  • Mr Bleu is gone and Wyrking Byrd is taking its place for cherry season. I went with a friend to pick it up on June 1 and we flew it back along the Snake River. I've turned that 2 hours of footage into a series of shorter videos. This is the first part.

    About Me and the Helicopter
    - I have been flying for about 22 years. My nearly 4,000 hours of flight time is in Robinson R44, Robinson R22, and Bell 206L (Long Ranger) helicopters.
    - The helicopter in this video is a Robinson R44 Raven II.
    --
    About the Video
    - The video was recorded with two GoPro Hero 8 cameras. I used ambient audio from just one Hero 8 for the helicopter sound, dialed down by 10 decibels from normal volume so it wouldn't be annoying. I also had a Hero 7 connected to the helicopter's intercom system with an NFlightCam audio cable (amzn.to/31syLTm) to record audio from the radio and intercom system.
    - The "cockpit cam" front-facing camera was mounted with my current Instrument Cam set up, which you can learn about in this Behind-the-Scenes video: • Behind the Scenes: Coc... . It's based upon a MyPilotPro Helicopter Mount (mypilotpro.com/product/helico...) modified to get the height I need. The other camera was mounted inside the helicopter using MyPilotPro Spider Swivel GoPro Windshield Mounts (www.mypilotpro.com/product/my....
    - The video was edited on a iMac using Davinci Resolve 17 software. Learn more about it here: www.blackmagicdesign.com/prod...
    - The intro music is by Bob Levitus, famed "Dr. Mac." You can find him here: www.boblevitus.com/

    Enjoyed your trip down the Snake to the Columbia. Very familiar wth the area from Hanford south to and into OR. Also familiar with Wenatchee. I surveyed for the DOE back in the 1980s for an outfit based at Richland Airport. The Hanford 'Nuclear Area' as it was then called, was amid building 4 Nuclear Power Generation Stations. My job was unrelated, but to do a 'grid' of the out lying area for nuclear waste disposal. Saw some 20yrs later the results of my 'labor' while visiting the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. There was a 'kiosk' there that explained what became of the nuclear spent rods from nuclear submarines. Little did I know then! We would have to pick up 'dosimeters' on the way through the gate and wear them on our collar. End of the day, we turned them in to determine how much if any, nuclear radiation (Rads) we had been exposed to during our day there. This job lasted some time.. Probably a couple of months anyway. At that time, the union laborers who were building the nuclear power generation plants had gone on strike, some 18 months before I got there. I was still in WA when the bonds to pay for the generation plants 'failed'. Everybody's power bill jumped 35% over night. I do enjoy your flights and 'adventures' with your Robinson 44! I fly one on my FSX flight simulator from time to time. Thanks for the effort to post your flights!

    Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Just an FYI: When you crossed the high power line towers from the Snake to the Columbia you entered class Detla airspace. Class Detla requires two-way radio communication to enter. To be in class Golf you would have needed to fly two miles to your left (south over Kennewick) and on the path you were on thru Pasco you needed to be over the river closest to Richland to be clear of class Delta. Also for Hanford airspace you could stay over the Eastside of the river and be clear. Plus it's a request not law to fly at 1800msl. I fly this area on a regular basises and have communicated with Hanford patrol and Bonneville Power Administration regularly and unless you land, stop, or fly direct over buildings your good to go at a safe altitude. The park on the left before Ice Harbor Dam is Charbonneau Park and is a great little park. The train Bridge in Pasco is indeed a draw bridge, the Cable bridge and Blue bridge are not but have a clearance of 48ft for large boat traffic. Again thanks for sharing your experiences and videos. Have a great 4th of July

    • @FlyingMAir
      @FlyingMAir  Před 2 lety +2

      I did make radio contact. I requested clearance through the airspace long before I reached it and got it. Did you not hear that?🤔

    • @stevenkinne9651
      @stevenkinne9651 Před 2 lety +2

      @@FlyingMAir I did hear it. I was just letting you know where the boundaries were as you seemed unfamiliar with the area. I was just trying to help out. I apologize if it came across differently. Again thanks for sharing your adventures. Fly safe.

    • @FlyingMAir
      @FlyingMAir  Před 2 lety +2

      I had a feeling that's what you were doing and you're right -- I'm not very familiar with the area. I always try to call into class Delta space 6 to 10 miles out, mostly to get it over with. I guess my response was triggered, in part, by someone else's comment about my flight planning. I was wondering whether my editing of the N-number in my call made the call not sound like a proper call.🤷🏻‍♀️

    Could the "cattle tracks on the hills" (9:42) be "terracettes"? It seems their cause is one of Earth's little mysteries. Wikipedia lists some theories: "animal trampling, vegetation and regolith behaviour, soil creep and solifluction including gelifluction." Whew! That's a sentence that belongs in Nick Zentner's suggestion box.

    • @FlyingMAir
      @FlyingMAir  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m not familiar with that word, but I know that tracks like this are caused by cattle or wildlife. Having flown over them many times, often in open range land, often, they turn into trails that lead to fences or radiate from water sources.
