    I’ve had a Holosun 515gm for just under 2 years. I bought it for a rifle I keep in my car for when I go to work so I didn’t want something expensive in case it was stolen. The only issue I’ve had out of it is the emitter seems to be getting dimmer? Fresh batteries and it’s still not as bright as day one. ok, keep in mind this person is talking about self defense. Saying you must carry with a round in the chamber is very narrow minded. I am an old person with much experience with many fire arms and many situations. these days i mostly am single action revolver as my personal greatest threat has been woodchucks digging at building foundations. i often carry a sig with an empty chamber around the farm. i have cameras and space that allow me time to decide if i should rack one. so on topic with which one is for you, only you decide

  • @burtdanams4426
    @burtdanams4426 Před 9 dny

    It's been pretty tough for me to decide on setups now that I'm living in the Salt Lake City metro area. Within 20 minutes you can go from somewhat dense urban environment, to very open suburbs, to steep mountains/canyons, to plains, to desert plains, to swampy marshes. My gut tells me to stick to 16", which is what I"m used to, and you are right that it is a system that we understand extremely well and it's much nicer on parts. Reducing the violence of the cycling action and reducing wear on parts is a major value in many aspects of the short-term and long-term functioning of the weapon for obvious reasons lol. But the other thing I need to consider is the fact that I am borderline disabled by health issues. I would never be able to survive in an actually dire situation, and I can't even exercise or lift weights the way I used to (used to be a highly competitive endurance and strength athlete; mostly focused on rock climbing and power lifting, which I know is a weird combo, but that's what worked for me). So I'm not nearly as strong, resilient, or conditioned as I used to be, and it's hard for me to keep my fitness routines on a daily basis. Although, when I think realistically about the sorts of situations I would need to act in, and especially after using rifles between 10.5-13.7", I definitely understand the value and the utility, and especially the quickness that you just can't get with a fully loaded-up rifle with all your lil accessories at the front and, maybe, heavy optics on top, especially if you have a secondary night vision scope or IR scope in front of the normal scope. So it's been a tough choice for me, especially considering that ammo choice will make increasingly larger differences in performance relative to the barrel length. 16"-20" I don't have to worry as much about ammo selection for velocity. I do get the advantage of living at a high elevation though, about 4500ft above sea level, so the air here is very thin, but it is also very dry almost all the time. I think I just need to spend more time really thinking about what my actual priorities are and what actually matters to me in a rifle. 16" with a good suppressor is a pretty long fella, but I mean, there were plenty of guys in Fallujah clearing urban buildings with 20" rifles no problems lol. And I guess I would also need to figure out how much utility and value I actually get from switching to something like a suppressed 11.5"-12.5" rifle. It is significantly easier to drive the weapon around, but that's also a lot more more pressure and muzzle blast that I'm throwing into my can and obviously much less effective range. Right now my gut feeling is to go with something like a 12.5"-14.5" suppressed with a flow-through can. Most of what I know about barrel length selection and terminal ballistics and all that stuff is mostly confined to what I know from the technical side of these weapon systems. Looking at research, looking at engineering documents and military trials etc. etc. I should probably just watch the rest of your videos about barrel length selection and see what other people have to say about the subjective and personal side of this stuff instead of just looking at spreadsheets and test data lol. Probably would be more helpful to just make a decision based on the practical usage of the weapons at 200-300yds or less and see what people's experiences are Probably will just need different rifles lol

    Berry compliance means that tactical gear and weapon accessories are essentially the last bastion of total US made products. If you chose, after all that, to still pick a Chinese product, then you always planned on buying Chinese. Buy American where you can.

  • @burtdanams4426
    @burtdanams4426 Před 9 dny

    Dwell time is not the length from the gas port to the end of the barrel. In firearm engineering, dwell time is the time from Ignition to extraction, that's it. For some reason AR people took dwell time, misunderstood it, and then claimed that Dwell time is the time the bullet is past the gas port, but still in the barrel. If you don't believe me, look it up. AR people just use it incorrectly to talk about an entirely different aspect of the gun. What you are talking about is more like blowdown time, since all 5.56 barrels should have roughly the same bore volume per inch. So a longer gas system and a longer barrel means the time it takes for the pressure in the barrel to reach ambient pressure, i.e. blowdown time, will be longer, meaning the gas port will be under pressure for a longer period of time.
