      The facts are most want big displacement but they are going away because of emissions requirements. So we know the choice will be taken away from us. I only buy mid sized GM trucks and the new GM gen 3 mid sized twins only offer the 2.7L turbo 4 cylinder so I hope it works great at towing 5-6K since it is rated to tow 7700ibs. We will see how they hold up. Thanks for the info.

      Hey Steve, I have a trim/option question. I'm actually very interested in the 2.7T powerplant, yet I can't seem to choose between the 2.7 Custom Trail Boss and the 2.7 LT trail boss. From my understanding, there's no advantage in paying more for the Lt version since both trims seem to be completely left out in the options and packages department. From what I'm seeing, neither Custom or LT have selectable options without them (the site models builder) asking you to choose the two other engine options. It's like the 2.7 is left out in the options department. Only the little add-ons are available (block heater, bed covers). Nothing is available (such as safety package and towing packages and all the other goodies). Can you help me identify the issue here and recommend between the two trims (keeping the 2.7 powerplant) please?

    I own a 2022 Silverado custom with 12k miles and thus far is PERFECT. Is incredible how this full side truck runs and feel with the 2.7. Every car manufacturer has its lemons, I have seen Mercedes, toyotas etc.. stranded in the highway. With that said, this engine/truck combo are well built and years down the road will be a well known good trucks/engines. The one, and the only big difference is the sound, do to the naturally of the liters, the 4 cyl will never has the sound of the v8. In my opinion, dont mess with the 2.7 exhaust system, leave it factory and you have a great truck. Also keep in mind, this are light duty trucks.

I went ahead and got a 2.7L GMC Elevation 2020 1st Gen. I tow our Travel Trailer 5,287 LBS dry weight including payload 6,477LBS; Turbos are great for towing; fell in love with the LOW END TORQUE! The V8 simply doesn't have it on the GRADES while towing. Yet I'm a V8 fan; but for the price and fully loaded truck with a payload of 1900lbs 4X2. This truck has not had ONE PROBLEM makes 3 YEARS end of month! I have managed to get 29 mpg from Key Largo, FLA to Big Pine Key, FLA averaging 48-52 miles per hour. Regardless if I was going slow. There is no truck other then a diesel that can capture that type of MPG even at a slower speed of 48 to 52 mph. I capture 24-25 mpg's Rural Roads with no stops at 53-55 mph

    great video.. There's an interview with the GMC designer behind the 2.7 turbo. Very interesting to watch. Link below.
    People say the 2.7 will be over taxed in the higher rev range but why are you in the higher rev range.. you don't need to rev it that high in order to get the full torque numbers vs the 5.3 that requires you reaching a higher rev to get similar results. The 2.7 never needs to see redline in order to do anything. Maximum torque comes at a very low range. Unless you are doing burnouts and 1/4 mile drag races, I don't think you can blow this up. Lifter issues on the other hand, are no different whether you have a 2.7, 5.3 or 6.2.. It's been a known issue on a small number of high mileage GMC/Chevy trucks. There's a great video interview with one of the GMC engineers who designed the 2.7 turbo. understanding that it was built from the ground up as an engine for these trucks is interesting vs attaching a turbo to an existing engine. The 2.7 was build around the turbo concept, not the other way around. Here's the interview. czcams.com/video/oC5z7B-uecM/video.html

And when your towing something and hit a hill and the vehicle down shifts automatically the revs go up. What they don't tell you is that torque don't kick in till you got the rev and the turbo kicks in. Mpg are BS my buddy has the 2.7l and I have the 5.3l and towing a 2000lb trailer his 2.7 gets like 7mpg and is a dog bone while my 5.3 towing the same exact trailer gets 16-17 mpg and don't feel the trailer . The truck is faster than my previous 5.3 and spin those big 24" rims and 35" tires with no problem and I have boats and trailers and it never lacked power so it was just not a question for me.

    Let me ask. I have been selling 5.3L for about 10 years now, and they used to get on the window sticker up to 22 on the highway. That was back in 2014-2015. Now the 2023 Silverado weighs less but only gets EPA estimated 20 on the highway. No GM Rep has been able to explain to me why this is. My guess (with no evidence) is that they are purposely making the 5.3 get less MPG and get the same as the 2.7L to push along the 2.7L, due to its poor sales in Rural America. What do you think?

    • @memrjm39
      @memrjm39 Před 7 měsíci

      It probably has to do with how they rated their old fuel saver features that don't exist. Remember, in the mid 2010s gm had this feature that would shut down cylinders on the V8s to save fuel when power wasn't needed. So if you were going 20 in a school zone it would drop to use 4 cylinders and save you fuel. They did away with that tech in the late 2010s because the system was causing all sorts of other engine problems and so they had to change their actual estimates and couldn't game it with that tech anymore. It was a cool idea, but the system problems it caused killed it as viable and the v8s with that are regarded as less then dependable

    So my story with this motor so far. It was in the shop with two oil leaks one the pan and one from the cooler. The Dealership went thru THREE oil pans with leaks before they could get it to stop leaking. As you can see by my post below Chevy responded and I was given a 'case' number. The dealership did a good job but it took a lot longer than expected to fix and the way they fixed it was to gloop the silicone on the pan in such a way as to not leak. I've only got 16K on this 2022. Chevrolet called me and said they opened a case and would call me back last friday. Friday came and gone I left two messages with their representative. Bottom line is this 2022 2.7 Turbo Should not be leaking oil at all in TWO places.

    • @Roberto-gp3yx
      @Roberto-gp3yx Před rokem +1

      Your right it shouldn’t be leaking… the only reason that pan should leak is if the truck has had the oil control pump replaced
      I have mine go bad shy of the 30k mile factory warranty (2.7 gmc sierra)
      The dealership had to removed the sealant that they had put and redo the job again
      Since than no leaks
      Then 10k ish miles later the transmission oil pump went out which explained the transmission shuttering and once it was replaced all that was gone
      Over all it’s a great engine if gm replaces the oil pan with a metal one
      If a person drives as much as I do, the truck should be inspected at least once a week to ensure it alway has the right amount of oil
      Lastly, trash the Bridgestone tires that they come with at purchase and instal some pirreli tires all season/ or AT plus tires ride quality and Drive ability is much better

Would have cost at least $6k more for 5.3 to achieve what? Very similar payload, and towing rating, but better @ towing due to torque increase from 383 ft lb V8 to 430 ft lb I4 turbo. I'll reevaluate in 5 yrs when drivetrain warranty expires. So far, 3,000 miles, love it. Engine warms up super quick. Low rpm grunty torque. But if I were shopping a full-size GM truck, could pass up a chance to own one the best V8s in automotive history? Certainly not if its fuel economy is nearly identical to the 2.7's! In fact, from what I have heard and read about the 5.3's highway efficiency, I wouldn't be surprised if it were to use substantially LESS fuel than the 2.7 during steady cruising at 75-80 MPH.

Now I'm a V8 fan but not the 5.3 rather have the 5.7Hemi or 5.0 Coyote. I had recently the a 5.0 Mustang but had to sell it. Insurance cost are simply out of control.

From my experience, the GM turbo technology just isn't there yet. If you're trading in your truck under warranty every few years that's fine. but what about the guys who want to buy a truck and drive it longer term and not have to worry about getting shafted with an EV because the turbo went.

A 2.7L V6 has the bottom end of a 1.35L 3-cylinder with only 4 main bearings, a much weaker engine design.

    I’ve got 25,000 on it and it’s been a blast. I leveled it and put 33x12.50’s on it, and it lost 1 mpg.
    Now that it’s broken in? I average 17 mpg in a primarily rural area, with normal driving. That’s beating my 2011 Tacoma that it replaced. And with a lift and BFG All terrains dragging it down.
    Overall, the fuel economy is impressive.

    I am going to throw in my two cents, so using some common sense, something sorely lacking in today's world, what distinguishes a small displacement engine and a larger displacement engine doing the same work? 1. Well let's see, the smaller engine is stressed to move the same weight as a larger engine that loafs doing the same job which historically means less longevity overall. 2. Is it strange that they both get about the same milage doing the same work? 3. So this engine does have a AFM system which has never been tried before, a 3-piece sliding camshaft sleeve which deactivates cylinder 2 and 3 when conditions warrant it, a fuel milage position and a performance position. 4. Let's not forget the 2 balance shafts under the crank to smooth the engine out. 5. Now GM says that they can run on 87 octane, but to get the best performance they recommend at least 91 octane, figure that. To me the trucks style and looks are great and personally I would go for the 5.3 which as of this model year is experiencing excessive oil consumption so much that GM has put out a TSB on it, but that is another story,

    I had a 4 cylinder turbo in my last truck and I hated it more than anything. Traded the truck off with 29,000 miles. My problem with the 4 banger turbos is how they run in super cold temperatures. I would start my truck, drive about 10 feet, and then it would bog down, drive 10 feet, bog down. I would have to put it in neutral and rev it up for a while for it to even move. I called the dealership and they told me 4 cyl/turbos need minum 15 minutes of warming up before they run properly. Went away from that engine and now I just start my truck and drive away with zero issues even in negative temps. If you live in super cold temperatures and don't have time to let your truck run for 15 minutes everytime you drive it, find something else. They can build the 2.7 cheaper. EVERYTHING with GM is MONEY, even if it doesn't work, they DON'T care, they've already "gotchata"

      It’s not mileage but emissions that are driving it. And for “simplicity” the Gen V V8s are not simplistic at all, especially the refresh V8s with dynamic fuel management. If people really wanted simplistic like you say they’d be clamoring for EVs.

      @@IVloses Yeah EV’s lol another unproven technology that people are starting to realize may not be the best option. Like I said earlier, I’ll keep buying my proven NA engines as long as I have a choice. For the record I’d buy the 2.7 before I’d even consider an EV.

    For 2022 and up 2.7 is a better choice vs the current 5.3. Current 2.7 is overbuilt and will take abuse. Wish Chevrolet would make a 3.5 straight 6 turbo or something like that. Would be an easy 400hp engine with probably 550lb of torque

    Now It's clear that those 2.7 engines aren't selling or too many issues with this truck and no one is buying them rebates n incentives come with a hidden cost

    Noone seems to mention that the 2.7 requires premium gas and the V8 doesn't. You're not saving a dime in the long run and with the upcoming wars there may be times you won't get premium at all.

      2.7 turbo vs 5.3 v8 is $6,000 less = 40,000 miles worth of fuel. jeez.

    The 2.7 will not last it’s a smaller motor working harder for the same power witch means it will wear out much faster no if ands or buts that’s how engines work so that price difference doesn’t mean anything in the long run

    • @ews360
      @ews360 Před 21 dnem

      2.7 makes 12% more torque @ 25% less rpm than 5.3.
