  • UPDATE: I still have this truck as of 6/20/2024. It has over 105,000 miles on it now. It does burn some oil between oil changes roughly 1.5 to 1.75 quarts over 5,000 miles. I now change the oil more frequently when the OLM gets to 30%. This is around 5,000 miles on the oil change interval. Truck still runs file, and has plenty of power and fuel mileage is still good.
    Changing the oil on the GM 2.7L Turbomax L3B engine is really simple, can be done in your driveway in just a few minutes. See below for important specs and part numbers. For reference my truck is a 2022 Silverado LTD Custom.

    GM isn't the only OEM that is putting plastic oil pans on their engines. they're all doing it

      @@fondupot As of 2023 model year they have switched back to metal. Ease of manufacturing with needing to make a lot more with this being the standard engine in the Colorado/Canyon now as well.

      @fondupot  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @joshuahedrick I wonder if the pan will transfer over to the other engines with plastic pans. For anyone who wants to have a metal pan. I’ll have to do some digging.

    How many miles do you have on that truck? Did you have any issues with the engine at all? Great video 👍

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 3 měsíci +4

      Currently have around 102,000 miles. I’ve had zero mechanical issues. It does consume oil, approximately 1-1.5 quarts per oil change. Every 5000 miles. I am currently testing a high mileage oil to see if it helps with consumption.

    And at what price?…$$

      My company bought this truck in January 2022. It’s a 2022 Silverado Custom LTD.
      I think the sticker price was $47,000

    Did you buy a new plug (blue o-ring) or reuse the existing one?

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 8 měsíci

      If you buy a new plug the, the o-ring is already included. Not sure if you can replace the o-ring alone.

      @linos9457 Před 8 měsíci

      I was going to reuse my plug. Not sure if I can. What’s recommended?

    Why is my truck saying my Oil Filter is at 35% life but my engine Oil is at 75% do I have to change just the oil filter?

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před rokem +3

      There is no “oil filter” monitor. You’re probably misreading the “air filter” monitor. The oil life monitor is what you need to be following for engine oil. And you should change the oil filter every time you change the engine oil.

    How often is an oil change recommended on this vehicle?

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před rokem

      Use the oil life monitor. I typically change the oil when it gets down to 20%. That’s about 6000 miles on each oil change.

    • @dang8491
      @dang8491 Před 4 měsíci

      Should be sooner than what gm suggests because it will help keep the turbos from breaking down.

      @fondupot  Před 4 měsíci

      I’ve got over 100,000 miles on this truck doing oil changes between 20-30%. It’s fine.

    I take used motor oil to the recycling center. They use old oil to.power a steam locomotive. Who woulda thought.....

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před rokem +1

      Yep! I do the same thing. My county has a recycling center about 10 mins away, I save up a bunch of old oil and dump it a few times a year.

    Plastic oil pans? Hey engineers! The pan should slope to the plug to allow the dirtiest oil to drain out.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před měsícem

      It does slope. It seems they’ve discontinued the plastic pans on newer trucks. They switched back to metal.

  • @cody4089
    @cody4089 Před 9 měsíci

    Not a big fan of that oil pan or plug. Not made for longevity that’s for sure. Just did mine today.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 9 měsíci

      Apparently some newer trucks with the 2.7 have an aluminum pan and a regular drain plug. I wonder if it would swap in?
      I have a few spares of the plastic drain plug so I replace it every few oil changes.
