I can't believe you chose this for a reaction. Nobody reactions to this masterpiece.
everyone that stumbled across this song felt like they discovered universal gold. a timeless masterpiece.
You got to play him Exhibit C next !
Definitely!
Definitely
Shit… he should’ve started him out with exhibit C first!🤦🏾♂️😂😂
Yes!
💯
Jay Electronica literally made this in the crib and dropped it on MySpace back in the day and look at where it took him
"better in tune with the infinite" would be a good single for dad to listen to. nice to see some love for jay electronica
One of my favourite songs all of time. Thanks for watching!
@@frontroom please show pops better in tune!
One of my favorite songs!
Better In Tune is just legendary
“He’s a thinking man’s rapper” that’s a great way to explain him. Wow
"He's a thinking man's rapper."
Precisely.
Fantastic choice. This mixtape is a masterpiece, even with the minimum track list. You don’t listen to Jay Electronica, you experience Jay Electronica.
I had never heard of this song before or even from Jay Electronica. It blew me away. I am very grateful to you Kai and your father for introducing me to this kind of music. It is so nice that you guys are not afraid to go deep into the meaning and music and not just react to mainstream hip hop.
Im so glad you listened to this amazing track! With each listen I find I get invested in it more. Thanks Wannes!
#1
Also on here look up act 2: patents of nobility ....this one has amazing visuals put to the songs in the suite....all the best
“I took Eternal Sunshine and I looped it….. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind…”
He’s literally saying he took the motion picture soundtrack of the film ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ and looped the main theme.
Although the music is indeed very beautiful, it was actually created and produced entirely by a man named Jon Brion, for film ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ (one of my all time favourite films, absolutely stunning, just like the soundtrack).
A quick google search will tell you he’s worked with many incredible artists, most notably Elliott Smith and most recently the late great Mac Miller.
Brion and Miller were working on the album ‘Circles’ together and Brion is even quoted when speaking about Miller “I hadn’t been so excited and blown away by such talent” “He really was an exceptionally talented musician, like something I’d never seen before”. When Miller passed, the piecing together of the project, which was just a collection of ideas at this point, was left on the shoulders of none other than Brion himself. If I remember correctly, he had anxiety and sleepless nights trying to put it all together and fill in the gaps in the direction that he he thought Miller was heading in.
Personally, Jon Brion is up there with some the greatest musical minds, very similar to Brian Eno in a sense, although, Eno has the track record and the mud on his boots to “1-up” on Brion. Thanks for reading my nerdy essay…. If you did🤣
16:46 he's referring to a line in a Luther Vandross song "A house is not a home"
Thanks!
Jay Electonica and Blu were my favorite underground rappers of the late 2000s, it would be cool to see a reaction to Blu - Amnesia
Blu is an absolute savage.
Incredible to see this man absorb the evolution of HIP-HOP. You're father is indefinitely now a part of the culture as well.
Damn Jay Electronica now that is a suprise.
Luther Vandross is a R&B singer from the 1980’s. He has an extremely popular song, “A House is Not a Home” where he says “a chair is still a chair…” It’s a good song and it will add to what you understand about this song from Jay Electronica.
Exactly....and Dogon tribe double entendre +reference. Like who does that 🤯
"A chair is still a chair. Even when there is mo one sitting there" Is a verse from Luther Vandross song A house is not a home.
I cannot believe you did a Jay elect track!!! Major props my guy. Jay don't get the recognition he deserves and it's great to see you react to him. He has so much people could react to. Dude is just brilliant. Your father is spot on with "he's a thinking man's rapper". 100%.
Wow. Stumbled across this video and this EP is a straight masterpiece. Never thought I’d see the day a father and son react to Act I!
Hope you enjoyed, Myles! - Kai’s dad
One of the most interesting and perplexing rappers to ever exist, glad you guys chose this
MICK JENKINS! yall need to listen to dude! nobody ever react to him. He fire. worthy of yalls attention for sure
Facts!!
i concur!!!
I listen to this song at least once every two weeks and when I do I repeat it at least two times, Great choice!
Whenever I have fifteen minutes to spare before doing something else, I put this on!
@@frontroom hey Man love your Chanel alot! I think ur dad would love ,2pac unconditional love, the message Lyrics and the beat His sooo beautiful, one of the Line is "my mission is to be more than just a rap musician
The elevation of today's generation, if I could make 'em listen"-2pac , m'y bad for the orthographe im french peace and Much love!
such a good choice. It's astounding how few folks have heard/reacted to this.
One of the greatest discovery reviews /reactions out there
This has got to be the coolest video I’ve seen in a while. Everything about this, music, Jay Elec, breaking down lyrics. This is dope, y’all
Thanks so much Emir!
He’s from New Orleans , Louisiana and a rabbit hole if curious to dive into would be Voodoo, also known as New Orleans Voodoo, it’s an African diasporic religion which originated in Louisiana, now in the southern United States. It arose through a process of syncretism between the traditional religions of West Africa, the Roman Catholic form of Christianity, and Haitian Vodoo. OMG I just got in my car while still typing and Ezekiel’s Wheel just started playing wtf that creeped me out hahaha
14 minutes in and I'm still super excited. Absolutely love Jay Electrica! Masterpiece!
Wow, I can't believe you are sharing this one with him. Absolutely one of my favorite MCs, ever. Hats off to you for this one.
Considering your dad is impressed by masterful lyricism in rap/hip hop, chances are he'd appreciate Eyedea, one of the most talented lyricists ever IMO. Check out Eyedea & Abilities - 'Burn Fetish' and 'Smile'.
Jay Elect is one of the best rappers ever. Would be great if he saw this.
Damn i never heard of this masterpiece, thanks for introducing me to it. 🙏
J. Elect's "Victory" mixtape is one of my all time favorites..
Y’all goated for this one. JAY one of the greatest lyricist ever! Please show him the latest debuted album
How cute when dad said “Erykahhh”
Love the lyric addition!
I’ve never heard of J and I’m totally pissed. This was a work of art.
Wow!
@@tiagotv7697 bad that I never heard of him?
@@TOBEINTHELIFE well I know most people who aren't diehard hip hop fans aren't familiar, but they've at least maybe heard of him. He's just been around for awhile now and has been cosigned by so many iconic hip hop artists I just get surprised when I come across someone who hasn't heard of him
@@TOBEINTHELIFE it's not a biggie just surprising
I found him pretty late myself..don't worry. He's a completely unique artist.
I've always understood that Willy skit as the industry telling Jay he's not welcome because he does things so differently and he breaks the rules
Wow this is an amazing selection! More Jay Elec reactions!
Your dad will ball his eyes out if he hears Tupac - Life Goes On 😭😭 An absolute classic
The loop is a movie score is what's crazy
Thank you for reacting to this.. one of the most special pieces of art that doesn’t get talked about enough..
you can tell this influenced earl’s song “solace” which would be a good one to review next
GOTTA DO "DANCE WITH THE DEVIL" BY IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE! Dad will be able to understand the lyrics and follow the story easily and will be blown away by it!
Yes I have been wanting to suggest this song as well. At first I thought it might be a little rough for them especially the end. But after binge watching their videos I think they can handle it.
My friend and I had the same reaction in 2007 while sitting in computer class in high school when we listened to Eternal Sunshine
Young man....what you're doing....you're knowledge of hip hop to me....is almost unmatched. And to get your dad involved.....and for him to enjoy what he does with you.....is a beautiful thing to see. I'm curious to know did you ask your dad to get involved with you to do this or....how did you 2 pairing up come about? Ima fan, lil brotha. Please keep it up. Shoutout to pops!!!!!.
Thanks for the love Marlon! I appreciate you watching!
Jay Elect is top tier. So this was a fever dream for me.
I hadn’t even heard this, I’m ashamed because Jay Elect is amazing, love every word he ever said
I think listening to "Dimethyltryptamine" would put somewhat of a coherent fingerprint onto the listening experience of The Act 1 though they're not connected, it somewhat makes sense to me to finish it off with that...You should do a separate video for that track's reaction - we all like when some shit somewhat makes sense, right?:))
Wow, that's an interesting choice, looking forward to playing this.
This was a great choice. It's really nice to see reactions to stuff that's different from what every other channel does.
Would love too see some more Jay Electronica in the future.
What’s crazy is Jay is a registered NOI member and 95% of what he talks about is taught in the Mosque. He is spitting actual facts and wisdom lessons. Imagine The Honorable Elijah Muhammad bringing this information out in the 50’s??
the other 5% is erykah’s ass, blunts and cash
It was a lot to unpack here(especially not coming from an African-American background)….but yaw did a daggone good job!!!
You guys gotta check out immortal techniques dance with the devil!
Thats a crazy song! Id like to hear reaction to it too.
My new favourite channel love from London
My favorite MC of all time 🙏
Dude, thank you for this one the level of conscious thought between you and Dad are need today. Just thank you
50k downloads back then was viral !
Man from one Kai to another you’re taste is impeccable. My vote for your next choice is “Let the Sun Talk” by Mavi or “Some Rap Songs” by Earl Sweatshirt. Love your show, keep it going!
Both great projects! Thanks a lot Kai!
Loving these videos mate need more of them would also love to see your personal hip hop and rap playlists to see what you listen to some of the choices are great
LOVE that yall covered this, i showed it to a client (i teach hip hop) just the other day, no drums needed, just gorgeous...good enough to get Ms.Badu to FOUND a record label *just* to sign him!
This song changed my views on life
I can’t like this enough. Jay elec is a special artist and person. And you getting the chance to expose your pops to the experience of his music with an open mind is 🔥. Also him putting in the effort to interpret the music is too dope. Love from New Orleans
Props to pops for being down for this. And props to you for playing the extended cut of Eternal Sunshine spit by J Elect.
Dope review. Ima huge Elect fan. 1st time I heard him in like 09 i had this song on repeat for like 2 days. Still one of the most amazing pieces of art ever.
Jay Elec and MF Doom are my favorite rappers, with guys like Ghostface Killah Black Thought close on their bumper
One of my favorite songs from Jay!
This is great content, great choice of song. Jay Elec is one of the best to ever do it and has so many amazing songs
Jay Electronica, lord of the rings
Jay Electronica is my favorite artist in the last 24 years, he made me fall in love with hip hop again...
Your breakdown is interesting... As some one that has studied the nation of God's and earths I often wondered how his lyrics are received from someone outside that community..
Every line is coded and have a straight forward meaning...
You Should definitely do an exhibit a, b, and c breakdown.
VERY DOPE that someone did this reaction ths way. I would NEVER recommend this track to a reactor because of it's craziness. *head nod* for walking your dad through this & preparing (if that's possible) him at the beginning.
Yooo this was great 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You've described his career exactly. Lol I love him! ❤️
Bro this video changed my life.
Super dope choice. Never expected a reaction to this at all
Wow.. as a Jay fan.. I appreciate you sharing this with pops.. you guys are amazing.
Great choice, I love Jay Electronica, to say he keeps his fans hungry would be a huge understatement! I had tickets to see him here in the UK earlier this year but the gif was cancelled 😭
That’s such a shame 😞 why did the show get cancelled?
I've no idea, there was no announcement from him on social media or anything, just from the ticket vender. Hopefully we all go to see him one day. By the way I love your channel, you and your dad are a joy to watch.
@@frontroom jay has a track record for not showing up and cancelling his shows. That’s why they get canceled
Please show him one of the first mainstream rap songs: Rappers Delight or The Message by The Grandmaster Flash.
You gotta get your old man to listen to anything on Liquid swords by GZA. I would recommend Killah Hills 10304 but the whole album is a masterpiece and I'd recommend listening to it front to back. you need to slowly ease him into some MF DOOM as well, I can recommend Born like this and Operation Doomsday. fantastic albums.
Killah Priest “Heavy Mental” is pretty similar to eternal sunshine . No drums. I think it came out in 98 but You’re right Adrian GZA is 🔥 and the story telling on killah hills is amazing.
Yesss 💯
I think he’ll get mind blown once he hears The Gza
Beneath the surface also
The "chair is a chair" reference to Luther vandross - is a lyric from his song "A House is not a Home"...
This might be my favorite song ever so surprised somebody actually reacted to this song
It would be really interesting to make a reaction video with him, for Better in tune with the infinite or real magic, or even Run & hide w the Bullitts.
This guy ear for music is amazing
One of the best choices you made! Congrats
Jay Electronica is ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Just logged in youtube just to give you a thumbs up! Nice vid
Jay Elec reaction with dad? Subscribed. Better in Tune with the Infinite, Exhibit A/C and Letter to Falon would be great to see next.
Much love! More Jay Elec coming. Better in tune is one of my favourite songs of all time
This is probably my all time favorite so g
Okay bro I see you! Jay elec is one of the dopest!!
The Luther Vandross reference is about Luther’s song ‘A House is Not a Home’.
The vandrose line refers to the Luther Vandrose song A House is not a home”
You have amazing taste man
Wow!!!! I wasn’t expecting this one.
I see what you doing Kai lol. You slowly show your dad the hardcores stuff. You show him the hardcore gangsta stuff and then show him some softer stuff, i see you lol.
I’m glad this kid is even aware of this project. I remember when this came out there was nothing like it in hiphop.
Jay Electricity!…🔥🔥🔥
Pete Rock and Cl smooth - T.R.O.Y
Loved this one 📈📈📈📈
I was obsessed with Voodoo Man back in the day lol
Here's my song recommendations:
1. "Hip Hop Saved My Life" - Lupe Fiasco
2. "Welcome to Forever" - Logic
3. "Exhibit C" - Jay Electronica
4. "Through the Wire" - Kanye West
RZA might actually be the founder of looped instrumentals with no added drums. He most notably did it on Ghostface Killah's "All That I Got Is You"
He’s talking about the type of rappers the radio will play, not the ones who respect his abilities
The marshall mathers LP is an all time great. you gotta check that out. some songs might be too hardcore but it was so emotional and funny.
Wow never been this early! I recommend getting your dad to listen to DMX! Much love to you guys
He has
@@yungtwun He has a deeper catalogue worth looking into, peace
The Announcement, your dad would appreciate it.
