    Nice, straightforward video! I'm doing my first oil change on a used 2021 Sierra I recently picked up. Your instructions supplied most of the info I needed and the indicator reset in the comments supplied the rest! In my small town, I could only find the Mobil 1 ESP x2 DexosD 0w20 at Autozone, which is an acceptable type. I see some places are offering Duramax oil change kits online, which may be worth checking out in the future. I'll be back for other maintenance videos. Keep up the good work!

I'm averaging 26 in town with almost zero highway driving. 33-35 mpg is easily done at 70mph, 29 mpg at 79mph. I recently drove from Orlando to Maine and back any averaged 31.5 for the entire 10 day trip, including mountain driving in New Hampshire.

    Wow gm uses the same oil filter size for all their Sierra engines… I have the 2.7 Sierra 1500 and just did it’s first oil change

    That 3/4 to one turn means spin the filter until the rubber gasket makes contact, then 3/4 to one turn. Also, you should really pre fill your filter, especially since it’s a vertical filter and easy to do. Your oil system isn’t dry when you start the engine that way.

    • @GilbertGardens
      @GilbertGardens  Před 3 lety +4

      It's definitely good advice I personally never pre fill oil filters. I understand the dry start thing but it's never been an issue and I've done about 2 million km worth of oil changes on different ecodiesels in the family, 1 cummins and now this GM. I guess if I lost an engine and it was linked to dry starts I'd have a different opinion though lol.

    "Dexos" is a synthetic oil specification written by GM. ACDelco is an auto parts brand owned by GM. So GM recommending that only their oil be used in their engines is not engineering, it's marketing. "Dextrose" is a type of sugar in corn and wheat. Do not put sugar in your oil.

    The level didn't register on the dipstick. For some strange reason I have another oil dipstick under the back seat. This dipstick was 36 inches long and the one on the motor was 34 1/4 inches long. The longer dipstick showed half way on the dip stick.
    Can you please let me know the length of your oil dip stick?

Just got my last complimentary oil change, from dealer on 2021 Yukon XL Denali Diesel done this morning. Asked the dealer how much is the oil change if I bring my own oil and filter, they said $30 CAD. The Canadian dealers sell oil and filter 3 times more expensive than RoackAuto. RockAuto sells 7 quarts of oil and one filter (both ACDELCO) for $103.17 CAD including shipping, duty and taxes, delivered to your doorstep. If you travel (by road) to US often you can save on duty, shipping and taxes by having it delivered to a friend or family in US and bring it with you on your way back.

    I totally agree with Mark and yes, besides not liking Chevy after screwing up the Diesel name ~40 years ago, I like to punch a drain hole in the oil filters and have no idea why our back yard mechanic
    did not refill the very small oil filter either before re-installing it in a very convenient upright position.

      Mostly time also I don't usually trust mechanics to work on my stuff. IE I bought a new 2500 6.6 duramax and had an argument with the parts guy as he told me three times it takes 6 liters of oil lol. Takes 10.

    Why bother to use a torque wrench! Maybe you are a lot stronger or weaker? If you are going to make content please make sure you are using the correct parts and tools! BTW it cracks me up the guy buys a $80,000 truck and brings it to his son-in-law to do the first oil change! What did he save? What did he risk?

      I've saved several thousands between oil, fuel, transmission, diffs etc. Never mind parts changes. I just bought a 100k 2500 big duramax at4 and did my first oil change on it. I've never had a single issue on any vehicle.

      Absolutely nothing wrong with after market parts. Most of the time the same factory makes several different brands of filters etc. Hey if you need a friend to talk to, just let me know I'll be here to listen.

      @@GilbertGardensIt’s not the EGR. Diesel oil has always turned black, even before EGR was used on diesel engines. It’s from combustion blow by gasses getting past the piston rings and it’s completely normal.
