Quite simply the finest miniature engineering system ever devised. Frank Hornby would be so proud of these models.
(I built a version of the giant blocksetter crane a few years ago, and my wife was very glad when I dismantled it. That's one modern problem with Meccano. It doesn't fit modern little houses so easily....)

i grew up with meccano learned everything mechanical from it, just one question is it still made lots of these models look like new pieces

Yes, you can still buy it all! Some of it is sold under the name "Meccano Erector" There is a lot more plastic in it now though.

I don’t know where I’d be without my automatic plasticine-hitting machine..

When I was a kid (~70 years ago) the adverts at the back of the Meccano Magazine always had on or two people looking for "geared roller bearing" in the Wanted ads. I never saw a geared roller bearing nor found out what it was good for.

i like the background chatter and the fact that the children are getting involved . how many sets did one have to buy to make the very large models ? when i see modeling like this , all i can do is sit back and smile . :):):):)

Yes Michael, there are some wonderful models. A lot of imagination and thought gone into them.
