build quality. In the striker fired handgun world, I think it's outstanding. I own glock 19x, 29, Sig p320xc, m&p 2.0 9mm, and Walther pdp's. Striker fired guns in generall have a different vibe and feel. I also have a Hkp30l for comparison. Anyway in terms of fit, finish, build quality, the Hk and walther pdp series seem a step or two above the brand's I mention in this reply, with the exception of the Hk p30l lem(none striker). The Sig p320 is the sidearm of the US military, and they take that to war.
      Sorry, I don't believe that the p320 is a better gun or more reliable than the Hkvp. Just my two cents. Fan of the channel for sure 👍

    The VP9 is a paradox for me. It works great, excellent capacity, ambi controls, Etc. It should check every box, for some reason it doesn't. I compare it to the USP and it just feels crappy. It honestly feels closer to a Canik quality wise than a Glock. Just doesn't feel like a pistol HK should have their Initials on.

      @navyman8903  Před 3 lety +1

      I get that feeling a little also but not to the degree you're describing. It's a great shooter and I love it for what it is. But I can't use it for everything confidently. Despite the surprise bad weather that got it all wet and sandy, which it shook off. Never had a malfunction or stoppage and they've always been great shooters in my hands. I guess the other hammer guns have spoiled me?

    • @patd5021
      @patd5021 Před 3 lety +2

      I've held a Canik TP9 in one hand and a VP9 in the other and gotten to shoot them side by side. In my opinion the VP9 blows it out of the water. The fit and finish, and overall feel is better. The Caniks come with decent stock triggers that are arguably better feeling than a stock Glock trigger but that's about it's only redeeming quality to me. I personally run a G19 Gen5 MOS and went that direction over an hk because of the price point and because I know it'll get the job done. Also the mag prices. I also personally feel that although the changes were minor compared to gen4's, the tiny amount they flared the magwell, lack of annoying finger grooves and better trigger are all improvements to me. Another side note about the TP9's, where I am currently the average price is about $500. They might be worth it if they were $299 like they were a couple years ago. I would definitely throw the extra $200 down for a VP9.

    Man I love your videos but this is full of incorrect information. Nothing about the VP9 is any less reliable than any other striker gun. Strikers have their weaknesses over hammer guns but that’s not exclusive to HK. The statement about the name Peoples Pistol meaning is a cheap gun to get into people’s hands is totally incorrect. Its name is carried over from the VP70 which was a 3 round burst gun with an attachable stock. Hardly a gun for your everyday guy. Not to mention it’s only called a VP9 in the US and is a SFP9 everywhere else. In prototype phase it was going to be called a P30X indicating no less care was put into it than a P30.
    Again not disrespect to you but this is just stuff you heard on the internet and are considering fact.
