  • Craig Burley, Steve Nicol, Alejandro Moreno and Dan Thomas of ESPN FC discuss -- and in some cases go off -- on the "arrogance" of Real Madrid after a 4-1 loss vs. Ajax in UEFA Champions League, discussing president Florentino Perez's decision to take Julen Lopetegui for the Spain national football team, Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer to Juventus, Santi Solari's struggles with management, captain Sergio Ramos' absence, trouble with Gareth Bale, Isco, Marcelo and Karim Benzema, Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric's inability to bring the team forward, the struggles of fellow midfielders Casemiro and Toni Kroos, possibly targeting Harry Kane in the transfer market, Dusan Tadic's impressive performance, and more.

    I think we are starting to realize that Ronaldo was more than just a weapon for Real Madrid. He was a leader who demanded perfection from himself and teammates. I think it is ridiculous to think his leaving is not the primary reason for Real Madrids collapse. From winning three Champions league in a row to knocked out by AJAX at home in the round of 16. Also have you noticed that while Ronaldo was at Real Madrid he helped two midfielders (Ozil and Modrich) look significantly better than they actually are? It is because Ronaldos movement off the ball puts so much pressure on the opposing defenses that midfielders can thrive. Ronaldo might not always play the most beautiful brand of football anymore (i.e. dribbling past 3 defenders or scoring free kicks) but he has an incredibly high IQ and has more of an impact than initially apparent.

    The team honestly behaves like they are bigger than the game itself. Alot of their fans act the same way. As if madrid football and the world revolves around them. They won 4 finals in 5. That doesn't mean that the games are counted already and that the trophies are theirs already. The entire team got a reality check and I believe that it's going to be a long time before they lift silverware again. Considering the amount of rebuilding they need.

I'd think the 'experts' would be able to recognise quality and be slightly better than all of us keyboard analysts. As a football fan (Barcelona fan), watching Real Madrid this season has been confusing. This is without a doubt the worst week in RM in recent memory.
    I cant stand people saying that Real Madrid is nothing without Ronaldo. The truth is that Ronaldo and Real Madrid need each other. Watching there last three games vs Ajax, and x2 Barcelona, Real Madrid created plenty of chances that should have resulted into goals. What they are lacking here is Ronaldo's goalscoring ability, not Ronaldo, for the totality of his game, although most parts of his games have diminished over the years (playmaking and dribbling), and is more goal scoring centred.
    This is a clear distinction, Real Madrid dont need Ronaldo, what they needed was a player with a high caliber goal scoring ability (Kane or Lewandowski). When you lose Ronaldo, you lose 40-50 goals a season. Real Madrid wingers, midfield, and full backs, WILL create chances, they are amongst the best team in the world at that, and thats why Ronaldo's goal scoring numbers were so high. Its a huge reason why Ronaldo averaged so many shots per game. If that doesnt support my argument, then look at Ronaldo at Juve, with their midfield, wingers and full backs. Ronaldo is projected to only score between 30-35 goals this season at his current rate, he doesnt get the type of service at Juve as he did in Real Madrid.
    Real Madrid need Harry Kane or Lewandowski. Sure they are not on the caliber of Ronaldo's goal scoring ability, but they arent far from it, these guys are proven 30-40 goals a season type goalscorers without the service of what Ronaldo had at Real Madrid.
    Ronaldo and Real Madrid were just a match made in heaven. Not discrediting Ronaldo for what he meant for Madrid, but he become more of an important piece of the engine than being whole engine itself, especially when you had the best fullbacks, best midfield and world class wingers.

      @uyema5275 Před 5 lety +13

      @@rickyjames3608 We are not talking about hypothetics here. We are talking about reality. Give those chances Madrid produced to a world class goal scorer like Kane or Lewandowski, and they bury them. Stop thinking that Cristiano is the only player who can score those. Your acting as if Cristiano is the only player in the world who had a strong confidents or mentality. Every athletes has one to get to the level they are at. There is no natural goal scorer on that team, and Benzema plays more of a CF, with his main ability being a playmaker rather as a goal scorer.
      Real Madrid literally replaced a 40-50 goals per season with 0 goals per season. Try and argue that point? My point still stands, Real didnt buy anyone who can replace Cristiano Ronaldo, the goal scorer, not Cristiano Ronaldo the player.

Luka Modric covers more ground and has mroe duties than Ronaldo, same with Marcelo, Carvajal, Casemiro, and Ramos. Cristiano had no defensive duties other then defending corners on the near post or being a person on the wall during a set-piece. Learn football man. Being an engine is someone who covers ground.

How can a whole captain take such a off decision that lemme take a deliberate yellow card to prepare myself for the next. Like he knows the trophy has been officially licensed with their name Real Madrid and they're supposed to at anytime in any season, which l think sounds "unprofessional" for a player like him. Again, the mentality the players themselves took into the game is another factor. And it's the same as their captain. You already knew how this team "Ajax" was attacking so you shouldn't go off on any circumstances just to underrate them because you are better said than them, the world known favourites.. and so what??!
