The Neverending Story is legit one of the most beautiful songs ever-like, nobody ever thinks of a rap record to be beautiful but that is exactly what some of these tracks are. Jay-Z and the “Inshallah” was the perfect end to the lyrics...I mean dang....

This is about as far as you can go from pure without leaving the category. This is essentially beat poetry set to an ambient track. Something you might hear from theatre students or at a coffee shop. Hip Hop at its purest would sound like Afrika Bambaataa.

Pure hip hop does not have a distinct sound, it is the way the art is communicated and conveyed which makes it pure. Afrika Bambaata is pure hip hop just as Public Enemy is. Wu Tang Clan is pure hip hop just as Mobb Deep is. I can go on forever. I think what you are referring to is the actual instrumental. Al sampled a song that has lounge elements, but that does not make it a lounge song or lounge music. This is hip hop.

Not a rap guy, but I really enjoyed sitting with this one. The instrumentation really reminded me of some of the Who's stuff (some not all) around the time of their Quadrophenia album.
