I got hold of the prewar 'Supermodels' leaflets, buying the extra parts I needed to make ones which particularly interested me, ending up with roughly a No 10 + collection. Having grown up with Meccano, which taught me a great deal of my engineering know-how, I would never part with it. As for the instructions saying something was 'simple' (a very relative term) I recall the guidance for the pre-war No 8 RNLI lifeboat and tractor - "Construction of the lifeboat is obvious from the photograph......." a slight understatement if ever there was one...... (But a lovely, and very different model....)

Superb ship model. I like the flying plate bender too. It produces top class work.

With the addition of Electkits, gear sets and additional motors the gantry crane could have an electro mechanical programmer.

Yes, the 2010 SELMEC exhibition. It has also been on this channel as a single video for a while. The 1974 Meccano magazine does show a set 10 at £130 from MWModels.

Must have taken quite a while to built each of one these. Thanks for sharing!

Great video. The problem with Meccano is that is a bottomless pit of expense, once a model is built, there is a reluctance to take it apart, so for the next model you plan to build, you need a whole new set of parts, and this just repeats with every model you build, as it looks like it has with you. Good Meccano parts and sets are getting harder, and harder to come by, and those that are worth buying are very expensive. It's a great hobby, especially in our latter years, as it makes the mind work. I'd love to know how much you've spent over the years on on Meccanno. Keep it up, enjoyed

People are different. I don't normally have a problem dismantling. Take some photos or a video. Its much easier to dismantle once that is done.

I have no problem dismantling models, in fact I quite enjoy it, it's like reverse engineering. But I do document everything I make, with photos and a video if appropriate.

According to the inflation calculator, 2020 prices are about 10x 1974 prices, so in today's money Set 10 would cost £1350. I dreamed of having Set 10, but all I had was Set 4, the Clock Kit and the Army Multikit. An impossible dream far beyond my family's modest income...

I properly have &5,00 to $6,00 in my meccano brought over many years. I don’t drink, smoke or go to the movies, so consider this my vise, and money well spent.
